  • 6.5s are good truck imo.. ive had mine for 5 years plus and love it.. fair amount of mods and its just perfect for my budget

  • I agree with @pznerd. I think the lettering is pretty nice.

  • bad glow plugs is the problem the white smoke tells you that

  • did you ever find out what the problem was?

  • hey i have a 6.5l just like yours, mine has a hard time to start like yours, is it cause bad glow plugs? or the glow plug switch? it starting to annoy me that it has a hard time starting....

  • @CostcoBulkBuyer

    Just plug it in!!!

  • @CostcoBulkBuyer yes change your glow plugs but make sure you sparay them for a cple days straight with pentrating oil of sumtype or you will snap them off and be kickin your self in the ass when u have to tear the heads off

  • mint truck man what kind of mpg's do u get?

  • dude sounds like a fuel pump is going or already went lol, maybe fuel injectors too hopefully not thoses fuckers are expensive, nice stacks to bud i like the aussies

  • youre diesel is probably gelled up from sitting out side in cold ass weather

  • not hating on your truck or anything, it's damn nice, but those 6.5 turbo's are absolute turds. my shop had one in their stake truck and the turbo only worked half of the time, it barely did 60 on the highway, and wouldn't downshift above 55mph, just spew ungodly amounts of soot (passers-by with open windows weren't big fans of me at the bases of hills) heheh

  • 179k? dude thats awsome keep it going!!

  • The tailgate decal is cool. IMO It should read 6.5L Turbo Diesel.

  • get a real truck get a ford

  • @THEGUZZLER1 I can't believe anyone would be proud of the 6.5 boat anchor. GM screwed the pooch on that one.

  • @THEGUZZLER1 ford are shit. most are worse then dodges. that saying a lot.

  • Rough start and all that has a sweet sound are those aussie stacks?

  • u should really let it sit longer in between starts brother

  • Ever heard of a Cummins?

  • @Snickmorder FUCK CUMMINS!

WHILE DODGE IS CUMMING FORD IS STILL STROKING!

  • @87BOGGERXLT haha why the fuck are you masterbating? quote only works one way buddy and you and ford got the shitty end of it..... plus you cant honestly be proud to own one of those engines, they are gutless...... they dont start worth a shit regardless of whether (hence the video)...... and there is not a sound terrible enough to compare them too

  • @87BOGGERXLT BTW.... nice jacked up ranger fruit cake..... bet that gets ya a hell of a lot of poontang

  • Just going to throw this out there it would apper to me you need new glow plugs probably a fuel filter or a new lift pump just my thoughts. also the only real problems where the PMD which they have a relocation kit for them to keep them from overheating i own a 1995 with 210,000 miles and it runs great starts with out being plugged in in 10 degree weather.

  • my duramax/allison six speed could blow this thing out of the water

  • @jtb3797

Well my rocket ship has a flux capasitor and and and my daddy can beat up your daddy....

    Jack ass.

  • @Camscape man i love ur truck man i have a 96 2500 with a 6.5 and it has 96,000 miles on it. pretty nice truck im planning on putting the same stacks on that your running but wat mods or chip if any are u running?

  • so i just bought my first diesel truck its a 1995 chevy silverado 2500 with the 6.5 liter turbo diesel. The original owner bought it brand new from the factory and used it as a pavement queen and maintained it very well. Super clean truck But i hear alot of goods and bads and im looking to dump money into but i just dont know if its really worth it. Anyone who knows alot about them hit me up on my email

    joshuashaw0885@hotmail.com thanks

  • Has this been a reliable engine for you? How about the electricals? My parents both own Chevy vehicles, both of them have had quite a bit of electrical issues, my mom's TrailBlazer has headlights that flicker between low and off when you don't want them to. Both her vehicle and my dad's Silverado have had the AC units replaced. Thanks for any help, and awesome trucks!

  • ohhhh good ol six five

  • i meant 6.5;s

  • i work on them for a living and can blow by tractor trailors uphill like theyre standing still with no problem hauling a load. dont tell me what i dunno man. you dont have a damn clue what you can do to them engines cheap to make them run top notch. theyre the best and longest lasting engines out there amongst for and dodge and ford. its all in the owner and how theyre maintained and chipped

  • great vid, love the crankin and cold slow start :)

  • i would suggest gettin some additives.....

  • hey i got some questions.. i have a 1994 chevy 6.5 turbo diesel on cold starts it starts right up but blows blue smoke, when it warms up to about 170 degrees then i dont get as much blue smoke, when im driving it i still get a little bit, would you know anything about why its blowing blue smoke..? and what is the average gas miles you get off your 6.5?

  • @fmx4life1011, The "blue" smoke at start up is usually the motor over fueling, not a concern but once it warms it should stop. I have no clue what my mileage is, I know with the spray rig (28 foot goose neck trailer) on I get 300 or so KM's to a full tank of fuel and 2 quarts of motor oil.

  • Here I thought my old Jimmy 6.5 was alone in the world. Damn it is good to know I am not the only sucker out there. My POS won't even touch my 5.9 Cumins for power or fuel mileage. But SMOKE? The GM wins hands down oh ya and being a bitch to start. I live in Northern Ontario where summer constitutes three weeks of soft ice.

  • My just was like that before I replaced the Glow plug relay and the Battery cables and Batteries. After that starts No matter how cold it gets or how long it sits.

  • wouldnt have that problem if you swapped in a cummins

  • i wish i could click the like button X1000 lol sweet truck

  • nice truck man, liking the stacks. come check out my Z71

  • cool, great, solid truck man. i wouldnt do anything else to this truck. Perfect. where did you get that decal on the back tailgate. i want that. i have a 95 6.5 diesel too. help me out if you can.

  • oh and i agree with you on that asshole that wrote on one of the first comments. i think he should grow the hell up and do a little more research on them trucks and engines before he speaks. they may not have a great pile of hp or torque stock but theyre a hell of a lot better than a dodge or ford in cold weather and the most dependable. if he is a mechanic he doesnt have a damn clue to speak

  • well first of all man i love that truck especially the stacks. i drive one a 2000 gmc3500 hd and i used to have that problem with it starting in -20 windchill or colder and my advice to you because i work on it myself and all you need is a set of glow plugs. the one i drove always started exactly like that and once we put a new set of glow plugs in it EG/ yesterday morning it was -38 windchill and you just cycled the glow plugs and when you they were done just rock the key and fired right up

  • 6.5 rocks man it's a cold start

  • Typical junk 6.5, Rip it out and put in a cummins!!!

  • i want that truck dude!

  • no glow plugs in that truck?

  • @CJO740 No it has them.

  • nice truck man

  • I bet your neighbors love you lol

  • @mpwelk First off ***hole, I do have my CDL and I do driver truck professionally. Second, nothing wrong my the stacks on my pickup, some like them some don't. You obviously don't. Third... Those not so "giant" letters on the tailgate kind of replace the stock CHEVROLET emblem that some chevys have on the tailgate. Just my advice... stfu when you don't know me.

  • @Camscape i think those "GIANT" leeters look pretty damn sick, beautiful truck

  • @Camscape you tell him man. that truck is awesome other than you need either the wiring fixed for the glow plugs or replace the glow plugs. them 6.4's out do the strokers or power jack offs that ford makes. theyre junk. gm made the right decision by going with detriot and theyre the best running engine yet in history. i drive a tow truck with a 6.5 turbo in it and im passing tractor trailors uphill and not having a problem with a bull dog low 5 speed std. they will out last any duramax

  • @Camscape heres what i dont get....... so you drive semi... meaning you deal with straight 6 big bore diesels everyday and you are the one to tame the power of those engines........................ and yet you turn around and buy one of these absolutely worthless engines...... PLEASE TELL ME WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?

  • @Snickmorder What you have failed to realize is that I've had my pickup for almost five years now, I've only been driving semi for a year and a half.

  • @Camscape Christ people are so quick to judge aren't they?

  • @Camscape Sick truck.. like the angles of the stacks.

  • @mpwelk why dont you quit hating and get a life? just because you dont like it dosnt mean shit. why do people like you deliberately find videos and complain about them, way to be a homo!

  • @mpwelk

I think that lettering on the tailgate is pretty cool actually.

  • @mpwelk let people who they wanna be damn

  • @mpwelk ill give you a silly stack in your ass! and you probably pay mexicans to choke you in the shower while you touch yourself

  • what part of ohio you from?

  • @1bgdwg eastern side... east of canton

  • @Camscape No shit? I'm from Youngstown.

  • @Camscape I thought this was really neat because for an art project last year I used a picture of your truck for it... then I found out you were from Ohio as well! I'm from Canfield, 20 minutes sound of ytown.

  • @braaup and I'm 20 minutes from canfield :P

  • @Camscape What was really cool is in art class I just hopped on the computer and looked through pics on google images.. and found yours. wild.

  • the heck with that ... Chuck Norris would have just " kick started " it ....

  • damn people must love me. BUY A FORD.

  • @thecandyman315 it's the detroits that are like that when this truck came off the line they didn't have duramax then. Trust me I know my dad work on the line for gm

  • cool vid: great cranking, great smoke :)

  • What kind of fuel economy do you get with the 6.5. I want a chevy or GMC with this motor. YOu know, I want to learn more about diesels, and the best way to learn about them is to own one!

  • Comment removed

  • @Motorfordtoyota

17-18 with 3:73 rear end, 17-24 with 3:42 rear end, 10-15 with 4:10 rear end varies on overall health of engine and mods done to it. w-w-w thetruckstop.us is another place to learn about the 6.5 save you from some hard expensive lessons

  • good motor, bad thing bout them is they have aluminum pistons and piston shafts and aluminum heads melt reall easily

  • @lpbulldogs1 That is the Duramax not the AM General GM or Detroit 6.2 and 6.5L engines

  • @lpbulldogs1

Nope the 6.2 & 6.5 has cast Iron heads, most all Diesels have aluminum pistons, many have coatings that help dissipate the heat, the 6.5 is an indirect injected engine so the "flame-front" is in the pre-cup and not directly on top of the piston as in a direct injected engine

  • Where did you get that 6.5 diesel Turbo for your Tailgate.? I got the stickers for my doors, but I want a big one like that.

    Thanks.

  • @kakapillow3

A really cool emblem IMO is the chrome 6.5 turbo Diesel badge that used to be on the H1s, many folks don't know the 6.2 & 6.5 is used in the Hummer Military & Civilian models Hummer dealers can supply these badges.

  • my window has the same sound.

  • Okay, I'm blind, so you'll have to excuse my stupidity. lol How old is this truck, and what kind is it? Also, I have to tell you it sounds awesome! I'm trying to find a truck with the same engine.

  • geez, after sitting all winter (in below -40* weather) with summer fuel in it, my brothers truck started in the spring (still below freezing) no problem. lol

  • give it some gas man

  • Damn man I love the old 6.5s

I really want to put one in my 2dr tahoe, but it will be alot of money and work :/

  • i have the same engine in my 95 cheyenne and i am having an intermittint starting problem!!! sometimes the ignition wont light up all the way, turn key on and no cluster warning lights, no glow plug light, and volt meter stays put, at night u can barely see the check guages and battery light! i dont get it now its stranded!!!

  • Nice truck man!

  • sounded like a great cold start. didnt sound like anything was wrong with it, or maybe i lie a little.

  • mine would do something similar. i had to do the fuel injection pump, its common on the 6.5s. and thats a pretty penny to replace that let me tell you. the pump will run about $1000.

  • @forrest17289 Except I can probably get a pump for less then half that. =). Also it wasn't the IP, it was a battery drain.

  • @forrest17289 99% of the time a IP is incorrectly diagnosed as being bad, when in reality it is the PMD Pump Mounted Driver that controls the fuel from the IP that is bad. it is unfortunate you did not know this as it would have been 1/4 to 1/2 what you paid to repair it. If you still have your 6.5 join us @ w-w-w the truckstop.us we live eat breathe 6.5s

  • looks like it didnt fail to start to me it did start after a minute or idk maybe a shot of either later couldnt tell ya but somthens not right

  • shit..come on diesel

  • your right. cuz you don't work on them for a living or anything.

  • @hanratty450 Just because you work on them for living, doesn't mean you know much about them. Anybody who works on anything for a living thinks the main vehicle they work on is shit because they only see the problem vehicles ;).

  • @Camscape

    Agreed...

  • @hanratty450 I work on rigs like this every day and they're great.... just DON'T USE ETHER TO START 'EM! The 6.5 has a great lubrication system (the non-turbo Fords of the same year had valvetrain lubrication issues above 2,000 RPM), the cooling system will keep it cool in 100degree heat, and the transmissions will go for 250,000+ miles! What's your malfunction, Private Pyle?

  • @joedrummer2010

    X2 NO ETHER

  • Comment removed

  • 6.5l is shit. how many turbos have you went threw. and how many times have you had to rebuild the motor. dude i am telling you there shit, strong as hell but other than that there shit. good luck

  • @hanratty450 If they are strong how are they shit? If they are strong why do you have to rebuild everything? I've had my truck over three years and haven't had anything major go wrong so far. I haven't touched my turbo, only time I'll have to touch that is when I upgrade it. Only reason to rebuild is if you snapped a crank, burned a hole through piston, or overheated (headgasket issues). All of the events that I explained are caused from not doing proper maintenance.

  • @hanratty450 Yeah dude Cam knows what he is talking about. These motors are pretty rock solid. I rebuilt my motor because it had a shitload of hours on it and a small coolant leak that turned my oil into jello and seized the motor up on the highway. I drove it over 3,000 miles with it leaking coolant cause of school but even after it seized it still would crank just not start. Really you need to beat the shit out of these motors to destroy them. Plus 6.5s get good MPGS =p

  • @hanratty450

Oh Contra-ire my friend, to the un-educated they are problematic, to those of us that know them well, the 6.5 is the best kept secret in Diesel Power, the uneducated hate for them makes them inexpensive to own, all Diesels have issues VW TDIs, Dmax, Stroke, Cummins all have own issues, I work on them directly or indirectly via web help on a daily basis, each has it's merits-issues for more info check out w-w-w thetruckstop.us

  • @hanratty450 they are shit i have one in my 92 silverado 270 k original motor original turbo.. just did pump and injector like 10k ago still runs like champ

  • Starter's kinda slow spinning by the sound of it. That's a shit load of smoke too. I think you were lucky if 1/2 your glows were working in this vid.

  • make your self a carsine injection where the carsine goes in the intake. it will start better in the winter

  • @jdshaq Kerosene?? the truck will run it strait. Kerosene is usually used in the winter because it has a lower gel point.

  • @TheCandyman315

No on straight Kero, yes it will run but no lubricity in Kero for the innards of the IP, you can blend kero with NR2 but you need to put in an additive especially now that the ULSD is all you can get at the pump.

  • Fuel prolly gelled. its happened to me before.

  • Do you got the thing floored when your trying this?

  • yo greenmachine where did you get your bumper? I want the same one you have for my 98classic =p

    Thanks man

  • The bumper was already on the truck when i bought it in '07. I was looking online for the bumper and have yet to find one lol.

  • holey shit i let my truck sit for a week with bellow frezzeing weather and she fires right up still on factorey plugs and injectors with 305k on the clock.

  • Yikes, do you still have the factory glows in there?

  • No, they are 60Gs, I have to make sure that they are all getting power though. My guess is that only half the glows are working, have to check tomorrow... supposed to be a little warmer and no rain lol. Also might check my fuel system out too.

  • jeeze my 6.2 started better when it was colder out.
