Hi Rick, Kev from Belgium here. Good video , not easy to cover this vast subject in 15 mins, but your main points were accurate. Hopefully this will get others thinking.
Hello Rick, I came out of your news-letter with the old username RuiZappa, I decided to subscribe to my youtube new user. For me, this video is the continuation of the culture of your channel .. a kind of marathon
Consistency is the word with which I define your channel, thanks for the culture
In a world changing SHTF situation (from natural or man-made disaster) cash money, gold, silver, jems etc will be worthless since there won't be any governments worth a damn in power anymore to underwrite the value. There won't be banks either since banks are backed up with governments.
Building materials, medicines, tools, fuel, food, water and practical skills will be the new currency - exactly as it was when early man started to live in groups after leaving the caves.
@TK42138 Spot on. I have been increasing my supply of manual tools, seeds, clothes etc. I hope it does not come to this, but I have a feeling we are staring at years of poverty.
Rick I do really hope not to live like Mad Max, no matter what how exciting it can be.
All we need to do is fight back politics and force them to work for us and not for the "economics", as much as odd it might sound. After all they represent us, either they received our vote or not.
Edit* I just watched the 5 minute upload, much more gratifying, especially at the end, and I'm sure the whole movie is even better. Seriously, watch it now, you'll be grinning for ages, I am... :)
Everyone please search, " Network - Mad as Hell " here on YT. Completely sums up the zheitgheist at the moment. It's 2 odd mins ling, I promise you it's worth a look.
Rick, good idea about the list, but in my opinion economic crisis is coming because people r getting scared to spend. That trend is stopping the circle of our life. As per idea of precious metals well that is what they want you to buy or sell. If you in starving situation, r u going to buy gold? No, so the demand is not going to be that high, in that case price will go down. I like your idea of self-growing but not everyone can do it.
The first step in my opinion should be to get to the quality not quantity production. We buy a lot of junk but there is more produced. That is why the problem started. Nobody needed so demand was low and money stop circulating. If we stop buying, we causing problem on ourselves. Just think for a minute about it. That is what we do, buy and buy and work to buy more or work on something so others can buy.
1) I live in an area where wind energy is deal, so I intend to get 3 small wind turbines (that can generate about 800 watts)
2) Transform my backyard, pull up the grass, grow grapes, blackberries, kiwis, peaches, and other plants that grow well in Oklahoma.
3) Build a computer that uses less then 300 watts -- just needs to have 4-10TB of space to store a Wikipedia backup, medical information, etc. Hard part will be low watt hard drives.
Rick, just another note. You're dead on with your views. I agree totally. Another thing you might look into is how to preserve your food. I grow a big garden and learned home canning from my granny and my momma. I have canned beans and tomatos etc. from several years ago that's just as good as the day I canned it. I try to can enough green beans to last a couple years in case I have a bad year or get sick and can't garden one year. I grow a lot of corn too. Thanks - Ricky :-)
@songster99 Hi, this is what I mentioned to Rick in a previous video, when he was talking about 2012 and the upcoming year. With his allotment, canning his own food/produce would make a nice "preparedness" video playlist?
Very good video. I've thought about this issue for a couple decades now. So many people can't survive more than week to week. It's really scary. Self protection is one thing to consider cause when it does hit the fan, hordes of unprepared people will resort to violence and looting, robbery etc. Just a little gold and silver for trading purposes is a good idea too, and anything that can be traded. Bartering will be a new way of getting things you need. So durable goods will be like money. - Ricky
I think another important skill to learn is herbal medicine. If there is an economic melt down then most people will not be able to afford to go to the doctor so knowing how to use herbal medicine and how to make herbal medicine will be important.
I think another thing to learn and be prepared with is natural medicine, herbs, etc. If there were a economic meltdown most people would not be able to afford to go to the doctor. Learning how to use herbal medicine and make herbal medicine will be important.
Another great video Rick, im glad im not the only one thinking about this over the years! Keep up the good work and great thoughts my friend and may peace love and happiness embrace you and your family..
I have a question that I hope u will answer. What if we had FULL WROL. u have all these stocks of food, water, shelter & so on. How r u going 2 protect them from people who would do whatever it takes to get them off u? I know in ur previous vid u had a slingshot which 2 b honest isnt much good. Why not own a firearm to go hunting with, it is ur RIGHT 2 own 1. I'm in the UK and I own 1 for hunting. A nice .22 rifle would fend off bad guys better than a slingshot plus will b able to get u food.
@TheLordSVS Maybe but its something we in the UK have to fight for to keep. having a firearm could feed your family should the need arise.. theres nothing like fresh meat. Plus if there was a whole mad max uk it would help you protect your family. ; )
Obscurity is your best defense here in the UK in the event of prolonged civil unrest. Unless your neighbors are 100% trustworthy then I would not include them in your plans. A lot of people by there very nature would take the easier option of stealing rather than growing vegetables or stockpiling supplies.
if the euro collapses then europe will go into financial chaos, and it will bring the dollar down with it. here in southern spain we are seeing the affects already, large stretches of road are in darkness at night because the gov cant afford the electricity bills.
@TheArtyFartyParty ive tried talking to those around me, and people think i'm nuts. ''hey ho its just plain old life''. most wont wake up til its too late. then they will come running to you, ''help us, help us, what do we do?
Excellent video Rick. Just a question: when you say "sell the car" or whatever, my question is "to whom will you sell?!" - the chances of everybody being in the same situation is high. Don't you think?
@jbonacho Rick's not talking about selling his vehicle, he is saying you won't be able to use it (no fuel, etc.). The best thing to do is get situated so you won't have to travel much or far should you be without a vehicle. Set up your reserves and just stay put. Have a BOB (bug out bag) ready should you need to leave, but just get yourself situated. When/if things fall apart, you won't be able to sell your vehicle. No one will be able to buy it, and when fuel runs out, that's it.
Very good balance of priorities in this video Rick, I think there is huge value in the point you raised about local cooperation, which by teaming up gives on eaccess to barter, group security, and moral support.
@TruthResearchChannel Yes, but choose your friends and/or neighbors well for when/if things go awry, "everyone" will want to be your 'friend" if they know you have things, and then you may get looted (stolen from). All I am saying is choose wisely.
Being realistic here, I don't think anything major will happen. Yes, times will be tough, government cuts will be tough, but I don't think anything major will happen, certainly not in my country. Nothing wrong with being prepared though.
Interesting thought though, if say the world does go to the wall, weather that be an economic collapse or 2012 or whatever, do I really want to struggle on and try to survive?
My concern is heat. We are ok for the most part but I don't have a good plan for heating the house except for 1 kerosene heater. As for moving to a warmer climate, my house is nearly paid for and I have friends and family in the area. Being poor and amongst strangers, or worse, be considered an outsider would be a terrible position to be in. I'm afraid once I realize heading toward the Equator is my only option. I would most likely be out of resources and couldn't leave anyway.
Not a long or boring video at all! Quick note....be cautious about storing needful things in banks....Bank Holidays, ya know? Ok, everyone can take their tin foil hats off now. I do think how the world reacts to what's coming will depend a lot on where you are located. Looks at the riots the US has over little to nothing. Imagine how those same ppl are going to act in a food shortage. So yeah, part of me IS thinking Road Warrior. Lol.
Well at the end of the day, debts that can`t be paid, won`t be paid!.....let the great deleveraging begin if you have a flack jacket put it on boys and girls and brace for impact!
@GanEdenVideo You have no idea! I read a quote today from Martin Luther King, it read "I don`t feel sad for my attackers that heard me, I`m sad for my friends that did`nt"
@GanEdenVideo Yep! History my friend.......we hav`nt really changed at all. What do you think the term "I am a benign God" means? it`s code for "You`re on your own buddy and I`ll see you in where ever!
@GanEdenVideo Coming from someone who believes in pagan rituals, I`ll take that as a compliment...........actually it`s people like you who give God a bad name.......I thought God is Love and Forgiveness? That does`nt sound like you, so I guess you`re in the wrong pagan club!
It's important that our efforts to guard against an economic collapse don't end up creating an atmosphere that causes the collapse! Otherwise, stocking up merely prepares us to become marauders in the future, which end up being very bad planning, oops!
Hi Rick. Thanks for putting this list together. Reading all of the comments from the original request video was a bit overwhelming for me. You did a good job "funneling" everything down though and putting it into a logical, easy-to-understand order. Since you were talking about solar power (i.e., for a laptop, etc.), have you ever considered solar panels for your home? They might be worth looking into since your business is online. Then you would not have to worry if the power grid went down.
Too many takers and not enough makers in the world! Governments make too many promises; confiscate wealth and redistribute it to those who refuse to do their share. So, now we're all broke. What a surprise?
I have been in similar situations in Miami Florida, living in a Van or in a houseboat (nice option being able to open a window an catch a fish for dinner) for showers and baths I used to go to state parks with a beach and had a anual pass, now I am a member of a comunity center, Where I can take a shower when needed. My electric needs are 2 compact fluoresent lights, a 22" led tv, an a cheap laptop, all powered by a 70 watt solar panel, the truck battery and a 70 watt 110 volt converter
Heating, At this very moment I am living in a 30 year old camper in North Dakota, temp outside 0 farenheit, I have been in this camper for 8 months, My fix for the colder temps is a good sleeping bag and a hot water botle in my feet. Water jugs that I have in the camper are frozen solid. It is not the first time,
