The Bush administration is on record as having conducted a considerable amount of water boarding. Water boarding is widely acknowledged as torture. Torture is widely acknowledged as a crime against humanity. When the Japanese water boarded US troops, during the second world war, the United States considered it torture and, as such, a crime against humanity. Furthermore, as the US is signatory to the UN, torture is illegal by virtue of the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution, Article VI
Yet what we do is extremely mild compared to what those ragheads do over there. If we have to rough a few of them up to save innocent lives then let them do it. You really need to ask yourself whose side you're on
There has never been any proof offered that water boarding insurgents yielded credible intelligence. Trust me - I do not need to ask myself who's side I'm on. I am (now just as I was while on active duty) on the side of our nation's Constitution and I refuse to set any of my standards based on those of a pack of nut-job religious extremists. Torturing people is against the law and applying euphemisms to it does not change that fact.
It's not like we grab random peple off the street and torture them. Not to mention we don't nearly go to their level. Have we beheaded anyoe yet? Have we blown up schools or hospitals? Do we use inocents as sheilds? This is an enemy that will sink to that level and some one has to go down to that level to get them. But if you don't think we should get our hands dirty lets just wait for the next 9/11
There have been a lot more detainees who've been determined to be innocent and released from Gitmo, than those who have been charged, let alone, convicted of anything. Many of the prisoners at that facility were held for years, without trial simply because they were turned over to US authorities, by tribal war lords. If that's not good enough, I can only reiterate that water boarding is torture and torture is a violation of our laws.
The Israeli intelligence sevice is given full reign over their interogatins and they don't suffer any large scale terror attacks. Why? because their methods are effective and brutal. Plus Israel puts the safety of its citizens before the rights of the terrorist attacking them.
Once again; There has never been any proof offered that water boarding insurgents yielded credible intelligence. In fact, more than one former detainee investigator has stated and/or testified that better intel was gathered when interrogators followed the Army Field Manual than when the Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld-sanctioned methods were employed. Furthermore, it is illegal and a violation of the Constitution to torture people. BTW, Israel has suffered considerably more terrorist attacks than we.
I'm just saying that people shouldnt be putting Bush on trial fr trying to protect this country. Too many people think that this will all go away if we show cmpassion to are enemies.
To suggest that anyone wants to put him on trial for trying to protect this country is an obfuscation and simply untrue. Anyone who wants to put members of that administration on trial, wants to wants to try them for violations committed against Our nation's Constitution, among other crimes. Compassion to our enemies causing this to go away: I'm afraid that's more, unproductive rhetoric. If we can't debate this factually, there probably isn't much of a point to debating it at all.
So you think if we just ask them nicely they'll tell us everything we want to know??? Not going to happen. And if torture doesn't work how come there have been no more terrorist attacks on the U.S.?
Ahhh you have put what I have been thinking this whole time into a delicious metaphor. A politician is a politician no matter what their skin colour is.
Great video!!! It is so real it's sad that Obama made his positions clear, yet people still had so much hope that he would support things such legalizing marijuana, completely ending the war in Iraq, ending our aid to Isreal, etc.
Fine then. Be mad at me. I still gave you five stars anyway :o) In my defense, the media hype (you know, the part where CNN kept saying it was going to be close race) was rather overwhelming and his propaganda machine was fierce. At least I finally fell off the bandwagon yes? Love the cereal analogy-- Only Obama was more like Lucky Charms.
I was eating a bowl of Lucky Charms just yesterday, and you are totally correct.
Everybody assumed his presidency would be magically delicious-- filled with hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers and blue moons, pots of gold and rainbows, and the red balloon.
I think a lot of people did just what you said, they just hoped he was kidding. And then there were also a lot of people who just took his speeches at face value... he talked about hope and change, and they just assumed it meant he wanted to actually change things and just thought that this implied certain policy changes that he never actually promised. I've heard some people saying Obama wanted to end the war... um, when did he say that?

Question what "crimes against humanity" did the Bush administration commit?

I voted for Ron Paul in the primary, and Ralph Nader in the general election, and I'm damn proud of it.
