PearPC emulates a PowerPC architecture so that's why it would be slow. VMware should be faster because it should be able to use your Athlon 64 directly.
well, due to the lack of a 64-bit network driver, i run mac os 9 with sheepshaver inside a windows 2000 virtual machine running in vmware on a windows 7 64bit host
pearpc is just like boot camp, its an emulator. if he was trying to use os x instead of vista he would have to build a non allocated partition and and boot from an osx disk, and even then he would still have vista, he would just have a choice wich is still like boot camp.
If I'm reading correctly, you're saying that Boot Camp is an emulator? that's 100% incorrect if it is what you're trying to say. You actually run the operating system alone, instead of inside OS X. That's all I have to say further.
im not saying that boot camp is an emulator ,im sayin that it is the same basic idea; both boot camp and ppc allow you to run a foriegn operating system.
About boot camp running vista alone... wouldnt it then be the same if i created a partition on my HD and simply installed osx as i have done in the past. This allows me the choice, at startup, to run osx or xp; xp and osx never meet.
i agree with the expensive thing but i feel special i get like a 25% discount from apple because my business has a contract on something with them so ya
i once had mac installed in vmware workstation and after 2 days of searching o found a download of vmware tools for OSx86 Mac, and it worked fast just like the pc its self, but then i reinstalled and forgot to save the vmware tools lol
another case where tiger > leopard is NetInfo manager, the reason they took it out was because it rarely did what it was told, even by apple themselves, but that was actually a good thing for tiger security because it was required to get by for a lot of hacks on tiger, with leopard someone could break in the same way in 1 line of code since there's no NetInfo manager to bypass.
um i have a problem with pearpc. i have the iso for the mac os x tiger disc 1, but i don't have the other three, and when i boot it up in pearpc after i install tiger and it asks me to restart. it takes me back to the first part of installation, what happend?
cause that's a modified version of OS X, emulated is not, and yes i know about the vanilla kernel for a retail OS X boot but i use AMD so i'm excluded from that, i need a modified kernel for it to work. =/
I honestly love the Mac OSX.My issue being in college that I can't afford the prices. Ill use VMWARE to run OSX until I can buy one. I own a copy of Tiger and can't wait till I can get a newer mac. I only own a PC now and its really nice but here's advice to apple and thats LOWER your prices!!!
amen to that... BTW nadams, I am also in college and have become a victim of apple's high pricing. =( I've wanted a macbook pro forever but, well you know the rest...
Thats pretty cool! I always like emulating... stuff.
But seriously, when you click the desktop and drag, that grey thing should move just like the XP equivalent does. I mean that looks sooooooooooo slow. If you want to give OSX a go you need to dual boot without vista running in the background. Kill your VISTA partition and dual boot OSX86 with XP for teh games

i have a job thank you very much, but that doesn't mean i'm going to waste my money on a computer i don't need, not singling out Macs though, i wouldn't buy a Dell or HP computer either.

Your RAM and graphics card (only because of VRAM, my onboard has the same specs otherwise) are really the only things where you're hardware is noticeably better than mine, but I could catch up pretty easily, especially since my motherboard supports Phenom(quad core) and up to 32GB RAM, oh and my hard drive is better. I have intel core2quad 2,4 ghz, 2 gigs of ram and radeon x1950 pro graphics, and i gave the pearpc 1 gig ram, and with this config everything is soo fine. The system profiler says that i have 1,5 ghz ppc g3 processor. I'm using it for some applications that requires a mac. For example the pwnage tool. So It's really cool now for me. The only problem is.. the right mouse click is not enabled. I had the 4x cd version tiger, and i installed it with a pached pear, that has enabled ide1_ controllers.
I'm on an imac right now, but i'd like to get mac osx.4 to run on a laptop that i have. i believe the laptop is running either windows 2000 or xp. if you could pm me and tell me how, that'd be great. thanks!
That was my old hardware, i got it for about $200 3 years ago, my new hardware is: Athlon 64x2 4600+ (2.6GHz dual core, motherboard supports Phenom quad core) 2GB RAM (DDR2, motherboard supports up to 32GB), onboard Radeon HD 3200 (256MB VRAM, 4.0 pixel/vertex shaders), and a 320GB SATA 7200 RPM HDD. I also got it all for around $250.
every body likes mac cuz there cool and i agree its just macs are a bunch of money but if they were as much as pc's every body in the world would get 1 and hay macs dont get viruse's so who needs to pay like 60 bucks on viruse protection
Macs are pretty and have a lot of cool features, but I still prefer PCs, I agree that if Apple decreased the price on their computers that their sales would skyrocket, but I and many others would still stick to our preference, Macs can and do get viruses, they're just not as widespread as PC viruses, and all of my anti-malware(virus, spyware etc) software was free, and I've never had a single malware problem on my own machines ever.
Also I got my computer for around $300 from parts, and it's more powerful than the new $1,799 iMac (not quite as powerful as the $2,199 one yet), it might not be as pretty but I can upgrade it.
Not true, it is much harder for a Mac to get a serious threatening virus, but it's still possible, and even Macs get loads of spyware and adware just like everyone else, and even minor viruses.
I see. Just the fact that "it is much harder for a Mac to get a serious threatening", I feel safer using my mac than my PC. Last time I checked, there was no known virus reported for Mac. (BTW I have antivirus software on my PC but not on my mac) Anyway, thanx for ur input.
What I mean by that is, most pornographic websites will have viruses specifically made for Windows, why? Because more people have Windows than OS X and they want to infect as many people as possible, if you stay away from those and illegal activity (downloading music, movies etc) then you shouldn't have anything to worry about, like I said, I myself have never had a single malware problem on any of my PCs ever. =)
My imac has 160 mb of ram and it is fast it has a 333 megahertz processore and today i have finally upgraded to 10.2.8. For all those mac users out there that have an imac g3 1st generation i would not upgrade over 10.3.7 and my hard drive is only 6 gigibytes :]
I got it running perfectly once in increased the RAM, and since it was a PowerPC Mac the Intel version of Tiger wouldn't work, next up is Leopard (10.5). =)
Hate Mac OS in general before. After installing it on PC, it is a great opportunity for those who wants to learn MAC in general. Get OS Tiger, its pretty stable.
What makes you think it was a waste of time? I've learned a LOT because of this project, it's opened up a lot of opportunities for me, and I had a good time while doing it.
Great point, same here. It's definitely an experience. I think the funnest part is figuring it out. It took me forever to get 10.5.2 running on my inspiron 1521. I wanted to prove to my roommate who is a mac enthusiast that it was possible and he hates it, because it's like I'm "sneaking into his territory."
I know what you mean, another thing is, before, the only reason I could give for preferring PCs was that I had never really used a Mac before, but since this project I know more about OS X and Macs in general then most lifetime Mac users and can provide valid and reasonable answers as to why I prefer PCs, which really helps determine who's reasonable and who's just a fanboy.
I haven't come across a singe application that I couldn't run on Vista, in fact I now run Vista on every computer in my house along with Linux (Ubuntu, Sabayon) every now and then.
Yeah, it can use a lot of resources but it can also use very few depending on how it's configured, I've been able to get it running beautifully on 7 year old machines.

Watch my "How to set up internet on PearPC" video, not the XP/Wireless one, it clearly shows OS X running fairly close to native speed, maybe not compared to an Intel Mac, but to the PowerPC G3/G4 it's emulating, it's quite close.
It's not meant to be a Mac replacement, it's for evaluation purposes mainly, for people who have never used OS X before and want to see what it's like.
Hi, can you help me? it worked for me running tiger on vista but couple sec later or sometimes minutes my mouse wil freeze down and can't do anything with my mouse, it just stand stil! please help me
To be fair, that's with G3 emulation and 256MB Virtual RAM, it boots in about 25 seconds now that I've upped all of that, also regarding that statistic, they are speaking of a native install of Windows, not emulation, and that doesn't include custom built PCs, which are far more affordable, easier and cheaper to upgrade, and can have specs far above any Mac on the market.
All of the Mac kexts are included, the problem is not all of the hardware works out of the box, internet is possible as is video, but sound isn't possible for most people.
Did updating screw yours up? I updated tiger on my pc and then the screen like froze so i rebooted and i got an error. Do you know what happened/If you can update?
Updating worked fine for me, open your config file and set machargs to -v for a verbose boot, there will probably be a kernel panic, tell me what it says on the few lines before that.
Being that newer versions of Mac OS X (Leopard, Tiger, so on...) are being made to run on Intel processors, would that mean that you could some how run Mac OS X on x86 emulators like QEMU which emulates Intel processors?
Ironic your name is TheTechSupportGeek2 but you say your a n00b, anyway, it is possible to do what you suggested, but not with a retail version of OS X, the reason is simply put, BIOS, PCs and all PC emulators and virtual machines use BIOS while Macs use EFI with OpenFirmware (some PCs have a UEFI setting but it's not the same), there is however, a hacked version of OS X called OSX86 that will work in any PC VM and can even be installed natively to a PC, but it's illegal...
It is running really quite slow. I suggest getting a better system. I suppose you have by now? How's it running?
I've just installed Panther myself, also on Vista Ultimate. I have a more powerful system than this, but I must admit I'm not overly impressed with the speed. I'm thinking about installing Tiger as I've heard it runs faster on PearPC, but I'm also thinking what's the point?
128mb RAM? According to Wikipedia, Tiger isn't supposed to run on anything less than 256mb RAM. I got kernel panics on my iMac G3 before I upgraded the RAM so how did you get that working?
Umm But ill need someone to tell me about that Program ... or the way cuz it seems Very Hard To Do .. i read a lot about this and have a GOOD pc but i need the guide in this
I need a HINT about HOW did you do that .. i spend all my time trying to do that in a good way but i didnt get anything YET and lil PUSH will help me .. thanx anyway
Try running PearPC in full screen at your native resolution, it should disable Aero temporarily that way and give you more processing power for MacOS.
you are emulating mac os while with my mac i am running the real windows os natively so that is the same as running VMWARE or Parellells so what if you can emulate back in system 8 we were able to emulate win 98 se now we can run the real thing and not miss out on the performance lags you are getting emulating mac os . emulating sucks the real deal is way better. i will give you that it can be done and i applaude your efferts but nothing beats the real thing nothing period.
you can try safely over clocking CPU by 2 or 3% test for stability and it should run faster thats if you built your own pc OEM pcs are locked out of that function
Is this a netbook you are running this on :O

No, it isn't Fake. Its real. I have it in my Computer too with Mac OS X 10.1, 10.2 ans 10.3 ans it Works. It emulates a PowerPC G3 or G4.
So shut up and don't say it's Fake. Try it first :)

I heard that there is no virus for mac.
habs9293 3 years ago
Not true, it is much harder for a Mac to get a serious threatening virus, but it's still possible, and even Macs get loads of spyware and adware just like everyone else, and even minor viruses.
xcalibur839 3 years ago
I see. Just the fact that "it is much harder for a Mac to get a serious threatening", I feel safer using my mac than my PC. Last time I checked, there was no known virus reported for Mac. (BTW I have antivirus software on my PC but not on my mac) Anyway, thanx for ur input.
habs9293 3 years ago
What I mean by that is, most pornographic websites will have viruses specifically made for Windows, why? Because more people have Windows than OS X and they want to infect as many people as possible, if you stay away from those and illegal activity (downloading music, movies etc) then you shouldn't have anything to worry about, like I said, I myself have never had a single malware problem on any of my PCs ever. =)

My imac has 160 mb of ram and it is fast it has a 333 megahertz processore and today i have finally upgraded to 10.2.8. For all those mac users out there that have an imac g3 1st generation i would not upgrade over 10.3.7 and my hard drive is only 6 gigibytes :]
bubzie5 3 years ago
If you really wanted it to go faster use either Panther (10.3) or Tiger for Intel (10.4).
TetrisMaster512 3 years ago
I got it running perfectly once in increased the RAM, and since it was a PowerPC Mac the Intel version of Tiger wouldn't work, next up is Leopard (10.5). =)

Tell me how did u get everything mac os x ??
drunkenfish360 3 years ago
Hate Mac OS in general before. After installing it on PC, it is a great opportunity for those who wants to learn MAC in general. Get OS Tiger, its pretty stable.
shinyware 3 years ago
Its so slow because you gave it 128 MB RAM! Give it at least 256 MB1
Btroisi13 3 years ago
Yeah, I upped it to 1GB, it's much faster now. =)
xcalibur839 3 years ago
why would u waste your time with this im just curious
indyfindy 3 years ago
What makes you think it was a waste of time? I've learned a LOT because of this project, it's opened up a lot of opportunities for me, and I had a good time while doing it.
xcalibur839 3 years ago
hey!! where did you get tiger!!!..i tried to get it but i still cant do it!!..tell me!..please..and how to do thaat
putooo91 3 years ago
Great point, same here. It's definitely an experience. I think the funnest part is figuring it out. It took me forever to get 10.5.2 running on my inspiron 1521. I wanted to prove to my roommate who is a mac enthusiast that it was possible and he hates it, because it's like I'm "sneaking into his territory."
beatamametus 3 years ago
I know what you mean, another thing is, before, the only reason I could give for preferring PCs was that I had never really used a Mac before, but since this project I know more about OS X and Macs in general then most lifetime Mac users and can provide valid and reasonable answers as to why I prefer PCs, which really helps determine who's reasonable and who's just a fanboy.
xcalibur839 3 years ago
dude can you msg me telling me how to do this...?
ericsballin255 3 years ago
I almost did that, but I accidentally bought the intel version of Mac OS X so it didn't work.

I haven't come across a singe application that I couldn't run on Vista, in fact I now run Vista on every computer in my house along with Linux (Ubuntu, Sabayon) every now and then.
Yeah, it can use a lot of resources but it can also use very few depending on how it's configured, I've been able to get it running beautifully on 7 year old machines.

what a fucking poser.. if you want a PC own a pc ... go buy a mac and grow up
atticusheights 4 years ago
I'm confused about what you just said, I do own a PC, and how would buying a Mac equal growing up? Also, in what way am I a poser?
xcalibur839 4 years ago
Watch my "How to set up internet on PearPC" video, not the XP/Wireless one, it clearly shows OS X running fairly close to native speed, maybe not compared to an Intel Mac, but to the PowerPC G3/G4 it's emulating, it's quite close.
xcalibur839 4 years ago
It's not meant to be a Mac replacement, it's for evaluation purposes mainly, for people who have never used OS X before and want to see what it's like.
Also it's not slow with a little tweaking. ;)

Hell yeah, I've just joined the Army and with my sign on bonus of $33.000, I'm gonna buy me a macbook!!!! Fuck windows.

it takes over 90 seconds to boot??(1:19 - 2:52) gay.
on the contrary...
The fastest Windows-running platform is a Mac (Wall Street Journal)
taiji8 4 years ago
To be fair, that's with G3 emulation and 256MB Virtual RAM, it boots in about 25 seconds now that I've upped all of that, also regarding that statistic, they are speaking of a native install of Windows, not emulation, and that doesn't include custom built PCs, which are far more affordable, easier and cheaper to upgrade, and can have specs far above any Mac on the market.
xcalibur839 4 years ago
does it include the mac drivers for internet, sound, video, ect.?
GamingGuyXD 4 years ago
All of the Mac kexts are included, the problem is not all of the hardware works out of the box, internet is possible as is video, but sound isn't possible for most people.
xcalibur839 4 years ago
Did updating screw yours up? I updated tiger on my pc and then the screen like froze so i rebooted and i got an error. Do you know what happened/If you can update?
Niadcs 4 years ago
Updating worked fine for me, open your config file and set machargs to -v for a verbose boot, there will probably be a kernel panic, tell me what it says on the few lines before that.

Just a question from a total n00b...
Being that newer versions of Mac OS X (Leopard, Tiger, so on...) are being made to run on Intel processors, would that mean that you could some how run Mac OS X on x86 emulators like QEMU which emulates Intel processors?
TheTechSupportGeek2 4 years ago
Ironic your name is TheTechSupportGeek2 but you say your a n00b, anyway, it is possible to do what you suggested, but not with a retail version of OS X, the reason is simply put, BIOS, PCs and all PC emulators and virtual machines use BIOS while Macs use EFI with OpenFirmware (some PCs have a UEFI setting but it's not the same), there is however, a hacked version of OS X called OSX86 that will work in any PC VM and can even be installed natively to a PC, but it's illegal...
xcalibur839 4 years ago
It is running really quite slow. I suggest getting a better system. I suppose you have by now? How's it running?
I've just installed Panther myself, also on Vista Ultimate. I have a more powerful system than this, but I must admit I'm not overly impressed with the speed. I'm thinking about installing Tiger as I've heard it runs faster on PearPC, but I'm also thinking what's the point?
simargl 4 years ago
Yes it runs quite well now, check my "how to install internet on PearPC" for more on that, it's the first one, not the one on XP.
xcalibur839 4 years ago
128mb RAM? According to Wikipedia, Tiger isn't supposed to run on anything less than 256mb RAM. I got kernel panics on my iMac G3 before I upgraded the RAM so how did you get that working?
ilikelmo25 4 years ago
I actually installed it on a faster setting and saved the virtual hard disk and ran it on a slower virtual machine (PearPC).

Oh, and isn't 128MB a bit too low for Tiger?
bureX 4 years ago
Try running PearPC in full screen at your native resolution, it should disable Aero temporarily that way and give you more processing power for MacOS.
bureX 4 years ago
would it work on virtual pc?
geezalowey 4 years ago
you are emulating mac os while with my mac i am running the real windows os natively so that is the same as running VMWARE or Parellells so what if you can emulate back in system 8 we were able to emulate win 98 se now we can run the real thing and not miss out on the performance lags you are getting emulating mac os . emulating sucks the real deal is way better. i will give you that it can be done and i applaude your efferts but nothing beats the real thing nothing period.

you said to ankit 3000:
Sure, I'll help you in a PM, chances are you'll have to configure it manually like I did, without the PearPC control panel.
please PM me too!
i have 2 computers, one with vista and one with XP. on xp it works but on vista not!
please pm me the same pm as you did to ankit3000!

you can try safely over clocking CPU by 2 or 3% test for stability and it should run faster thats if you built your own pc OEM pcs are locked out of that function
