@willik3025 Those numbers are at the crank. Those numbers are higher than what it will put down at the wheels. That horsepower number (at the crank, which the factory rates it at) has NOT passed through the driveline yet. I hope this helps you realize that they do not put down 260 horsepower at the wheels from the factory.
@Broncofivepointslow what are you talking about? these years came with 2 types of trans (exception being cobra's), 4 speed auto, and 5 speed manual. i was referring to the 5speed manual being 235ish to the wheels stock, and with an auto (4 speed) a tad less. that's why i put the comma between 5spd and auto, to differentiate.
people that post a video without any description, SERIOUSLY tick me off. Yeah your car sounds sick, but who gives a fu*k if you don't share any info on the setup?!
Sounds gorgeous. What is your exhaust setup and what cams? I have LTs, O/R H, and standard Maganflow CB. Made 270 on the dyno, hoping to hit 300 with stage 2 cams. Deciding between the Comp 270s and HiTech.
no it wont, the cubes soften the hit of the cams. 5.4's have a lot more PTV clearance than 4.6's though, so you can run a lot more intake duration on a tight center than a Mustang can. The pistons sit way farther down the hole on the 5.4 than the 4.6... Like .12" vs .012"
wow bro i dont think that was me who wrote that unless i was cracked out on some bad shyt cause i completely disagree on its not the design its the displacement
well with out any tune, the car will run like shit with the cams. you need to tune the computer so it can run with the new durations. a dyno tune allows the tunner to squeez every last HP he/she can from the car by tweaking air, fuel, timing ect.
dont you all know ford 4.6 two valve has a hard time with ported heads cams and intake with bolt ons have a hard time makeing 300hp its not the design its the displacement
Its the design not the displacement, You can stroke a 4.6 to the displacement of a 302 but motor for motor the pushrod motor is gonna make more power as long as both motors are naturally aspirated. Mod motors(4.6) respond well to forced induction, and not so well to motor mods
That makes no sense, "it's not the design it's the displacement" .. if that were true, then why does the four valve have the exact same displacement and with equal boltons will kill a 2valve? Because the design is superior. It's not the displacement.
In the case of the 4.6 it is the design. The heads are nearly worthless in stock form. Ported they are ok at best. Ford should have flipped the exhaust valve to the opposite side of the cam like they did on the 3V and kept the 2v head. I'm sure they would have picked up at least 25-30% more flow.
tjm73...that is not true. the 2v heads are very decent as far as stock heads go. part of the reason that aftermarket 4.6 heads and related components are SO expensive is partly because they are pretty complicated, but partly because you dont gain THAT much when you weigh out cost vs gain.
2v heads are decent? are you fucking serious? no offense dude lol but when you can barely make 300 RWHP with full bolt ons AND cams..theres something wrong..and it is the heads because look at the 3v and 4v...they can easily see 350-375 rwhp NA...amd with 10 lbs of boost on a 2v you will see..what 380 at the wheels? on a 4v thats like 420 man.
The Twisted Wedge Street/Strip heads for 1999-2004 PI engines have 38cc combustion chambers and deliver approximately 10:1 compression on a stock short block. Heads for 1996-98 non-PI short blocks have 44cc combustion chambers and also deliver about 10:1 compression.
I'd seriously hope that with 10 lbs of boost on the 4v you could make a measly 40 hp more than the 2v considering the 4v has 2X the cams and valves allowing ALOT better airflow and higher revving.
1st off the best head to use is a 2v found in a 98 svo...stock heads can make good hp, but porting (LIKE ANY OTHER HEAD) greatly inproves efficiency. it wasnt the exhaust valve moved, the intake valve was moved. if you dont already know, trickflow now makes a head for the modular 4.6l and 5.4l, the intake valve on the opposite side, like the 3v head. quit bashing on the mod engine when you dont know wtf it is your talking about
Sweet. I've never done much with the modular motors, but my friend has a 02 GT he wants me to help him build up a bit. Too bad you don't know which cam it was, but do you have any 1/4 mile times in it? He wants to keep up with my car, which runs mid 13s. I'm thinkin' 300 rwhp won't do it unless he puts his car on weight watchers.
@brandonh06 that doesnt sound liek much i have a 2000 galant v6 making 200 stock with a chip intake and exhaust its like 220 i mean yea you have like 80 hp more but i have a v6 and probally less weight and bigger suspen
idk 300 just doesnt seem much from a mustang
im not a ricer i have a 04 mach 1 too the galant was my first car i could get rid of it yet
Sucks seeing LS1s put that down stock, and thats on the low side. Also, why the fuck do people buy non exotic cars in yellow. Are you an aspiring taxi driver?
@brandonh06 cams and full bolt ons/exhaust give a 2v about 300 to the wheels. throw on heads and you got 340-360 to the wheels. 440 crank HP dont know where that dude came up with 250. backyard harry's school of horsepower calculation?
@modded01stang please show me a 99-04 thats got 260 RWHP I have messed with more than a few and have yet to see that. Last one we modded has patriot stage 2 heads and cams with full boltons and it put down 277.8 thought the 5spd tranny. Dont speak of me being ignorant you hgave no idea what all I have done
@Screamer2440 Engine Type SOHC 16-valve 4.6 Liter V8 w/SMFI* Engine Size 281 cid/4601 cc Horsepower 260 @ 5250 RPM Torque (lb-ft) 302 @ 4000 RPM By 1999, Ford had time to massage the 4.6 with coil-on-plug ignition, performance camshafts, a high-flow intake manifold, revised combustion chambers and larger valves to produce 260 horsepower and 302 pound-feet of torque. Courtesy of theautochannel
@modded01stang thats at the flywheel tard everyone on here has been talkin rear wheel hp. I know what they make flywheel but thats not the same as whats put to the ground. Enjoy!
@Screamer2440 If you had a heads/cams/boltons PI 2v only put down 277.8 you must have had a retarded tuner. I made 258.xx WHP on boltons and 291.x after adding cams on a completely horrid tune (tuning shop was clueless, bad A/F ratio etc).
@testy462 hey it is what it is thats what the dyno said on that day my mods were as follows Patriot Stage 2 heads, patriot cams, BBK throttle body, elbow, underdrive pullies, 24lb injectors, BBK shorty equal length headers with off road x-pipe with dynomax exhaust, BBK full length CAI, Probe forgd pistons with forged H-Beam rods all running through the Tremec 3650 5spd tranny. My tuner was Mark Bittle with panhandle performance he's done a ton of these cars by a ton I mean 100's of 99-04 stangs
@Screamer2440 Are you sure the heads were on there? Either way you got royally screwed, and I mean bad.
Numbers are WAYYYY off unless your running it on something like a mustang dyno which reads lower, and even then its still low from a typical GT. H/C/boltons should come out to around 310WHP~ if not a tad more, and with a set of pistons that I assume are bumping up the compression 320 or more. 2v cars, with decent heads (read: not patriot) have gone as high as mid 350's on dynojets
@AOSUPERMOTO Dude if you think a stock 99-04 4.6 GT puts down 260 to the wheels your retarted, or either your dyno guy is new at it. Nmbers can be inflated in many ways!
I'm tell you that your wrong dumbass, these cars have 260 FLYWHEEL horsepower theres a big difference from what a car makes at flywheel to what it puts down to the ground. 260RWHP would be in the neighrborhood of 300-320 flywheel hp.
sounds like my car, sounds faster than it really is, i ran out of bolt ons for mine and narrowed my search down to a vortech t trim just so it would work with the other bolt ons such as t. body, plenum, intake.....it takes some cash to get these things to move
that is honestly one of the best sounding 4.6s ive ever heard. imagine if it had a really nasty exhuast on it like a slp loudmouth or something. im getting hard thinking about it.
it depends on how big of a cam you put in. If you put a stage 1 cam then you don't have to change anything. If you put stage 2 then you need to change out your valve springs.
so you only gained 33 horse and no torque. that seems a little off. But, BTW how much did that all cost if you dont mind me asking. Cause i got a stock 99 GT, and i love the way your's sounds.
well i bought the car back in december and it had the long tube headers, bassani x-pipe, single chamber flowmasters, CAI, Accufab 75mm TB and Plenum and the steeda pulleys already done to it..so i dunno how much those ran the guy before me. But i bought the Cams as a kit with everything off a guy on stangnet for around 465.00 and its an 800.00 kit too. the 3.73 gear was 189.00. the tune was around 218.00 for 1hr and 45mins. the sct Xcal 2 tuner was around 379.00.

Hey man... i know this might be a stupid question but... what do u have to do to a 4.6 like yours to make it ready for cams??? thanks
slashfan23 4 years ago
it depends on how big of a cam you put in. If you put a stage 1 cam then you don't have to change anything. If you put stage 2 then you need to change out your valve springs.

not really, it depends on the company. some stage 2's dont need new springs.

How much of a power gain did you get after installing all of the mods?
99mustangvt3 4 years ago
i have 293HP / 301 FT/LB
brandonh06 4 years ago
so you only gained 33 horse and no torque. that seems a little off.

Thanks. Love the sound. But, Im guessing that the stuff the previous owner had already installed ran him a good $1000-$1500 range.
