I hope they remove the tedium of the X games. You should be able to do a fun mission in 5minutes. In Terran conflict sometimes it would take you 10minutes just to get to an objective, then you fail it because you didn't get there in time, or didn't have the right equip, or aren't strong enough etc. It was a slow painful experience. Occasionally I complain about games being dumbed down for a console audience, but I think it is needed for Space RPG's. Skyrim has benefited from this approach.
So the series dies... We get new, shiny graphics, tons of "cools" stuff like npc crew in exchange for ability to pilot only one ship. Yes, the player will no longer be able to pilot other ships. We will get one upgreadeable bulls*** with some kind of drone control system to "make up" for lack of pilotable fighters. Capital ships can now only be controled indirectly by orders...
No, thanks! This already kills the game for me - getting the funds for glorious M1 was half of the fun for me.
@szajbuspl Have you not seen the forum post by the developers about their decision to 'lock' you to one ship? You can still pilot drones of all shapes and sizes (hopefully giving an even greater variety of ships to fly) and you can still own and transfer to capital ships, they're just piloted by NPCs. You can still save up a mountain of money to pay for an M1, they've just taken the tedium of actually flying them away from you. I don't really see how much has chnged!
@AcrobaticRex actually i read up you can Dock on Capital ships an walk about the Deck. but thats it. as you know you can walk around your own ship an meet the crew. i'd also assume you can walk onto stations too, perhapes your own quarters like from eve online or something.
@szajbuspl its not so bad. the ship you get is like a corvette size ship. an you can even get up from the cockpit walk around it an interact with the crew while stuff still goes on outside.
remember X-BTF you can only fly 1 ship an that was it. couldent even control others. thats how the X series started
on here you can still build stations and econemy an command vast fleets of Destroyers and carriers along with countless fighters and corvettes. so wahst the big problem here?

Someone compared this 'awesome' one ship with deck idea to Mass Effect and Normandy. Fine, but ME is pseudo RPG, not economy and fleet based game. If it was, I'd hate Normandy because I would not be able to pilot the REAL capitals.
@szajbuspl well, noone knows as to what way you can upgrade the ship, the Corvette you start in is a very old ship, an they said it gets upgraded throughout the course of the game, but how far an waht way can the ship be upgraded?, does it get a Hull extention? does it gradually get bigger to fit bigger guns on it an a larger hanger bay for drones etc? it could be anything. i dont see how it even cuts out any content, have you even looked up to the Details there putting in the game? its crazy!!!
fyi, according to egosoft, they startet compltely from zero with this game. in the older games, they mostly just re-edited present engine, voice, graphics etc and labeled it as a totaly new game. you can see it as there are sounddata in X3TC that haven't been used since X2. the only great changes were between XTension, X2 and X3R, X3TC is bassically a highly modded X3R. So Starting over might refresh the series. Whatever, I'm buying it!
Hopefully they make this game just like the old ones. Playing a game that was genuinely difficult was like a breath of fresh air after those crappy shooters. All that time spent getting past the 10k creds mark then forgetting to buy a salvage insurance :P that was fun.
I don't see why people bitch in the comments. The X series is awesome and has gotten better and better with each episode. X3TC introduced a more User Friendly GUI and it didn't lose anything gameplay-wise as far as I'm concerned. Also, EVE is an MMO while X is more singleplayer oriented, so it's completely useless to compare them as they are different at their core.
Also I'm really looking forward to this. X3TC was the shit, so imagine a sequel...

with all this talk about the terran sun blowing up, your forgetting the terrans weren't originally connected to the gate network, so a supernova there wouldn't likely effect the entire network. more likely a supernova at some sort of hub or something like that where it can cascade to every other gate makes much more sence

Still, anyone who hasn't played X3 or X3TC need to shut their holes about the graphics because those games were near Crysis quality, assuming your computer could handle it.

I would post some kind of flame for this game, but I am one of the few to realize that this is part of a series, and not copying off of anything that came out recently. And honestly, if gameplay is good who cares about graphics...the graphics on nintendo 64 games sucked but they are still in my mind the greatest games ever made. (for example, Ocarina of Time). For those of you who havent heard of the X series. Have a look at X-3, the graphics are very good in the last version of the game and will probably be surpassed in the new game. X-3 and Eve online are very different games, Eve you can only have one of your piloted ships and drones. in X-3 you can own as many ships as you please from a minning frigate, to a carrier with 70 fighters, to a fleet of battleships however large you like. I will say if you purchase X-3 it has a very high learning curve

What I commented on was this "Evolved" game that is being promoted as the by Deep Silver games as the next best thing since sliced bread, not the entire fucking series. @Alanssil cockpits yes but they should be toggle-able. Cockpits in X2 are good, but if you add the cockpit mod to X3 it looks like sh*t.
The X games are the best in my opinion. After you've mastered the steep learning curve, this game is AWESOME!
I hope they will develop piracy more in this game. :)

@Skyhawk90 except the original X was, and you know it, nowhere near the caliber of EVE, and that wasn't where I was aiming. This trailer looks like a classic EVE trailer: Wide shots of ships in space, warpgates, and large fleets = classic EVE.

@Shiigent Thats a point. Lets wait how much their going to change the mechanics of X. Up to now they "just" evolved their titles of this series. Seems that they wanna do major changes in the new X, maybe somewhat like a Freespace with trading? Or a singeplayer-EVE who knows :D

Also, you can't say that the X-series was trying to copy off of EVE just because the graphics weren't as good as EVE and the plot wasn't as solid when it first came out...it still arrived before EVE...period, end of story, this game isn't trying to copy it, not an MMO, and you fight in First Person style...hmm that's exactly like EVE...

@jh5kl Also I do realize this is a series and one may think that they are just using the same game so why would it be in alpha or have shittier graphics then normal. But if you are redoing a lot of different things then you may start certain things over from scratch...and might make the graphics a little bit worse...
Still, anyone who hasn't played X3 or X3TC need to shut their holes about the graphics because those games were near Crysis quality, assuming your computer could handle it.

I would post some kind of flame for this game, but I am one of the few to realize that this is part of a series, and not copying off of anything that came out recently. And honestly, if gameplay is good who cares about graphics...the graphics on nintendo 64 games sucked but they are still in my mind the greatest games ever made. (for example, Ocarina of Time). Looks interesting, i may give it a go

For those of you who havent heard of the X series. Have a look at X-3, the graphics are very good in the last version of the game and will probably be surpassed in the new game. X-3 and Eve online are very different games, Eve you can only have one of your piloted ships and drones. in X-3 you can own as many ships as you please from a minning frigate, to a carrier with 70 fighters, to a fleet of battleships however large you like. I will say if you purchase X-3 it has a very high learning curve

What I commented on was this "Evolved" game that is being promoted as the by Deep Silver games as the next best thing since sliced bread, not the entire fucking series. This game, not the series, looks like a mirror of stuff that was being done in EvE 5 years ago.
FYI: Commenting on a game that harkens to other contemporaries has NOTHING to do with the series it came from.
