There is just something so unnerving seeing a M$ product on the XO...a machine that was all open source until 'The World's Greatest Philanthropist' (uncle Bill) shoehorned his £3 per license XP on them. And that only after him and Intel trashing the machine and trying to kill it.

Now if it was an unlimited number of OEM XO only Windows 98 licenses at a cost of £0 per XO, that I could just *possibly* stomach.

the sugar system is okay for young children, but then, they need something else. they could enhance their system, install some extra sw via yum, they could install debian or ubuntu. but this is cool: onther choice. enabling windows on that machine doesn't destroy the free sofware vision! because: they deliver it only with dual boot to the dev. countries. so: pretty cool! more choice, more freedom!

As much as I hate to use an internet meme, Microsoft is Fail. Granted, Sugar has a ways to go, but don't replace it with Microsoft.

We participated in the Give One Get One. We love the hardware, but the interface is very difficult for those of use used to Windows. I'm very interested in XP on the XO. I hope they make it available to those of us who goint in on G1G1.

Again, I love the hardware. It'd be great if someone licensed the design, made it wider for a fuller sized keyboard (i.e. for grown up hands) and sent the proceeds to OLPC.

Sugar ui isn't too great but why not make a modified lightweight linux distro with some nice custom interface that's easy to use? That will give them a nice sandbox to play in without having them worry about security too much.

And there is the problem of using up the only sd slot with windows and having only 1GB internal flash remaining for data. It's just too cumbersome to make windows appealing on the xo.

Well I love and use windows every day, but really whats the point in this?

Sure it's nice to be able to use win xp and office on such low end hardware but remember that this is a device for kids. It will get pretty slow when you add obligatory antivirus and antispyware app and without it it will probably end up with ten crapware toolbars in ie and with tons of malware. Yes you can make win xp reasonably secure but it will get too complicated for young kids to cope.

Highly unlikely. I don't see Microsoft developing a new bios or drivers for the XO. The camera light is a firmware security feature, the camera light turns on when the camera is in use and cannot be disbaled (like on apple imacs). I have no doubt that Windows runs on the XO, but this video is not it.

My family participated in the Buy one give one program in December. The main user of our OLPC is our 12 year old daughter. (We're working on getting flash installed so she can play youtube - but that's another story.)

I welcome Windows XP on the OLPC. Right now the SD slot isn't very useful. The current "Sugar" interface is definitely not the greatest thing since sliced bread.

It would be nice to upgrade my old Windows ME computer with XP on a bootable USB drive.
