  • "I know they are deformed, but it's perfection!"

  • Man's Ego V Healhty dogs. Breeders and show people should live and walk around, exactly looking like their dogs, both like the original and the today's show type and then see if they still support this type of breeding.

    Maybe this really IS better...?

  • I love how many people bitch about this, People have hearts now, They love the way these animals are, whether they pay a million dollars for them or get them for free, We feel bad for them and spoil them rotten, if you're dog overheats, it's your fault. we are the ones keeping bulldogs alive because we love them.

  • continued ... both for breathing difficulties. One was given to me, the other was a 'rescue' peke, the product of a puppy farm. Sadly I know of many pekes with great characters but with deformities. Perhaps if breeders had some financial responsibility should dogs they breed have inherent problems then they'd take better care. Hit them in their pockets ! Again I know of bulldogs, cherry eyes, skin problems, breathing difficulties. Of course there are good ones but sadly too few.

  • I am a Pekingese owner and sadly I despair. I am fortunate in that my current two are very healthy , great hearts and full of fun Having said that they are only 3 and a half years old & have had operations on their backs due to IVDD which the neurologist said is a 'small dog' problem as opposed to breed specific .Small dogs share the same dwarf gene that humans have, they also suffer from ivdd. My previous pekes needed ops

  • Simple fact is, Crufts promotes breeding ill animals. They dont give a rats ass about the dog, just the stupid prestiege of a ribbon. Ultimately pathetic. The pekingese was allowed to father 18 litters?! These "show" dogs are being bred by selfish A**HOLES and should be prosecuted for animal cruelty.

  • no its not comon for the dogs to be operated on for looks to win in the show ring X[

imagine how it would feel not being able to breathe! and yes im appauled that he won! if this is an inherited problem, he shouldnt have gone op to breed!

  • it's a little MONSTER !!!

  • i have 2 pekes too, my younger one has breathing problems. i cant take her out on walks with my yorkie.

    (the older peke is 13)

  • It's not so much greed that makes this happen. It's institutionalized brainwashing.

  • How sad. I own Pekes and love them. But some breeders go WAY too far. The breed was never meant to be so extreme that they can't breathe. The Peke originally was a spaniel-coated dog with a slightly-larger nose that didn't have these breathing problems. I feel so sorry for these little victims of human greed and vanity.

  • this is just as pathetic as the ridgeback one... Do ANY of you know how hot it is under the Crufts best in show lights? I do and I can tell you that any coated breed of dog, in fact even short coated dogs take strain under those lights...even people..ask them and see the sweat running down their faces! If I had shown a short coated dog they would have gotten iced water and an ice pack!! It has nothing to do with the breathing, as far as I know an Ice pack has never helped me with breathing!

  • Just go to a rescue or shelter- there's a lot of pekingeses and bulldogs there, i know. these dogs won't have breeding defects, just good genetics. :)

  • el video dice la verdad la raza esta enferma, se seleccionaron perros deformes, con problemas para respirar y reprodusirce. esos perros son una averracion

  • i think the breed is healthy and foundonly is silly.

you should stop the people that do dog fighting not the people that love the breed.

this breed has a history and it shows HOW little you know. so stop talking shit!

  • Have you seen photos of the first pekes imported to West?

You will NEVER see one like that in the show ring, although you might-- as Tibetan spaniels.

  • Breeders that live off of their dogs frequently sacrifice ethics in thier breeding programs for the almight $. Those of us who do this for a hobby, that spend way more than we can ever make are the true protectores of these purebreds. NOTHING in this world is perfect but you MUST make every effort to be ethical and humane in your breeding practices.

  • *spit* disgusting. NO SUCH THING as humane breeding if you KNOW the chances of abnormality are so extraordinarily high. Any abnormality that can be put in whole percentages is TOO HIGH.

Stop breeding dogs with KNOWN abnormality's expressed or not, because just because you can't see a trait doesn't mean it isn't recessive and not there.

Really be ethical and get all of your pets spaded or neutered to help control the pet population.

  • resposible breeders would not use a dog with breathing problems . A dog with a problem would have it fixed for his own health and never be bred from. The judges are at fault for rewarding wins to dogs that are obviously unhealthy, unsound and can only walk 10 steps around the ring.

  • Well I should hope there are Pekes out there without the problems you mentioned, but the big question is how can you tell which ones are healthy and which ones are sick, there seems to be too big an incentive for breeders to keep quite and sell regardless of the long term health of these poor dogs

  • This is total BS lumping every dog of a certian breed into the same basket. There ARE perfectly healthy Pekes , capable of being normal dogs. Check out my videos. No breathing hard,(no surgery) Nice flat faces fitting the standard.

  • Again it shows just HOW LITTLE you know to be a Full Champion in the UK a Gundogs has to also pass its working tests and it shows it is Fit for purpose and Fit for life" the vast majority of shows dogs are very happy, healthy and have extremely good temperaments . leading long and healthy lives free of ANY problems

  • Well all I can say is that I have many friends who own and use working dogs for real and would never dream of buying from the show ring breeder. I guess theres working dogs, and theres working dogs.

  • I wouldn't use a show golden retriever for anything, except maybe to produce some wool as it sheds its undercoat out. The field type of golden doesn't even look like this dog, and it doesn't act like it either. The field type looks like the dogs did in the 1920's and 1930's, when this breed was standardized from the lines of flat-coat that produced yellow and reddish puppies. The original golden was meant to be nothing more than a yellow wavy-coat or flat-coat.

  • Gundog working test trial in the show ring, A scented plastic duck , retrieved from a box of sawdust..

  • The volume on the video is so low hard to hear)

  • "if britian was a bulldog it would be on its knees"

no it wouldn't you fag because my bulldog isnt on its knees, its bloody fine,

  • I guess when you pay good money for what could be a less than perfect animal youre bound to be a little peeved, Im afraid that most of the current show type dogs etc are only, as the name implies for good for showing and useless for their original job.

  • i wouldnt say im peeved i just think this show is talking shite, i dont use my dog to catch bulls though or to show off, its my pet an thats it. plus i bred it out of deformatty.

  • In the US, we use the original bulldog to catch feral pigs. It looks like nothing like your dog and acts nothing like it either. We call it the American bulldog, but it's really your breed, just not screwed up like your dog is. I'm not being nationalist here, though, because we've totally effed up our variety of cocker spaniel.

  • @foundonly True. When people spend a ton of money on something low quality, they try to justify it as much as they can instead of admitting that they bought something of lesser quality. I don't understand why people pay for such animals and support the breeding of them. Breeding bulldogs like the ones depicted in the video is cruel.

  • That simply means you got a well breed one! Woot! The original Bulldog!

  • @Myles4Kane oh well, everything is fine then. i mean, so long as your bulldog is fine, by transposition, all others must be. What do these veterinary professionals know? did you even watch the clip? or did you just read the title and post a comment?

  • us human are disgusting

  • While we have a Peke in our family, I find the designer breeding trend deeply disturbing. Hopefully, good sense will overcome selfish vanity someday. Pekes really are over-bred animals; love-bugs, but over-engineered to be lap dogs.

  • just greedy breeders It makes me sick

  • I hope u r not referring to me because I rescued all my cockapoos except one & she beautiful, healthy, smart & I have nothing against pekingese

  • just watched video and i agree with marilee. its so sad that this slanted, biased, and overhyped program boils down to money and political agendas. my grandmother had a peke and he was fab x

  • very informative..how very sad that all is monetary. (The volume on the video is so low hard to hear)
