A new psychoactive substance has been discovered? I beg to differ Salvia has been cultivated for over 2000 years by humans since it cannot reproduce without help from us. I wouldnt recommend Salvia at all for recreational purposes as it is highly potent and introspective.If you are going to take it avoid any extract over 10x concentration and smoke a TINY bit. Trsut me you will have a shock when you have a complete ego loss and forget you have a body. Have a watcher present.
@restlesspride666 If you take a large enough dose I would consider it an ego loss because when I did it I lost all sense of self including mind and body. My cognitive functions were all gone I would compare it to the transition that happens when you die. I find if you resist the salvia cross over barrier you will start spontaneously sweating all over and you will not have total ego loss. If you relax properly and not be afraid you will lose your ego.
Salvia feels really similar to DXM to me. They both give the sensations (ironically) of various nerve clusters being shut off throughout my body in a lateral pattern. These sensations correlate with the visuals. The main difference, of course, is that Salvia is much more powerful, and forces me to discipline myself as if I were on LSD. DXM, on the other hand, makes me feel really stupid. It's more of a "child's drug."
@SchizoManatee my god. You described my exp precisely! I would add if you take a heavy hit with no discipline or prior experience, that lateral pattern that swirls around your nerve endings will feel like it's crushing you and can be very painful. I've seen bad trips online that mimic this perfectly.
I smoke salvia and i had such a trippy high i was floating over the car i was in and we were driving and i was moving really fast. Then I heard a voice that said come back to us. I don't know what happen but I think I died or something lol could someone explain to me what happen or what I went threw its like I seen other people with me floating but couldn't see there faces or bodies but I knew they were there. And also when I noticed I was floating I forgot my whole life. Please help.
@wallacer5487 I know exactly what you are talking about! My last salvia trip(10/28/11) is very vague, but i remember being surrounded by four beings. There were so many colors around me and it felt like one of them was holding me. I could not see any features on their bodies only shadowy figures. Then I heard one of them say "come back to us". That may sound scary but it was quite the opposite, they felt like beings of love! Anyways, it's nice to hear people having similar experiences. Peace...

I'll tell you what, years ago before the big fad I had extreme experiences on this, it is literally the strongest trip and most physically hard I had stumbled across.
Low doses will give you visual hallucinations. Mid- to high-level doses will have you leave your body. Luckily it only lasts for a few minutes although it leaves you with a general buzz similar to cannabis afterward. It WILL likely expose your fears so keep in mind that those fears are not based on true reality. Absolve them and love your self completely.
Salvia is intense. I smoked half a bowl of x20 and got that scared as my body started to disintegrate that I asked my son (who was 20) to hold my hand as I thought I was dying, and I've taken acid for years.
@cpnkd7 its because you were stuck inbetween "universes" as i call it. your either not trippin, stuck in between, or in another universe. you do a strong extract like 60x, and it wouldnt be as scary because your not even aware of whats goin on. being stuck in between is scary cuz you feel soberish, but everythings all fucky
I think you might be on to something there. I've recently found out that I hadn't smoked enough as it should have been a full bowl and I didn't hold the smoke in long enough. Oh well, here's to the next time.
nothing wrong with smoking weed and drinking beer. Beer actually helps me concentrate and I can hold a conversation better. I have had very good conversations too and if you mix weed in with it, then the conversations even get better.

Easier to get extracts than wait 3-4 months to grow your own. If I knew before I tried it I may have waited. But tighten your boots cause this shit will scare you into reality. The only thing he said to describe the effects was "it comes on so fast that you have no impression of it coming on at all. you do it, and after a while you notice that you have been staring at something incomprehensible" Uh that's not exactly an amazing perfect description of the experience. Salvia is sacred to me. I first smoked it about 5 years ago; it was such a profound experience I have never been the same since. It is a Devine key to your own internal reality. @manbearpig5000000 My salvia trip had a lot to do with stretching itself to show me that I'm the skin of it and assuring me that I already knew and had just now remembered. I felt like everyone had been lying to me my whole life and I was pretty pissed, like they had just gone along with it to be nice to me. My first psychedelic experience of my life was when I loaded an entire bowl of it in a bong, smoked it all up, ghosted the hit, and instantaneously, time was frozen, and all I remember was a loud repeating sound like I was in a manufacturing plant within my brain. I was looking at my frozen body being twisted into a vortex in and of itself, stretched out along a seemingly infinite spindle. I thought I died. Such a terrifyingly uncontrollable trip. The good part is that it only lasts ~5 mins

I've done many psychedelics and other substances....salvia at the high doses is just madness that no matter what is not relaxing. It's always a crazy experience. Personally I don't enjoy it, but I respect it.

@CvijaFaQ well i did 20x in a pipe and what i did was take a long hit hold that, and without blowing it out quickly take another hit while its still burning. Now hold that those 2 hits at one time, and blow out and literally in 5 seconds reality flipped into a dream
Just read through all the pages of comments. Amazing the variety of experiences this plant produces. It seems to me in a way to be the opposite of the sense of connectedness to all other things that most psychedelics produce. I felt as though I was very seperate (at least the "physical" part of me was). It was like the world was made of cardboard and I was aware of being on some sort of cosmic set. Strange stuff for sure.

@Grendo147 Yes it is. When I used it back while it was still legal here, I felt as though I was on a conveyor belt being packaged and sent off to... somewhere. Another time, I was some sort of child genius in a large white room floating above myself sort of puppeteering my "real" body. Every time I used it, like many others I felt the impression that there was a feminine presence with me that I couldnt see. Very bizarre and felt as though the experience was the way reality really is.
@Damien F77 I also have had the feeling of being packaged on Salvia. I had two "people" a woman & a man wrapping me up in a thin film like material. I have also read in a book exactly the same experience, strange stuff. Also if you feel that feminine presence again ask her kindly to show herself and she might just do that, well it worked for me in my first salvia vision. I'm thinking that there is something very special about this plant .
@astralstate73 Wow thats amazing, what did she look like? Did she say anything to you? I felt for some reason as though I was not allowed to know why she was there and that so much of what I was experiencing was going to be taken away when I return to the "real" world as a way of keeping the salvia world secret. Obviously hard to explain as I'm sure you know from your own experiences. It is absolutely a very strange and special plant.
@Damienf77 I know what you mean about the salvia secret , it's a feeling I always get when coming off salvia, I almost feel I shouldn't reveal what she looks like, but I will ;-). She was young looking, slightly more evolved than a normal human face and had a glow coming from behind her like you see in religious paintings of mary, jesus hindu art etc etc. but a bit more psychedelic looking, the glow was orange to gold and very bright.The feeling I got from her was that she was very shy.
@astralstate73 Although I did not actually see her, I did get the sense that she was physically young in appearance but had a great deal of wisdom. Its interresting that you mention having the feeling that she was very shy. I had the impression that she was more of a commanding presence... kind of the "strong silent type" I guess. What I would give to be able to bring a video camera into the experience... what a documentary that would be. :)

What I did get though was that I felt like I had infinite knowledge and that there was nothing that I didn't know. Also worth mentioning is that I seemed to be floating in "a space" with all these fleshy tubes going as far as I could see into the distance, which also is a very common theme in the salvia world. I also get a lot of encounters with human entities on salvia as well.
@astralstate73 I had the same feeling in one of my trips in particular, that I had infinite knowledge and could see all things as they really are. I could see through the illusion of everything back here in our plastic day to day lives right to the core of things. I didn't experience the fleshy tubes but that certainly is interresting. The first thing I thought of is The Matrix, how they have tubes connected to them in the machine world.
@astralstate73 Damn thats a low dose. Anything less than 20x and I don't feel much of anything. I tried chewing just the leaves one night and didnt experience anything except a bad taste in the mouth.
MOST people do not enjoy salvia. MANY people have terrifying or uncomfortable trips. SOME people find it to be a wonderful and rewarding experience. It is NOT a "feel good" drug/entheogen. It is NOT a party drug. It is an intesely personal experience. It is a beautiful and eye opening experience for some people, but many (I dare say most) people are not compatible with this plant. For those who are, salvia is precious. I have had dozens of wonderful experiences. No bad trips to speak of.
I've had company totally unable to comprehend what it was all about. Rejecting it completely. More than once. Swearing never to do it again. I should mention that most of these people are avid pot smokers. I see a conflict there. I don't know. I don't live in a country I was raised in. I dare say I AM one of the compatible type, at least till date =o)

@star9rocks ty for stating it, and I will re-state due to the importance (imo) : salvia is NOT a party drug. If u wanna party, go get drunk and smoke and 8th of weed, those will do just fine. Or, spin round in circles till you fall down laughing. I'm in the same opinion as star9rocks, this is not a drug for most ppl, but to those who are 'compatable' it is a precious and invaluble tool.

@clark144 300 MICO grams is the amount of Divinorum A needed to have an effect which what I was saying. It is such a small amount that just plain leaf should do fine. @umbilicaltapeworm I hear you but it gets harder to acquire as each state legislates against it....the plant is actually quite easy to grow and make cuttings from. Might not transport well in cold weather. You can chop off a stem and drop it in water and you can grow another one. Grows as high as six feet then you harvest the leaves and use the stems to grow more so its sort of a self perpetuating plant.

there is no real money in Salvia anyways...well you wont find big money in it. In it's extract form it creates too many unpleasant trips for too many and for those that do have interesting experiences on it it lasts too short. It also is not an addictive substance or return customers is reduced. Most "normal" people would rather smoke a joint or get a six pack. I really don't see it as anything but a current fad that is slowly fading out like...doing the Macarena.

i tried it twice in a 20 minute span, and immediately I saw serpentine light creatures swarming around me, It had to be the craziest psycodelic experience I have ever had, and ive tried mushrooms twice, both taken 1/8s, and LSD, two tabs, and this short 3 minute experience dwarfed the others, it was crazy, also a tingling sensation throughout my whole body like I have never felt before, how its legal i have no clue...
I put out the lights and took a hit from my bong...IT came on me like a dream, I ceased to exist...(I was not in Kansas anymore,I was on Pandora xD) It was an out of my body experience

ok heres a section from a salvia trip i took where i burnt a whole party bowl.
i was not in my body and i remember looking down at a single stair of an old stone stairwell tower. on the stair was a miniature round table with black hooded figures seated around its edges. i was zooming out from my perspective while this was happening. while this all was occuring, another black hooded figure with a very circular cartoony face was in the top right part of my vision chanting things i didnt understand
im not even kidding or making any of this shit up. case and point; dont fuck with salvia if your an ignorant fool or youll get thrown so far and so deep into the pool of peculiarity that you probably will have a completely different outlook on life when u come back...

I find if you resist the salvia cross over barrier you will start spontaneously sweating all over and you will not have total ego loss. If you relax properly and not be afraid you will lose your ego.

Salvia feels really similar to DXM to me. They both give the sensations (ironically) of various nerve clusters being shut off throughout my body in a lateral pattern. These sensations correlate with the visuals. The main difference, of course, is that Salvia is much more powerful, and forces me to discipline myself as if I were on LSD. DXM, on the other hand, makes me feel really stupid. It's more of a "child's drug."

I smoke salvia and i had such a trippy high i was floating over the car i was in and we were driving and i was moving really fast. Then I heard a voice that said come back to us. I don't know what happen but I think I died or something lol could someone explain to me what happen or what I went threw its like I seen other people with me floating but couldn't see there faces or bodies but I knew they were there. And also when I noticed I was floating I forgot my whole life. Please help.

There were so many colors around me and it felt like one of them was holding me. I could not see any features on their bodies only shadowy figures. Then I heard one of them say "come back to us". Low doses will give you visual hallucinations. Mid- to high-level doses will have you leave your body. Luckily it only lasts for a few minutes although it leaves you with a general buzz similar to cannabis afterward. LSD is beautiful and I love it.
However, I'm never smoking Salvia again in my life. I tried it a few times and found it uncomfortable, terrifying, unexplainable and... enclosing. Almost like I was entrapped in this momentary cage which I couldn't logically move in or out of or even reason with, just... horrible in every sense.
Maybe I didn't smoke enough and was on some kind of cazm but, I wasn't on any kind of real trip, just hilarity and paranoia.

My first psychedelic experience of my life was when I loaded an entire bowl of it in a bong, smoked it all up, ghosted the hit, and instantaneously, time was frozen, and all I remember was a loud repeating sound like I was in a manufacturing plant within my brain. I was looking at my frozen body being twisted into a vortex in and of itself, stretched out along a seemingly infinite spindle. I thought I died. Such a terrifyingly uncontrollable trip. The good part is that it only lasts ~5 mins

Just read through all the pages of comments. Amazing the variety of experiences this plant produces. It seems to me in a way to be the opposite of the sense of connectedness to all other things that most psychedelics produce. I felt as though I was very seperate (at least the "physical" part of me was). It was like the world was made of cardboard and I was aware of being on some sort of cosmic set. Strange stuff for sure.

@Grendo147 Yes it is. When I used it back while it was still legal here, I felt as though I was on a conveyor belt being packaged and sent off to... somewhere. Another time, I was some sort of child genius in a large white room floating above myself sort of puppeteering my "real" body. Every time I used it, like many others I felt the impression that there was a feminine presence with me that I couldnt see. Very bizarre and felt as though the experience was the way reality really is.

@Damienf77 I know what you mean about the salvia secret , it's a feeling I always get when coming off salvia, I almost feel I shouldn't reveal what she looks like, but I will ;-). She was young looking, slightly more evolved than a normal human face and had a glow coming from behind her like you see in religious paintings of mary, jesus hindu art etc etc. but a bit more psychedelic looking, the glow was orange to gold and very bright.The feeling I got from her was that she was very shy.

Its interresting that you mention having the feeling that she was very shy. I had the impression that she was more of a commanding presence... kind of the "strong silent type" I guess. What I would give to be able to bring a video camera into the experience... what a documentary that would be. :)

What I did get though was that I felt like I had infinite knowledge and that there was nothing that I didn't know. Also worth mentioning is that I seemed to be floating in "a space" with all these fleshy tubes going as far as I could see into the distance, which also is a very common theme in the salvia world. I also get a lot of encounters with human entities on salvia as well.

I could see through the illusion of everything back here in our plastic day to day lives right to the core of things. I didn't experience the fleshy tubes but that certainly is interresting. The first thing I thought of is The Matrix, how they have tubes connected to them in the machine world.

MOST people do not enjoy salvia. MANY people have terrifying or uncomfortable trips. SOME people find it to be a wonderful and rewarding experience. It is NOT a "feel good" drug/entheogen. It is NOT a party drug. It is an intesely personal experience. It is a beautiful and eye opening experience for some people, but many (I dare say most) people are not compatible with this plant. For those who are, salvia is precious. I have had dozens of wonderful experiences. No bad trips to speak of.

unfortunately the money is in extracts and McKenna said and I quote "Lets respect the plant" but you dumb motherfuckers didn't and look where it got you. You should have taken his advice and smoked just the natural leaf you dumb race car motherfuckers these extracts are what are causing the bad trip reports even the pro's start of in moderation and that is where plain leaf is useful you can easily control the dosage and get comfortable with it. Extracts will not get a pass from the culture.

@Sacredor unfortunately I have less faith that the government can handle its power responsibly than the youth with their drugs. In fact I'm more concerned with the abuse by our own government in regards to laws/control than I am over a teens bad trip on salvia . Unfortunately our society and or media isn't, so we get these draconian drug laws that ruin peoples lives in oder to appease uptight parents and school boards members at local PTA board meetings. @umbilicaltapeworm I hear you but it gets harder to acquire as each state legislates against it....the plant is actually quite easy to grow and make cuttings from. Might not transport well in cold weather. You can chop off a stem and drop it in water and you can grow another one. Grows as high as six feet then you harvest the leaves and use the stems to grow more so its sort of a self perpetuating plant.

there is no real money in Salvia anyways...well you wont find big money in it. In it's extract form it creates too many unpleasant trips for too many and for those that do have interesting experiences on it it lasts too short. It also is not an addictive substance or return customers is reduced. Most "normal" people would rather smoke a joint or get a six pack. I really don't see it as anything but a current fad that is slowly fading out like...doing the Macarena.

Most"normal" people(the masses) just want to be "comfortable",they don't care about life-changing psychedelic experiences.

I back the leaf and the plant in its natural state. As so to did the Mazatec Indians for thousands of years.They don't even smoke it. i tried it twice in a 20 minute span, and immediately I saw serpentine light creatures swarming around me, It had to be the craziest psycodelic experience I have ever had, and ive tried mushrooms twice, both taken 1/8s, and LSD, two tabs, and this short 3 minute experience dwarfed the others, it was crazy, also a tingling sensation throughout my whole body like I have never felt before, how its legal i have no clue...

ok heres a section from a salvia trip i took where i burnt a whole party bowl.
i was not in my body and i remember looking down at a single stair of an old stone stairwell tower. on the stair was a miniature round table with black hooded figures seated around its edges. i was zooming out from my perspective while this was happening. while this all was occuring, another black hooded figure with a very circular cartoony face was in the top right part of my vision chanting things i didnt understand
