  • yes its dm

  • great video josh see you at utc

  • @a1700zz

    who's that --> DM??

  • where is this?

  • @gmastah19

The description of the video says "Amtrak train #48, the Chicago to New York City "Lake Shore Limited" blows past a Metro North local train as the local attempts to stop at Ossining, NY. The two trains left Harmon more or less side by side, and 'raced' each other to Ossining where the local had to stop to perform station work."

but I mean thats just what's written in the description, it doesn't likely describe the video, its probably just useless babble..........

  • @nhlives now why wouldn't you jsut answer the man's question you weenie?

  • @cdizzle282

    what are you reffering to?

  • I rode a night time Budd car that chose to race Amtrak, Croton to Poughkeepsie. Weird. We bounced up and down, lurched side to side, watching the Albany bound Amtrak creep ahead, then behind. Before we bonked off the rails, the Amtrak put the pedal to the metal and lept ahead and out of sight. This was sometime in the mid seventies.

  • @gjhgjh so you were in a derailment?

  • Starting on 1'07"

Doesn't that sound like a plane taking off??

    haha! nice

  • to me it sounds like an M7A sucking.....

  • the 4 train at kingsbridge once overran

  • Four sleepers! That must have been a busy day.

  • oh my goodness, the M7s don't accelerate fast at all, I kinda thought they did

  • Good mn acceleration!

  • Good MN acceleration!

  • Good MN acceleration!

  • I don't know much about MNRR or the MTA, but was that electric? It sounded like the propulsion whine that the boston T subway trains make. So is there a third rail, because I didn't see any catenary or pantographs.

  • this is indeed the Third Rail equipped former New York Central Water Level Route - electrified from Grand Central Terminal to Harmon (MP34).

  • Ooh now I remember reading about that. Doesn't MNRR use some P32s for its trains in addition to its MUs? I was reading about the P32 and how it was used by Amtrak when they went to grand central terminal and still is on some services out of penn, and since Amtrak doesn't go out of grand central anymore I thought they might have given some of their P32s to MNRR (I know amtrak gave a bunch of F40s to CSX, tri-rail in florida, and metrolink in LA).

  • Cool! How many engines does the combined limited usually have? I will be riding it from Alabany to Chicago in a few weeks and was curious. Also I rode the Lakeshore from Boston to Springfield today and they put the sleeper back on. It has been gone for a while now.

  • usually only 2 ALB-CHI - and often the same 2 that run from BOS but not always.

  • New Hater! spazzum2! Look at my channel comment for proof!

  • this reminds me of MARTA

  • by MARTA I assume you mean Atlanta - and if that is what you mean please describe to me how this video reminds you of MARTA - I'm interested to know!

MARTA has NOTHING that even comes close to the speed shown in this video.

Although the M7As are nothing more than overgrown subway cars they are much larger.

The trains here also carry a much more well mixed population demographic than MARTA.

  • idk, just they just sound alot like the MARTA ones when they start up and what does mixed population demographic have to do with anything?

  • ok, you mean the annoying "AC Propulsion whine" - I understand now. The demographic comment was just an observation - it has very little to do with anything in reality.

  • haha, I kinda like it, prly just for the good memories it brings back

  • any idea what the name of those double decker cars are?

  • well there are no double decker cars in this video, so I'm not sure what you mean.

If you are referring to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th cars behind the engine on the train at the start of this video, those cars are "VIEWLINER" sleeping cars - which are Amtrak's only single-level sleeping cars in the current fleet..

  • yeah, i thought they were cause of the double windows, but thankyou for clarifying that for me

  • glad I could clear that up for you!

Its better to ask and learn, there's no harm in asking! Thanks!

  • 4 viewliners in a row. Nice catch!

  • Wow 4 sleepers!!!

  • Cool stuff, The Limited at speed, i filmed the train near me, the first viewliner was newly painted, it might have been deadheading to NY or south...

  • i actually want to go up to Stuyvesant and get 'em in the 125 speed zone, even though his train is restricted to 90 account heritage bag and horizon car.....

  • There is no 125 zone on the Empire Corridor. There was supposed to be, before the Turboliner rebuild/track upgrade project was canceled. Top speed currently is 110 mph, and Heritage equipment is allowed 110 mph. So, there's no restriction for the Lake Shore...

  • sorry, you are absoloutely correct about the speed up there - 110 not 125 from 124.3 to CP-141. Sorry, I don't know where I got that - I thought for some reason there once was...

However, I still recall seeing somewhere that there was a restriction on heritage equipment. I was only able to find a copy of a bulletin order restricting 1600 and 1700 series baggage cars to 89 miles per hour both on CSX and MN, but that was all I could find on quick look....

  • Good stuff! It's always cool to see the same train in different places along the line.

  • God That Noise of the M7 gives me a headache...

but the rest of the video is good. 5/5

  • Good job!
