Beautiful. Made from leftovers from the saw mill, utilizing the scraps! I like both the dome and the geodesic forms. Very inspiring. I'm a musician and I'm going to have to do some modeling to determine the acoustic properties; it might be a challenge to get it right for a recording studio (domes have a focal point which is undesirable, acoustically). Thank you!

If I built one of these I would reienforce the exterior and coat it with concrete that way the dome would never be destroyed but you might as well get a MDI airform and build a set of 20' domes and insulate with spray cellulose on the interior. If MDI could get financing and be able to tell you what it would cost I am certian there are many that would take what they could get as long as it was a dome and cost ~ mobile homes square foot wise. Domes should cost less than trailers less material.
Wouldn't it be easier to cover the outside of a geodesic? It seems to me that the flat surfaces of a geo are superior to this pure sphere in that respect.
this is pointless, i mean the cost to build not to mention the insulation value of another wooden house. compared to the already more practical concrete/polyeurathane dome housing. i dont think another forest should be cut down for another house that will just rot away in time anyways.
a lot of short elements is better environmentally because these could be built just fine with second grade lumber and otherwise scrap from the mills. The structure seems much less dependent on the strength of individual elements as opposed to flat walls which require strong sheet material for shear strength etc.
Talking to the people who built and own the domes in New Denver, BC, the trouble was developing the curved drywalling technique, which they did. The place is beautiful: Villa Dome Quixote. It's a motel. Very cool.
A dome is (almost) the perfect structure. Just look at the houses that are destroyed by hurricanes/typoons. I bet domes would have a lot better chance of surviving the high winds. If you put two domes together, you get a sphere. Seems to work for every planet and sun in existence. Reminds me of the old saying. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Learn from your environment. Don't bend it to your will, bend to it.

I like Geodesic Dome concept...
here in Concepción Chile I have a 8.8 strong hearthquake in february 2010
this is the way , this is the future- is simple.

awsome it survived four earthquakes of increasing intensity survivin one would have been impressive.

I own a geodesic dome. Wouldn't a geodesic design use less materials and still offer the same benefits?

skip the bullshit, show us the domes and how they were constructed...(we all feel very safe under such a shape....jeez)

Listening to these people speak is proof that the drugs were better in the sixties, but the long term effects on the brain also much worse.

It's a wooden igloo.

couldn't help but notice that the roof with the porch canopy looks like a baseball cap. Cool structure, though.

I was living in a geodesic last year it was awesome, pretty old though, lots of fun

if we have a pole shift winds up to 400-500 miles per hour are the problem. cement domes could be the answer, or go underground

Wood domes can burn, mold, rot and fall down. Check out monolithic domes build of concrete. Hurricane, tornado, fire, bug and bullet proof.

It is a fascinating video-this type of building form is not really apparent in the UK outside classical architecture
