@Toker41 Thanks so much. I don't have anything that could turn out a quality recording from home...just a mixing board, some free recording software, and a living room that always has cartoons playing in the background.
You are a skilled vocalist, I loved your performance, however, I agree that the hard strumming of the guitar are distracting, perhaps it's the position/closeness of the mic? The string's age or tuning?
Regardless, you are a skilled musician with potential. Glad I came across your video.
@PunkinO1111 It was probably any and all of the above. At the time that I made this video, I'd been playing guitar about 3 months. Thanks for listening.
@zensorship I see you have removed your comment, although I did receive a notification of what you had to say. I will let the folks who have found a way to enjoy my channel determine whether or not I have uploaded a "failure" here. My channel is just as much about documenting my progress as it is about sharing my music. You may consider yourself a supporter of artists, but calling them failures because they're not masters is not supportive no matter how qualified you think you are.
I deleted my comment after listening to more of your videos. As I found out, you have produced your first CD "Hurricane". And your dad is a musician, too. I listened to his music, too. You are a Hillbilly Miley Cyrus, it seems. Okay, so be it.
Very Nice, I like rendition of the song which made it unique and interesting. This song is a tease for me in vocals because there is no way my voice can hit the ranges after i have been trying a couple months. I have been playing guitar for 3 years so i have that down pat but ehh the vocals can not be achieved... Guess i need to find myslef a good singing lady friend haha. Good Video though 5/5*
I would recommend to write as many original songs as fast as you can. Write some with humor, some high and lonesome songs, Try a little Carol King in your videos, I believe in your case it's not if you will be a star, but when? Exposure is what you need more than anything. I like hard row to hoe, great stuff!!
Incredible voice! , need to get rid of the scratchy black white and guitar is not bad but get real guitar lessons, You are about 5 lessons from Allison Krause, Dolly and Eva Cassidy
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dont mean to be rude but your voice was a little shaky, try not to think so hard and some of the singing was a little falsetto, it was beautiful though!
I've been playing guitar for three months now and I totally blow. So you're doing great in my opinion. Not to mention your singing is awesome. And headbands are hot :)
You're at a good standard now with the guitar but to be honest your voice is that close to perfection that you never had to learn the guitar as anyone would be willing to play for you whilst you sing.
oh... I really liked the picking, but I didn't like all the modern folk styling and warbling. I prefer genuine early 20th century folk, or, even better, a true rendition of this classic song. Respect the original. I'm glad you are learning guitar, but god I hate that agro contemporary strumming. Go electric if you want to punk out.
My own thing? In case you haven't noticed, much of my channel is made up of my own original tunes. If you hear shades of Alison Krauss in my voice, I can assure you that it's just your perception and nothing I consciously set out to do.
sorry i meant to reply to someone who said the white stripes belong in a trash can but it showed up here instead, white stripes play a damn good version of this song, so much emotion
Wow, you have an incredible voice. You should seriously consider recording an album. This is the best vocal rendition I've heard yet. If you could get full accompaniment with this song it would be fantastic. (Not that it isn't already!!)
Hi. I think you provide a very nice, personal flavor to both the singing AND the playing. There are a lot of good artists out there, but only a few manages to express what one might call poetic qualities.
Almost any moron can train to be a technically good guitar player. Your lack of technique at this stage is totally irrelevant. I liked the way you played the song! So, thank you. Keep up the good work. Best wishes!
(Pardon if double post. My first never seemed to show up).
You really sound great. Your voice is filled with so much emotion. I especially love the ohh ahh ohh's in between the verses. Really nice touch. And I can see you're one of the last true AK fans out there. Keep up the good work.
Wow, that's the epitome of a backhanded compliment. I've heard some bad music in my day, but never would I be so unkind and tasteless to tell someone that they suck completely.
Try to read more carefully girl. I said I love your vocals and i'm not changing my mind.
Just try to be more objective. Take an advice and stop enjoying all the flattery. Focus on the constructive criticism and improve your skills to the perfectionism. Self-criticism doesn't hurt it makes you better and better.
My best regards (even though you've insulted me and my taste).
Telling someone that they suck completely is hardly constructive criticism. YOU read more carefully and you'll see that I've been offered real constructive criticism on nearly all of my videos, including this one (and you may want to research the meaning of backhanded compliment). You gave absolutely no advice. Tell me where, "You suck completely," contains any advice at all. I insulted YOU? I simply called you on a tasteless remark.
I have to agree with previous posters, this is by far the best performance of Jolene here (must say I prefer this to eveb Dollys version), and even if I really Brooke White's version I must say you're one notch higher. And White Stripes belong in the trashcan.
Thank you so much. Dolly now performs Jolene differently than she did when she first released it. I was pretty underwhelmed by Brooke's take on it because I was a big fan of hers and I think the song has bigger potential than she gave it. Two really good performances I can recommend are Mindy Smith's version (which first appeared on "Just Because I'm A Woman" and later on Mindy's "One Moment More") and Alison Krauss' version with Suzanne Cox and Cheryl White on the TV special honoring Dolly.
Wicked cool video. Honestly, I had never heard you sing until I attended Terror of the Tug last weekend. Spot on singing, and I dig the weathered look to the video.
Stacy... you ROCK. Wow. This is amazing. I can't believe you've only been playing the geetar for 3 1/2 months. THATS NUTS!! Btw... i'm a band member of The Shures with Ashley; Sunshine_Princess!! She recommended taking a listen! BOY was she right :D
You have a GREAT voice. You have the rare ability to use it very softly or very Powerfully at ANY time. It's like a switch you can turn on and off anytime you want to.
What is VERY Rare is that as your voice gets higher it doesn't thin; it gets more and more powerful. Most singers voices Thin as they move higher into their vocal register ... your voice is just the opposite ... it projects a Powerful Quality to the listener.
Thank you so much! When I was a little girl, I was singing in a Christmas show at church and I remember a lady telling me that if I would sing louder on the high notes that I would hit them better. I've never forgotten that advice :).

I love your interpretation of this song and your voice. Please don't hesitate to put more solo performances up.
Thank you so much! My best advice is to practice every chance you get. I try to have the guitar in my hands every minute that I can. It also helps to play along with CD's. I usually look online for chords to songs and then play along while I listen to them. Thanks again and keep practicing on that guitar!
