i bloody lovr the golden girls.they were all brilliant.god bless estelle getty it was very sad wen she passed.the girls always have brought me such pleasure, and always picked me up when i was feeling down.steve.
this was such a great show :) whenever i get sad about all the crap on tv nowadays i can always just go and watch some golden girls or i love lucy and i can smile again :D
Oh, she's just dressed like a fairy tale character to tell a... well, a fairy tale. She could also have dressed herself as a fairy godmother or whatever.
RIP BLANCHE...thanks for the laughs.(did you guys know that she almost was the part of "ROSE" (the dumb one) and ROSE was almost BLANCHE (Betty White)
In 20 more years, this skit will be revered as one of television's most classic moments, up there with Lucille Ball's "Candy Factory" skit on "I Love Lucy", or Seinfeld's "Soup Nazi" scene! RIP Estelle and Bea! You are dearly missed!
Great comedies shot on videotape, such as this, "Mama's Family," "All In The Family," "Maude," and "The Nanny" have become a thing of the past.
Gone as well are the great, older classics shot on film & kinescope, such as "I Love Lucy," "Mister Peepers," "The Honeymooners," "Our Miss Brooks," "December Bride," "The Andy Griffith Show" and "The Dick Van Dyke Show," among others.
As have all the great, family-oriented comedies--"The Danny Thomas Show," "Father Knows Best," "The Donna Reed Show," "Leave It To Beaver," "Dennis The Menace," "My Three Sons," "Hazel," "Family Affair" and the like.
Even the era of "Seinfeld" & "Everybody Loves Raymond" has passed.
Pretty much the best one may do nowadays is "Two & A Half Men," which has a really good ensemble, especially Holland Taylor & Conchatta Ferrell (as the guys' mother/grandmother & housekeeper, respectively).
Other than that it's the one--camera comedies (produced like feature length films), such as "The Office" and "30 Rock," or all those insipid "reality" shows--races & talent contests, make-overs & wife-swapping shows. Yecch
I know she was getting up there in years.. I know she wasn't well for awhile.. Still her passing hits hard, and I think watching this great series--one of my absolute favourites of all time--will feel very different for some time~ One-of-a-kind, that Bea!
I think it's interesting how their characters in the play so mirror their personalities in the show! ...I wonder if "Rose" was based on "Henny Penny"...LOL;))
Don't know how many times i've come and watched this? one of my favourite clips. Just brilliant.so sad to hear that Estelle died this week! gave us many many laughs!
One of the series greatest bits! I have YET to find what I think is thee most moving moment of them all their classic moments tho'~ when Blanche is met with a true, old-fashioned romancer, {in Ken Howard}, and the last scene is Rose asking her, "Well.. how does all this make you feel?", and Blanche says, adrift in bliss, "...like a lady". *sniff-sniff*:'-) ..StiLL gets me whenever I see it!;D
I feel like Henny Penny was made for this show. The roles are just too perfect!
