Knappertsbusch + Parsifal = sublime, spiritual experience; nobody has ever matched him in this opera, and I think the 1951 Bayreuth live performance is the best.
Parsifal as it should always be directed. I was brought up on the 1951 Bayreuth Festval version directed by Knap wth George London as Amfortas and Ludwig weber as Gurnemanz, Parsifal being sung by Wolfgang Windgassen (on 33rpm London Records). I also have the 1964 Bayreuth Festival Knap version... I still tend to prefer the sublime 1951 version. This was a summit in emotion, drama and "retenue". There has not yet been anything as emotionally and spiritually enriching.
Perfect ...

This is my Perfect Parsifal:
Amfortas - London
Titurel - Kristinsson
Gurnemanz - Hotter
Parsifal - Vickers
Kundry - Meier
Klingsor - Neidlinger
Conducted by Knappertsbusch ^_^
THAT would be good ;)

@Shogunmiyuchan In my opinion The Greatest Amfortas ever recorded!

Parsifal should always be played slow. Anyone who performs it closer to 4 hours than 4 1/2 needs shooting.

The 1951 recording is best! I favorite Richmond LP long time.

Yes. Incredible recordings. The '51 recording of Amfortas Lament is inmarched. Knappertsbusch diminuendos in the 62' recording sublime.
