  • So ? Everybody is telling me that I upload a fake version of this song , and apparently it's a version you made !

I don't know if I should be upset or happy !!!

  • Its a pitty, this song never produced finally and never released, but I think it was Georges :No!

  • did you know that this song was bout paul

  • Ok, until they added that weird voice .... who's that guy?

  • and now and then, I miss you. Good job on this mate!

  • this my favourite version of them all & close as we'll ever get to the real thing, well done you guys!!!!!!!!

  • Fucking love Jeff Lynne.

  • In my opinion you should re-post it using the cleaned-up version that you can find now

  • Are you Beatles impersonators? Your George and Paul sound very good

  • Very nice but tone WAY BACK on the phaser

  • So that is the fucking sound of studio what George martin could not get?

  • Donde o como me puedo descargar sólo la canción ... hace tiempo que quiero hacerlo pero no sé como .. HELP

  • Well done.

  • Sorry, but the vocal effects make this unlistenable. This just sounds bad.

  • Could you remove that vocal effect ?just add echo noyt flanger

  • Good work man. Thanks.

  • This is fantastic!!

  • You sure can hear the ELO in this song!

  • AMIGO, SOS UN GENIO!!! Espectacular trabajo. Es más, me pregunto si me podés pasar la letra completa de la canción, incluyendo el coro que suena más al principio. Gracias

  • How do people find these unreleased songs?

  • Hi, I like your instrumentation and backing vocals best of all versions, but John's lead vocal is processed a little too much perhaps? If you could insert a clearer Lennon vocal, you would have it nailed, because you understand the sympathetic arrangement style. Cheers

  • nicest version of this, apart from whatever happened 2 johns vocal sound on it

  • Fabulous. I wish Paul, George & Ringo would've done this One for Anthology 3 !

  • You, yes you Gaius476 are a genius for bringing them to life like this. You truly deserve the title of fifth beatles!

  • @residentevlidead Thanks a lot pal, I recorded this (and other beatles stuff) for people like you to enjoy. Cheers from Argentina!

  • Excelente version, saludos desde Venezuela para el pais mas beatlemaniaco de latinoamerica.. Argentina

  • this may have been the best video ive ever seen.

  • excellent my friends, son muy buenos sigan asi

  • This is really the best version I've ever heard! Awesome job!

  • Paul has said he wants to finish it.

  • For me this is the best version. Fuckin haunting

  • You are jeff lynne my friend. Incredible!

  • yet another beatles hit!

  • It would be perfect if John's voice is clean, polished and louder without any effects at all... averything else is perfect!!!

  • Your added vocals that you dropped in to finish the lyrics, were they intended to sound like George because they sound more like then John or Paul?

  • @HarveyBacktheBeatles I have to disagree, I think the vocal parts sound pretty damn close to George, and much more like George then John or Paul " If You Have to Go " dead on like George.

  • very good, love it actually=D

  • John never died? Are you crazy! He LIVES on in our beating HEARTS! LENNON FOREVER!

  • Really nice job! looks like them!!! :P

  • I've got a strange feeling

  • that would be cool if they make an album with paul playing guitar on some songs and have eric clapton come and play

  • I don't really see how they couldn't finish this song. Just mainly because of a few missing lyrics. They have written alot of songs so what's the matter with that, huh? Oh and the fact that the demo isn't very good quality.

  • Awesome! Even the vocal you added sounds similar to Paul McCartney. Perfect Beatles style. Thx for uploading.

  • well done!

Why don't you do an immaginary 1970 album reinterpretating the tunes from their solo album in a beatles way, when I listen to plastic ono band, mc cartney and all things must pass, always I think that Paul's bass would be great in some harrison's and lennon's tune, (ringo played in most of the tracks in harrison's album and in all tracks in plastic ono band)

  • I think the underwater vox work "swimmingly" on this particular song! It makes me think of Radiohead or something like that. I like it as much this way as I love the mono Lucy in the Sky -- I could barely stand listening to either one with "regular" vocals! -- Dr S

  • Very nice job congratulations lads

  • Buen trabajo Octavio y Max.... Felicitaciones un Sonido muy "Beatle"

  • I really got to get me a Rickenbacker!

  • This is actually my third comment, for those keeping score.

I personally believe this sounds the most like a Beatles song at the instrumental break 2:42 - 3:09.

BTW, I believe the reason they made John's voice sound underwater had to do with the limitations of the recording the remaining Beatles had during the making of Anthology 3. It's a possible solution to the problem they could have used. If you want to hear the lyrics, look up John's demo of this.

  • Very good with your personal overdubs. Just like your work on Grow Old With Me. I personally don't really like the distortion of John Lennon's voice but I understsnd what the others are saying.

  • the best for ever

  • this is awesome.

  • I like the instruments used in this song; especially the slide guitar at 2:43.

  • Yeah it's like John is speaking to all of us from the grave.

  • the beatles rock 4 ever

  • 0:47 yoko looks like a man! =P

  • I think it's the most respectfully and careful finished version I ever heard, and the nearest to the real actual Beatle sound....

I really feel the love you put in it.

I like your beautiful job in every album that you recorded, especially in "The Virtual Beatles - With a little help", and I really hope that "Now and then" by the Beatles will be out soon!

  • I heard that Paul has actually finished the song and just needs permission from Ringo, Yoko Ono, and Olivia Harrison. I of course don't know what the actual finished song sounds like; but I'm sure it's gonna be awesome!

  • @splintercell2002

I'm sure ol' Ringo's on board. He did the drum parts not that long ago.

  • Did you phase and add echo/delay to the original vocals? That wasn't needed man, I just heard Paul Newell's take on it and the vocals sound really clear.

I'd like this arrangement and the processing Paul did on John's vocal to come together.

  • youre way off

  • This is my favorite versions of the ones out there. My only complaint is the vocals that sound like they're under water. If they were clear, It be perfect. Btw, you sound just like George. i got shivers on the first lines you sang, cuz I thought it was him. And glad to see you filled in some of the lyrics.

  • well done, 5 stars

  • lennon's voice is very distorted (echoed), so i think this version is a fail in the editing... wonder why you would do this.. the accompaniment is decent, which is your part.

  • Sounds just like a Beatles song. If only it was recorded for the Anthology.

  • Actually, no offense meant, but it really sounds more like ELO. I mean, totally accurate because it's supposed to be produced by Jeff Lynne, but it still sounds like a band trying to be The Beatles (which, let's face it, was the essence of ELO).

Still, my favorite fan version of this song.

  • i got stucked to this song...and i must say that you guys did a pretty good job... a beatle touch, no doubt

  • Does anyone know what song John is playing on the piano at 2:51?

  • GREAT! REALLY!

  • I like what you did with drums, bass and guitar, and backing vocals, but John's vocals don't sound good. I understand there are a lot of clicks in the original demo, but it sounds better on the original take.

  • Then best version i've heard. i'm certain this is how the beatles would've done it back then.

  • asome

  • Hola chicos, felicitaciones por ésta versión.Hace poco(creo) han colgado en you tube "NOW AND THEN"(cleaned up version) en la que se oye mucho mas clara y limpia la voz de John con su piano;podrían usar ésta versión para mejorar la que hicieron ustedes 1ero,si es que ya no lo hicieron.

  • Brilliant.

  • very good

  • This is great. This song gives me goosebumps. Excellent job. Love the chord changes in this song.

  • well done and you should be proud or something because what you have done is to let the world have an earful of what could have been and it sounds right. thank you and you and u..and me

  • Good job!

  • i don't know guys but... This song could be probable released on 09/09/09

    Remaster track

  • Paul and Ringo really should finish this song. In fact, they should finish all those other songs on that virtual Beatles album. If that's even possible for them. I believe they could do it.

  • very good!!!

where I can get the song in mp3??

  • You put a nice touch on this song, I love John... :(

  • as we in America say..."wow"!

thank you for this wonderful gift...

    Shine on,

    Joe.

  • I wish Paul and Ringo would finish this song. Imagine a new Beatles song.

  • great song ..such a pity the original demo quality is so poor that a releasable quality isn't possible, but you guys have done a very pro job on doing it in the spirit of 1990's Beatles...I am a huge Beatle fan from Wallasey which is just across the river (Mersey) from Liverpool...and proud to live so near to the home of the 3 geniuses (and a very ungrateful drummer) ...I've met Peter Best and he is one fabulous modest unassuming man I've ever met ...god bless John & George

  • The Beatles are liverpoolish.

  • Wow! I was expecting to hate it, but it's fantastic! It's a great contribution to Lennon fans.

  • This is a great piece of music. Keep up the wonderful work, it sounds wonderful. Maybe you guys could finish Carnival of Light. Then we'd have another great lost Beatles-track to listen to. Good job!

  • Keep it up. Great Work!

  • I love it, it is good to hear john, even though its a demo. The people who did this did a great job trying to figure out what the Beatles would sound like today.

  • Quite an interesting take on Now and Then..

  • You dis a great Job...it really sound like a Beatles song....

The 3 Beatles should had been work on this song instead of Real Love....much more better song.....

  • I loved it ....good job

  • Nice job!!!

  • Some bits are not on time

but its really hard to do im sure

so this is really.... FREAKIN AWESOME !!!

  • FREAKIN AWESOME

  • Nice. good work.

  • ...if i'm not mistaken, George got 'enough' of Sir Paul and walked out before finishing the track...

  • Is that true? like 1969 all over again I guess. I heard Ringo, George, and Yoko didn't want to finish it. What's the deal with this version? sounds like jeff lynne produced it.

  • hi, Yes it's true, I don't recall where I read that.... for more Beatles 'insights' try the book 'here there and everywhere' by Geoff Emerick Beatles Sound man...also 'John' by Cynthia ex Lennon, where she talks about john's number being #9, (he died on dec 9th)

    London Time !

  • John wasn't born in London ...

  • ...Great Brittain time.......

  • Great job!!! They should have released it.

  • Ha ha brilliant! Hope Paul has heard this or someone in his circles knows of it? Would make him wonder why they could not get that result??? You don't need a Geoff Lynn it seems....just some effort. Well done lads!!

  • Who's Geoff Lynne? Do you mean Jeff Lynne?

  • From the sunny banks of the Mersey all I have to say is nice try.....

  • hey how can i get this song?

  • Great work!!!

  • Sounds like an Aerosmith power ballad

  • It's nuendo

  • the result is great but there is a magic thing with beatles:no one can think as them when writting, so my opinion is to be ourselves and to write what we really want to write...very nice job honestly well done

  • what is the name of the program you use to record?

  • i dont think its a program...in my opinion it must be a sound card and some good mics...

  • HAH ur dumb

  • Nice job.....sounds good!

  • Its not the beatles. Its all lennons lyrics.

  • Muy similar esa gravación al estilo de los Beatles. Cinco estrellas.

  • como todo lo que echo por los beatles

    perfecta

  • pretty close, I guess.

the slide guitar is not quite George Harrison, but then again Goerge was a very accomplished guitarist and not very easy to copy. Good job :)

  • great

  • You should all hear the entire 'with a little help' album. great job virtual beatles

  • look

    /watch?v=QlVZxeRUzTY

  • Nice job. Its great to see any photos of John especially in 1980 the one of him at the Piano with Yoko showing us exactly how these recordings were made was excellent.

  • The guitar work and the harmony sound great as does the entire song. Truly a fabulous result and a real treat to listen to. How can I get this in an MP3 form? I would love to download it.

  • Ya me too

  • a song of the beatles 'now and then'...an imaginary song video with john lennon on lead vocals and piano...and to imagine paul, george, and ringo finishing this song for anthology 3...a creative work indeed...kind of spooky...5stars*****

  • asi es si siguen la trayectoria de jeff lynne(e.l.o) , en esta rola todo suena como las producciones que ha hecho .

  • i am sorry for the beatles funs i love the beatles butttttttt this song sound like e.l.o in every single way, no doub it has a tocuh of jeff lynne. the magic of electronic effects it seems like richard tandy its playing keyboards this is like a jeff-E.L.O song

  • jeff worked also on free as a bird and singed on john's voice, nothing strange if it's like that also here

  • John Lennon is a genius.

  • I think the reason he put the chorus/flange effect on John's voice was to hide the electronic buzz in the original recording.

  • now and then oneofthe bestsongs

  • Pretty cool idea. The drums sound exactly like Free As A Bird which is kind of lame but it still sounds alright. And yes the echo is absolutely terrible.

The backing vocals are cool, and the guitar is alright it would be cool if you could have re-created George's guitar sound.

  • Come on guys, why that echo thing?? You make him sound like f.ucking Cher!!

  • I don't think Jeff Lynne would have put John's voice under water. Anyway, it's rather interesting and the performers did a good job.

  • The real Beatles version of NOW AND THEN is supposed to be coming out soon. According to a flurry of newspaper-internet-and Beatle Blog sites. But thanks for giving something to listen to. Weren't you gonna post all the Beatle songs you have done ? Whatever happened with all that? It just seems to have ailed off

  • Reports continue to flood Beatle blogs and news organizations that the real Beatles NOW AND THEN will be released fairly soon! But thanks for letting us hear something in advance---where's the rest of the unes youv'e done weren't you gonna post all that ?

  • I love this song, especially if its in both versions.

  • This one is ok. I think the other re-make with the actual beatles being heard is good.

  • U Sure about that? I think some of Now and Then was on Anthology 3.

  • Nah mate. it has never been released officially by The Beatles on any of the Anthology albums - not even the bootleg versions!

  • Thank you so much whoever did this - it's like the sort of thing I hear in dreams

  • the echo is in place because it is trying to disguise the buzzing noise on the original demo. pehaps you ought to listen to the demo version before you comment(if you already have, then listen carefully)!

  • echo still sounds bad. would rather have the buzz

  • Thats great Nowhere to go has never been done! Real Love will be interesting But I like the Threetles version! Help me to help myself is a good one too! Good fidelity on the demo! There is a mediocre fake already on youtube yours will be better! India India-Cosmic empire-window window-Serve yourself-lots to choose from have you heard all of these? I'll send them to you if you dont have them! Great job! Cant wait for the new George! WOW WOW WOW Hurry!

  • I've messed around with this at home and I take accapella beatle harmonies like because or juat accapella harmonies---I shape the pitch and timing and edit the phrases to get real sounding Beatle oohs and aahs and you get my point ? anyway great stuff! Wheres the next song its been a week! come on come on! your blogspot has nothing on it! I think you should take now and then and work it just a bit more! I can live with it the way it is but some real Beatle harmonies would make it a little better

  • Hey get more on the blogspot! hurry up with that album! We want the next song! These are almost good enough to be the real thing! DO cosmic empire and window window and Serve yourself and India india and Friend of Dorothy! Hurry!

  • excellence!!

  • A Demo of John's i'd love you to give the Beatles treatment is 'Help me to help myself'. I hear it (in my mind anyway!) as a Beatley/Soul/RnB/Gospel (what a mouthful!). The harmonies similar to the ones heard on 'Here, There & Everywhere', John's 'Woman' & Yoko's 'Hard Times Are Over' would be a good starting point for inspiration. Anyway, keep up the good work, you'll always have a fan in me!!

  • Help me to help myself is on the list todo... We're just finishing the mixing for Real Love and Nowhere to go! Have a little patience with us, and thanks for your support!

  • Hi Gaius 476. Well as you already know i'm a great fan of your very Beatley version of John's demo 'Now & Then'. I didn't know you have already completed a Beatles tribute album! Well it's time you uploaded it here for others to listen to. Also, continue your Beatley re-workings of John's Dakota demos.

  • Thanks for posting! You can visit our blogspot called virtualbeatles

  • is there any way to download this song?

  • The whole album will be available to download from our blog, as soon it's finished! we're posting news there. Thanks for posting! The songlist we're working on will be there soon, we don't know if ALL of then will be included in the final CD.

  • I hope so... A Beatles cover band should do it... That song is more Beatlesque than any other Beatles song ahah! Isn' t it?

PS: In my opinion Sean and Julian together sould do a version of "Now and Then", a duet... it would be very emotional.

  • I agree with the'John's sons bit'. If Paul can get over the 'not havin a beatle child involved in Beatles projects thing' then Julian/Sean/Dhani (Harrison) could be great additions to the Beatlely harmonies on a version of 'Now n Then'. God MarcoZucchi81 we don't half think alike!!

  • I think you should overdub beatle-stule instruments and vocals to the acustic demo of "Woman" released in 1998... John intended than one like a Beatles-style song, you can even hear him sayng that in various bootlegs.

  • That's a great idea. i've wanted Macca to do a 'Beatley' version of Woman with his vocals joining John's one in unison. If Gaius can pull it of as well, that would be great. The closest we may get to a Beatles version of Woman song is if the Bootleg Beatles do it.

  • Hey Gaius, this for me is the unofficial Now & Then (until Paul releases the Beatle version). I always listen to your version on repeat whilst i surf the net. Polish this version up (change the lyric from "i know you back again to me " to "i know you're back again with me") and consider it for general release as a cover version once The Beatles have released their one. Or release it first!! I hope your other reworkings of unrealeased Lennon demos is just as brilliant as this one.

  • Amazing, the backing vocals are great!

    Kepp it up!

  • Wow, wicked dude. Do some more!! Some more of those George demos!!

  • That lead guitar is literally perfect. It makes it sound more like the Beatles even than the mix alleged to actually come from the mid-'90's Jeff Lynne sessions. That guitar sound is so extremely George.

  • Hats off to you

  • Superb! Very impressed. I like the way you made it very Beatley sounding instead of doing it in your own kinda style. I can't wait to hear 'Grow Old With Me' in your Beatley sound. Well done!

  • Thank you very much mate for your support! "Grow old with me" is on the list of songs to do... It'll be on my channel in the future! Thanks for posting

  • Ur welcome. Now & Then is my favourite unreleased of the 4 tracks used or discarded for the anthology 'reunion'. I did a rough soul/gospel version of John's 'Help me to help myself' on cassette some years back(still got it). Its awful but it gave me an idea of how I would like that song to sound like. Someone else has already posted a version of it on here. Anyway keep it up!

  • It is a great public service to finish songs like now and then or sa Georges Cosmic empire or similar songs--to simply redo real love or I dont want to do it is simply an ego stroke. DO the dakota lennon demos or harrisons demos. this would be such a delight for fans. You did a masterful job. I might suggest you get a little help on those Beatle harmonies-to be tactful you play great but your beatle style singing is about a C+ not an A but overall you are doing terrific work! do more&hurry!

  • very good! much better than the other version thats been on around a couple months.. Of course what would really make it sound beatles is if Pauls voice was singing harmonies and course how could you do that! still good job.. The guitar really sounds george'ish! Rather than Real Love which is fine the way the beatles finished it. Might I suggest Serve yourself-India-life begins at forty or she is afriend of dorothy--you be providing a servoce with those allowing people to hear produced versions!

  • Excellent work overall, my only complaints are that the, although reverbing Lennon's voice is a perfect (and appropriate) way of covering the tape buzz, it's a little too strong. You could scale back all that echo so the lyrics are clear but the buzz is still hidden. Otherwise the harmonizing/completion vocals are sufficeint but not great. Anyway, the whole thing indeed sounds very Beatles. Well done.
