Dave'e formula for success: drink all the booze at the free bar... only remember the last words of every line of the song and get paid a million bucks for 45 minutes. Good shit... where do I sign up?
David Lee Roth either you love him or hate him he'll always be the voice of Van Halen and this band richly deserved to be the headliners of the Us Fest which the Metal Show was the most attended event.
Dave was a pretty mean harp player. It would be badass if they put a tune on the new record with him blowing on that thing! They need to go back to some blues roots... do some badass boogie shit like the old days. That's what rock needs these days. Fuck those emo fags and NuMetal douchebags!!!!
To me Roth drunk was better than when Hagar was sober. Hagar is good as a solo artist or with Montrose, but Hagar with VH is like oil and water. Just my opinion.
Dave is the best front man and even though Dave is great with VH and Eddies greatest guitor player they are only there best together they enhance, they are like brothers when together shame the family hated each other but thats families
dave did great shows because KIDS WORSHIPED HIM NO MATTER HOW FUCKED UP HE WAS . still the best front man though. hagar was great too. did not care for vh 3, sherone was great in concert though . i was pleasantly surprised.

HEY ROTH U FUK.I PAID ALOT OF MONEY AND TRAVELED ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO BE THERE AND LISTEN/WATCH UR DUMB ASS SCREW IT ALL UP!SHIT-ASS.SCREW YOUR FANS EH?!HEY DIPPY CAN'T YOU HEAR YOUR HARP IS IN THE WRONG KEY! YEA - THATS IT, JUST KEEP BLOWIN.....dont listen, ASSTARD. FOR THOSE WHO WEREN'T THERE- THIS IS THE MOMENT I STOPPED BEING A DEEP VH FAN, TILL HAGAR THAT IS. The band just outgrew Roth. Hagar was a nice fresh sound with Finally some lyrics past grade school. thye both have thier place.
ur a retard they were both good what roth lacked in singing ability he made up for in stage presence and as for hager u r dead right he was good but u care too much about lyrics can halen was always about the music not lyrics
I disagree about the lyrics taking a back seat in VH songs. Some of the lyrics are rock epics now. Just the band is sooo great. Alex is a superb rock drummer, Michael is a ptretty good bass player with a great sense/talent 4 back up vocals and melodies. Eddie. Yea I understand bout' music from the hip section, raw, bitchen electricaly charged. But missing the lyrics an artist like VH put's in thier songs is really just for simpleton's. Oh and stage presence DOESN'T sell records!
well im sorry but records stop selling if a band sucks live look at the worlds greatest example dragonforce and u should listen to the lyrics especially for van halen then u most likely wouldnt like them as much im not sayin lyrics arnt important they just arent wat is the most important never will be and if u think they are then i dont think u deserve to call urself a musician
Alot of bands have made great career's without any great stage presence or personna! Oh and I am very experienced playing professionaly all around So Cal. I guess it's all with what you like or are drawn to. Me I think lyrics ad and are just another canvass. Also I tend to like socialy conscience lyrics - but that is for thinking people.
mate tell me what social lyric music has made a difference even Dylan with with song of a injustice blach man being jailed didnt free him, music will never change conscience only individuall and organisational groups that work towards a better world (never happen) but VH they were here to entertain and rock us like all bands who gives a stuff what the words are but what we feel at with that music and performance is what is great and Dave with VH did that along with many other great bands
Well if that's so.. I don't know where you heard that. Mostely the oposite. but-They have both gone back and forth and a few years back, when VH asked him to just jam and see, Roth blew the hole thing by going around telling every1 that a TOUR was for surely coming. So whatever. Hagar and Roth both have thier Great places, but 4 me Hagar is for smarter lifetime kinda music, Roth is more charged adolescence, wich you probably eventually grow out of. I admit both era's where great!
Remember, they had been on vacation for a couple of months with no rehearsals. Plus, they had been waiting all day long to play. Too much time on Dave's hands equals excessive drug and alcohol use. I know it's no excuse for his below-average performance, but that's what happened. Eddie totally screwed up the 1984 tour for me. He just stood there, barely moving like he was going to fall down. But he's my favorite guitarist and they were my favorite band. Disappointed? Yes. Leave them? Never!
HA HA. So kill the fkn messenger, pussy.... he has no shoes! 6 thumbs? who TF Cares? I've been called worse by way better! Does som1 elses capslock really bug you anal retards from the short bus? Don't you have something else to occupy that lil space of a brain? Moron.
@REALITYCHURCH i just dont understand why you say how you paid alot of money to see this show and went across country and dlr fucked everything up but yet you still come back to it
You're right. I've been a Van Halen nut since '80. The real VH is with David Lee Roth, but I liked some of the stuff the boys did with Sammy as well (though I only own one of those albums).
That said, in this era the thing that bugged me was DLR being too drunk live to remember the words, and good luck getting a full melody line out of him. So yeah, his harmonica playing fell into this category as well. Too bad, because his bluesy voice is still one of the all time great rock vocals.
Only te mighty V.H. could take a TERRIBLE song like this and turn it into a classic!!!! They could absolutely do no wrong at this point of their career. I agree with prskolnick- ed's tone is incredible. The TRUE Brown sound!
Our host Cetlahi edited out the drum solo following Unchained, which was smart. It wasn't the most creative solo Alex could have devised. But this show, with Dave drunk or not, still runs miles around today's dreck.
I was there, I was 11 years old at the time. My mom was so cool to take us, it was a hellish kind of a day but the bands were fantastic. (I love the full bug, one of the best songs off Diver Down)
Hey everyone, VH is still great...In case any of you like live bootleg shows, there's an absolutely free website that has posted bootleg VH shows, ALOT for free. Some are great soundboard quality, some are so so. They're all fantastic in my book. From rare DLR era '74-'77 shows when VH was doing mainly cover tunes to the '04 shows with Sammy. All you have to do is register for free. Google search GUITARS 101 and you'll see Van Halen bootlegs and alot other bands too!!
From the very first time I heard Eddie do that damn pinch harmonic on the G string he had me hooked. That is the coolest sound and NOBODY has ben able to reproduce it like him. Nobody knows when to use it, just like the whammy bar. I hope Eddie gets his sh*t together and VH tours once again. In the beginning he said he'd play for 50 people, I'd be one of the 50 who would love to see that.
Now that's what I call a harmonica solo, yeah just shove it in your gums and blow! Ha ha, maybe it would've sounded better if he played it with his butt.
i can't believe how well Dave played that harmonica
