i dream of becoming a 747 pilot when i get older, but im worried. i have a couple questions. how long are you usually away from home? were you able to start your own family?
Being an A&P Technician for 40 years (retired...or just tired), I can tell you that the 747 is a very easy aircraft to fly and maintain. SuredT is an excellent pilot as are all of KLM's flight crews. Have worked with many of them in the past and can assure everyone that when he says something, it is the gospel truth. Their aircraft are maintained and flown by professionals.
I didn't even know you get a 747 that smooth!!! I heard '10' from the GPWS and waited for the thud, but it didn't come. The only thing I heard was the spoilers deploy. B-E-A-utiful landing!
@footballfreak1904 The landing lights are on. It's just difficult to see them through the camera. But to the men/women up front they'll be lighting up the runway quite nicely.
@1955porsche both, it depends on conditions some aircraft can land in almost zero visibilty with autoland, but otherwise usually the last 100-300ft are manual if the conditions give way.
Great landing, and soooooooooooooooo smooth one, I like when you start to say (in all your videos), seventyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, sixtyyyyyyyyyy (for a whiiile) ............. ground speed, fiftyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy ............. ground speed :D, very coool, Thanks for sharing, waiting more videos from You Captain ;)
@syafiqpilot once you land and slow to a reasonable taxi speed the tower if it is a controlled airport will tell you to turn next taxi way or something of the like. Once you turn they will tell you to contact ground on whatever freq. you will get clearance to parking or gate or whatever and they give directions like "via taxiway alpha and turn on bravo" thats why when you're on a plane you see signs on taxiways with numbers and letters. its for navigating the airport.
Well if you look at an aerial snapshot of an airport you can see how most taxiways are linked together in some kind of way so you have some redundancy if you miss a turn or something there is ususally another taxiway that will get you where you need to go.
I played Fsx for about a year but then got fs2004 and logged about 400 hours on that because I was having problems with Fsx. Once I figured out all the problems one day someone restored our computer to the day before i installed it so blehh! But I currently play fs2004 bcuz i have the most addons for it. I hope this helped.
@syafiqpilot Then the controller must find out how to get the plane safely to where it is suppose to be. Mostly it can just take an alternative route.
yes all commercial flights are IFR but not always is the landing using the ILS. However, you're right--even visual approaches are IFR flights but the controllers give vectors to final.
That's not true. I mostly fly IFR but VFR is allowed. I fly at the B737NG for KLM. A friend of my flies sometimes from TNCM to TNCC VFR in the B744 KLM.
Hay, I'll do this comment in English so everybody will understand. I'm pilot on KLM B737NG and we are not allowed to land on certain runways at each time. You can look on a Jeppesen chart of the airfield EHAM/AMS for the times.
Threshold lights are always green. There for you have the approach lights. On Schiphol it's called HIALS. In UK it's mostly Calvert-2. The red lights are the lights that says there is a 'Displayed Threshold' what means you're not allowed to land on the beginning of the runway. You have to pas the Green lights. Then you'll have the touchdown lights. That are the white ligths between the Centerline and the Runway Edge Lines
Because the 747 cockpit is a lot higher than other aircraft its usual for the papi to show 3 whites or even 4 closer to touchdown. Its still the right altitude, just a higher viewpoint.
Reminds me of my landing there last year!!! Night landings in Amsterdam are so beautiful, words can't describe. Those yellow boxes that u saw out of the windows are glass houses for crops. they're all over the place which makes it that much more magical. Nice landing btw. Nicely done! :D
I went to New York in Januray this year, and that view, flying in parallel to Manhattan landing at Newark was the most beatiful sight! It was at night!
36C at Schiphol is 3300m long and of those a maximum of 2850m is available for landing. From the video I think this flight touches down just after taxiway W7 (almost 1000m from threshold) and vacates at W3, which means its ground run is only around 1300m.
Fantastic Videos! I'm an avid Flight Sim fan and a 747 nutter!
Flying 747's as a day job eh? Someones gotta do it ;)
Minimums is the decision height where the Flight Crew decide wether to go for a landing or a go around if a landing cannot be committed to for any reason, This is as seen on the approach charts for the airport arrival! and manually entered.
I belive its the point where the pilot needs to have visual contact with the runway, if not, he/she needs to abort the landing..I also think that if hes lading by instruments, thats the time when the autopilot automatically turns off, leaving the pilot to decide whether to land or not.
The Autopilot doesn't turn off automatically. On and ILS, the pilot can select the Approach hold which will follow the glideslope and localizer. Should the pilot decide to land by hand, once he has the runway visual, (or around 5 miles) he/she can disengage the AP and land. "Minimums" is the Decision Height for the approach that is selected (Usually 200AGL). At Minimums, the pilot will announce "Landing". If the runway is not insight, he will announce "Going Missed" (Approach). Hope this helps.
haha met, you should try landing 18R I think it is and then taxi to something like Gate: Foxtrot 8. Now that takes about 30mins itself. The taxiway goes through woodland. EHAM is huge.

If the runway is not insight, he will announce "Going Missed" (Approach). Hope this helps.
