Being an animal shelter volunteer I exercise and socialize pit bulls every time Im there. I have taken out familiar pits to others I have never seen before. I have never been attacked nor have they acted aggressively toward me. They are traumatized when put in the kennels and they could easily lash out at me but they dont. I show them love and I get love back, those are the facts.
Pit lovers keep talking about bad owners, which isn't the point.
I had a German Shepherd mix as a kid, and she was kept in our large back yard. She was a bit aggressive at times, so we kept her chained when visitors were there. One day we were playing with some other kids running around the house and the dog broke the chain and attacked one of the visitors. At 13, I was able to get the 90lb dog off him in 2 seconds. THIS VIDEO SHOWS THAT CAN'T BE DONE WITH A PIT.

A gun should NEVER be in a home with children or anyone else unqualified to own it; the same applies to pit bulls. Also, if you wouldn't take a gun somewhere, you shouldn't take a pit there either. The difference is a pit can go alone.
My friend got attacked by a pit once... i will never forget that day. I was riding my bike with another friends down my street and i saw it... Mikayla getting mauled by a pitbull. I had Mike call 911 and I sprinted over to them and tackled the dog off of her. The dog started attacking me. I didnt care... i knew i had to keep her safe until help arrived. I was battering the dog. Mikayla, pitbull and me (Shane) all had serious injuries. The dog was taken away and euthanized... She called her hero
This is fucking stupid, When are they going to pass a law that requires you to pass a test or get a special license in order for you to own a dog! NOT just pits, But anydog! When a dog bites, a lot of people are like: "Oh, poor dog - it must have been poorly raised or abused! It probably doesn't mean to harm people". Come on. Don't you think it's maybe, just maybe, possible that dogs are animals too, with animal instincts? A strict upbringing will definitely make a difference, but a dog is still an animal. Animals can be unpredictable sometimes, they don't know what's right or wrong in our eyes.

I deeply care about animals, I really do - but some animal lovers just don't realize that the safety of other people is more important than the life of a dangerous dog. I don't think a dog is worth saving when it has attacked someone and just wouldn't let go, because this is a serious incident. There's no guarantee that the dog won't do something like this again. It looks like the dog wasn't even provoked.

@kwade1957 I've own them in the past and I train them and rescues them on the side. I've seen many a pit bull and even the more aggressive ones were trainable and changed into sweet dogs. Unless a pit bull is abused (they are the most abused breed) or not properly socialized and trained (they are only advanced expert pet owners because of their energy levels etc.) they are GOOD dogs. You need to face the fact that most people should not try and own a pit bull, not that they are simply dangerous.
@mjfromga89 Try telling the woman who's 6 year old son was killed by her OWN pit bull that she abused it. ALL dogs are GOOD dogs...until they aren't. NO dog bites anyone...until they do for the first time. The big difference that you Pit lovers don't seem to get is that with Pits - more than with any other dog - that first time is potentially FATAL. Pits bite FEWER people than any other dog, TRUE - and kill FAR MORE PEOPLE than ANY OTHER DOG!!

Just because a pit bull is a "family pet" does NOT mean the dog was treated properly or that the owner was competent enough to own one. A high energy powerful breed needs to be owned by people who have the time to properly train it and socialize it. I'm NOT a pit owner anymore, I only own a pit mix mutt. The power and drive of the pit bull is only matched by it's desire to please it's owner....

I'm just saying that I have NEVER had anything like this happen and will NOT because I am very careful and I take care to TRAIN my dogs properly. I love pit bulls and their energy and their sweet personalities. I have owned them in the past, currently own a mix (14 year old retriever/pittie mix) and will own them in the future. Not a single one has hurt anybody or was even aggressive enough to bite a harmless child....

Even if your pit goes it's entire life never threatening anyone, they will NEVER be certain they won't someday be attacked. @kwade1957 I have my lab mix running loose in my yard under TOTAL control and people act skittish. Also there are many pit bulls here so they won't be any more nervous than they already are. This area has almost no young children. I truly believe that nothing like this can happen to me, because what happened here certainly would not happen to me and my dog would not be aggressive anyway. If you believe in fate, then even if the dog DOES bite someone, it was simply fated that way.

There are many dogs that have all the same characteristics you claim to love in a pit, without the deadly potential, but it's clear you and other pit lovers don't want any dog but a pit or pit mix, so it's that fear a pit causes in others you must really be after.
@kwade1957 The only thing I could do for people who were afraid of my pit bull was to try and show them that they should not be, but they refused to hear me out, they thought of my dog as a monster without knowing her, they wouldn't let her get close.. they turned her away so I no longer care and I have a right to feel that way. They let the MEDIA teach them and that is not my fault. Also if you look at my current dog, you would not know he had any pit bull in him unless I told you
@kwade1957 People here are only skittish around my dog because he's large and he runs and is playful but not leashed. If I had another pit bull (there are MANY here) I would not even get the reaction that maybe YOUR neighbors would give. But when I was in places like parks away from home.. yes people were afraid. A woman saw my pit bull and before even coming close to see if she was friendly she said "I don't think that dog is friendly".

i've had pits all my life and they are loyal friendly and very family/child loving they wouldnt attack someone unless they were trained to or beaten, my little cousin is 2year old and plays wit my pit all the time and the dog loves him and the kid pulls on him and everything but the dog just licks him and remains calm good dog <3pitbulls fuck any1 who down their breed its not their faults
@gorefestggg There are lots of other dogs that are just as loyal and friendly and loving, just as unlikely to attack anyone, and just as careful and caring around babies and children. Lots. The only reason to get a pit bull instead of another breed is if there's something about pits that NO OTHER BREED HAS. As far as I can tell, that quality is the ability to win fights.

I have been told by an expert who works with wolves!That Rottys,Pit bulls,Presas,Alsatians,German Shepards,and dobermans are the main ones that are NOT suitable for PETS in a family home.Without question the dog should be put down before it kills a child next time.Pitbulls should be made illegal,and specialist dog licences should be required for the dogs above,where there are strict penalties for dogs of this nature not being kept under control.

ps my niece turned one, and my pit laid on the ground around about 40 people she's never met including several kids that pulled her tail, grabbed her jowls and ears and put toys in her face and she didn't move. She did walk right up to my niece lick her hands and make her laugh..... yup that's a born killer. I see your point. Danger to society. I should have her put down. I would like to know how many times this kid teased this dog while she was behind a fence or tied up. Many times that is why they go after people when they get loose. Pair that with the owners lack of knowledge on the how to properly care for and socialize any dog let alone a Pit. from what i know about dogs, i will give my opinion: dogs will attack for a variety of reasons -whether it feels threatened, bought up that way, or if it's just naturally aggressive-. i don't believe all pitbulls are aggressive, i've seen some very well-natured ones. sometimes dogs are like humans, they can just snap. this one obviously snapped for whatever reason and i personally think that if a dog has attacked someone who didn't provoke the dog, it should be put down. there's my two cents
Yes it would be so so awful to not have the right to own aggressive dogs. How absolutely horrible to lose that freedom. We all know that many of us ABSOLUTELY NEED an aggressive dog. Truth be told, some of the kindest, most playful dogs I've seen jave been the big strong, stout dogs (Pits, retrievers, etc), while some of the meanest dogs I've seen are the irritating little ones (Dacshunds, chihuahas, etc). The problem with "Sweet Pea" here is that her owner didn't train her properly. The fact that she was pregnant didn't help things either ( pregnant mammals, or mammals with tiny young are VERY protective).
Interesting analogy. Truth be told, anything (weapon, animal, etc) that is potentially dangerous I would NOT leave unattended in the living room, especially with a child running around.
And I would not let ANY pit bull near my kids unless I got to know the OWNER and if I knew he was trained to be around kids (or at least raised around them).
I didn't get the full story from this clip, but I'm guessing that the dog wasn't used to kids or trained to be sociable.
The only good pit bull is a dead pit bull.

Being an animal shelter volunteer I exercise and socialize pit bulls every time Im there. I have taken out familiar pits to others I have never seen before. I have never been attacked nor have they acted aggressively toward me. They are traumatized when put in the kennels and they could easily lash out at me but they dont. I show them love and I get love back, those are the facts.

I had a German Shepherd mix as a kid, and she was kept in our large back yard. She was a bit aggressive at times, so we kept her chained when visitors were there. One day we were playing with some other kids running around the house and the dog broke the chain and attacked one of the visitors. At 13, I was able to get the 90lb dog off him in 2 seconds. THIS VIDEO SHOWS THAT CAN'T BE DONE WITH A PIT.

My friend got attacked by a pit once... i will never forget that day. I was riding my bike with another friends down my street and i saw it... Mikayla getting mauled by a pitbull. I had Mike call 911 and I sprinted over to them and tackled the dog off of her. The dog started attacking me. I didnt care... i knew i had to keep her safe until help arrived. I was battering the dog. Mikayla, pitbull and me (Shane) all had serious injuries. The dog was taken away and euthanized... She called her hero

When a dog bites, a lot of people are like: "Oh, poor dog - it must have been poorly raised or abused! It probably doesn't mean to harm people". Come on. Don't you think it's maybe, just maybe, possible that dogs are animals too, with animal instincts? A strict upbringing will definitely make a difference, but a dog is still an animal. Animals can be unpredictable sometimes, they don't know what's right or wrong in our eyes.

I deeply care about animals, I really do - but some animal lovers just don't realize that the safety of other people is more important than the life of a dangerous dog. I don't think a dog is worth saving when it has attacked someone and just wouldn't let go, because this is a serious incident. There's no guarantee that the dog won't do something like this again. It looks like the dog wasn't even provoked.

@kwade1957 I've own them in the past and I train them and rescues them on the side. I've seen many a pit bull and even the more aggressive ones were trainable and changed into sweet dogs. Unless a pit bull is abused (they are the most abused breed) or not properly socialized and trained (they are only advanced expert pet owners because of their energy levels etc.) they are GOOD dogs. You need to face the fact that most people should not try and own a pit bull, not that they are simply dangerous.

@kwade1957 I have my lab mix running loose in my yard under TOTAL control and people act skittish. Also there are many pit bulls here so they won't be any more nervous than they already are. This area has almost no young children. I truly believe that nothing like this can happen to me, because what happened here certainly would not happen to me and my dog would not be aggressive anyway. If you believe in fate, then even if the dog DOES bite someone, it was simply fated that way.

If I had another pit bull (there are MANY here) I would not even get the reaction that maybe YOUR neighbors would give. But when I was in places like parks away from home.. yes people were afraid. A woman saw my pit bull and before even coming close to see if she was friendly she said "I don't think that dog is friendly".

The only reason to get a pit bull instead of another breed is if there's something about pits that NO OTHER BREED HAS. As far as I can tell, that quality is the ability to win fights.

I have been told by an expert who works with wolves!That Rottys,Pit bulls,Presas,Alsatians,German Shepards,and dobermans are the main ones that are NOT suitable for PETS in a family home.Without question the dog should be put down before it kills a child next time.Pitbulls should be made illegal,and specialist dog licences should be required for the dogs above,where there are strict penalties for dogs of this nature not being kept under control.

ps my niece turned one, and my pit laid on the ground around about 40 people she's never met including several kids that pulled her tail, grabbed her jowls and ears and put toys in her face and she didn't move. She did walk right up to my niece lick her hands and make her laugh..... yup that's a born killer. I see your point. Danger to society. I should have her put down. I would like to know how many times this kid teased this dog while she was behind a fence or tied up. Many times that is why they go after people when they get loose. Pair that with the owners lack of knowledge on the how to properly care for and socialize any dog let alone a Pit. from what i know about dogs, i will give my opinion: dogs will attack for a variety of reasons -whether it feels threatened, bought up that way, or if it's just naturally aggressive-. i don't believe all pitbulls are aggressive, i've seen some very well-natured ones. sometimes dogs are like humans, they can just snap. this one obviously snapped for whatever reason and i personally think that if a dog has attacked someone who didn't provoke the dog, it should be put down. there's my two cents

Truth be told, some of the kindest, most playful dogs I've seen jave been the big strong, stout dogs (Pits, retrievers, etc), while some of the meanest dogs I've seen are the irritating little ones (Dacshunds, chihuahas, etc). The problem with "Sweet Pea" here is that her owner didn't train her properly. The fact that she was pregnant didn't help things either ( pregnant mammals, or mammals with tiny young are VERY protective).

Interesting analogy. Truth be told, anything (weapon, animal, etc) that is potentially dangerous I would NOT leave unattended in the living room, especially with a child running around.
And I would not let ANY pit bull near my kids unless I got to know the OWNER and if I knew he was trained to be around kids (or at least raised around them).
I didn't get the full story from this clip, but I'm guessing that the dog wasn't used to kids or trained to be sociable.
