Agree with you harveydents , although I loved Sin City. Aside from being so damn 80's, this TV movie was a very good interpretation of the character. Sam Jone, who played Flash Gordon, does a great job!
Thing that scares me about Miller directing movies is that I am fairly certain that after Nolan leaves the Batman franchise, they are going to con tact Frank Miller about directing "The Dark Knight Returns" and, as he tried to do to his own "Year One"(w/ Aronofsky), he will probably try to 'fix'/'update' the story and thus destroy it.
His 'Spirit' was forking horrible. For someone claiming to have been so close to Eisner he did not have a clue about the character.
@DoctorSkepticus you know Bruce Timm said WB animation are going to make a two part film of TDKR, just like they already made a Batman Year One, so I doubt WB will make a live action one.
Take note if you will that one of the guest stars mentioned in the credits its named Daniel Davis. That's actually the name that Ed Wood went by when he starred in his first movie "Glen or Glenda."
For what it is...it's a fun flick! Just wish it was on DVD!!! It's campy and over the top...just like the Eisner comics. Yes the Blue suit, hat, mask, and gloves look great! As to Miller's Spirit...got say...I liked it. It is what it is...and it may not be every ones cup of tea....but then again neither are the Spirit comics.
I know that this one is over the top but I liked. I got the chance to speak to Eiser about this one. Well it was little bit better than the 60's Batman. But I still loved it, Oh by the way watch the new movie it's great.
Miller's version is a better movie. What works in one medium doesn't necessarily work in the other. The comic book blue suit, blue mask, blue hat, blue gloves works in the comics but looks silly on a real person. This Spirit TV movie proves that.
Will Eisner said...The television movie left me feeling very sorry for Warner Bros., I felt sad for them. I sent them a condolence note because they spent all this money and came up with a mouse. And I don't mean M-A-U-S. [laughs] Filmmakers very often don't really, I think, understand the fact that a cartoon strip, cartoon story, or even a book, has a characteristic of its own that, to adapt it into film, requires a great deal of creative application.
The black kids's likely going to be Ebony Black.

shame this didnt go to series. i would have loved to have seen a proper version of the octopus in live action.

"Seen"? You wouldn't have "seen" a version of the Octopus that is slavishly faithful to the source material.
