This is a neat little concept project. Regenerative braking is indeed an old nut. Many people have tried it, like flywheel energy storage and compressed air energy storage. But it doesn't look like a reasonable energy capturing system atleast for now.. I mean, otherwise devices such as this would have long ago been implemented. Take a look at the market. I The electric moped with its storage batteries will also be substantially heavy and it takes the fun out of coasting downhill away.
to Flashgameandmusic: when riding a bike you need energy to move about 70kg, depends on riders weight. when moving a car you need energy to move weight of more than one metric Ton (1000kg). depending of size and weight of the car.. Now which one do you think has more impact on the enviroment :-)
What Flashgameandmusic said holds some sense in a way. You need energy to ride a bike. That energy comes from food, and that doesn't come free. But the overall benefits to the environment and to your own health I think outweighs the disadvantages of riding a bicycle...until a point. What is that point? Think what would happen if all the world was populated with bicycles. It would be an infrastructural nightmare too. :)

When people ride bikes dose the food energy they consume have more of an impact on the environment than direct fuel use?

This is a great concept you have here, man. I just hope that corporate greed doesn't get in the way.
