Saw this at a DRIVE IN theater. My favourite Bond theme, and I am a huge McCartney fan forever. Live and Let Die maybe a tie or a close second followed by Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger"
I love ALL the Bond themes. They remind me of a simpler life when not everything wasn't "in your face". The Bond movies from the '60's especially so as they were a form of escapism. Thanks to all who post these clips/tracks.
Reminds me of when I was a little boy. We used to go from NW Indiana to Chicago, my folks and I, to watch James Bond movies. I was only aroud 7 or 8 yrs old I think. My dad (RIP) was a Bond nut. These were the good Bond movies when MGM took them seriously. Not the silly stuff of Roger Moore.
best day of my life? I was sitting on my room just browsing the web etc etc, suddenly a distant song appeared from the livingroom, it was this song, I entered the livingroom finding out that the movie just had started
The most beautiful film theme in the history of cinema composed by the legendary John Barry who will not be forgotten-the music will live on-R.I.P John.
Get the book called "THE BOND CODE" , The Dark World of Ian Fleming and James Bond. It's an Excellent book, and gives alot of insight to the Hidden Symbolism in the James Bond movies.. Ian Fleming was a Genius
Correction: This is almost the hit version. This is the one that's played on the oldies stations with a discernable edit during the orchestra instrumental section towards
Thank you. Beautiful Graphic's and a wonderful song as original and crisp as the day it was written and sung. A very nice tune for a great James Bond Movie. Thanks again for posting ti !
There we were..a packed Movie theatre..the two of us all of 18 years old hormones out of control ..literally reeking of Jade East Cologne..and watching these absolutely stunning Japanese women...I dare not continue..!
Slightly different from the movie version, this radio version uses vocal harmonies,double-tracking and a more varied orchestral accompaniment. The only thing wrong with this movie was nothing,if only Dr. No would have stuck to the book version until the end, that way this movie wouldn't have repeated the space flight .WW3 scenario for a 2nd time, and would have ended up being a fresh new plot, instead of a repeat.
Where would these films have been without John Barry? He had so much to do with more than just the James Bond Theme! They should've done a special tribute to him at the Grammy Awards this year. He certainly deserves it.
@TheZauer Did he compose more of the music for the movie? There's a glaring disconnect in the music track; on the one hand are the classic Bond music tracks for assorted moments of tension or fight scenes, chase scenes and such; but on the other hand, there's this other hefty portion including Japanese instruments and orchestral variations on the title song theme that have so much more depth. I watch this a couple times a year just to enjoy the orchestration.
I like and respect both versions of the song for what they are. The more subdued, sweetness of what you hear in the film's intro and then the 'big', magical dream-like feel this version gives. I must confess, I do much prefer this version. It's mesmerizing. Shame the instrumentation was snipped out around the 1:47 mark.
For those born in Generation Y (like me) and wondered where they may have heard the hook of this song from, it is sampled by Robbie Williams in his song "Millenium".
This the best version of this song I've ever heard, it's lighty different from the one on the soundtrack. Can someone please tell me if it's available on cd or a downlad? Thank you for posting this version. Howie
Like so many Bond openings, the video was ahead of its time, the music is a timeless classic, and it embodies the Bond spirit of danger and exotic places and women.
I watched the Bond film, "You Only Live Twice" the other night for the first time in many many years. I was immediately impressed by Nancy Sinatra. Many great singers from Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, and Nancy Wilson all did the themes from Bond films in that era, but they certainly have nothing on Nancy Sinatra in terms of song styling and phrasing. This has to be my favorite Nancy Sinatra song. Just fantastic!
This movie and song as well as "From Russia With Love" and its song by Matt Monro are the two Bond movies and theme songs I like the most.
I have been watching Bond sice Dr. NO and I rate the earlier Bond movies as somewhat better than the later ones.
That is not to say that others are not good, but I had a preference for Sean Connery's Bond. The latest Bond, Craig is good too, but he lacks the dry British sense of humor displayed by Connery..
@05tonytin be that as it may matey, many of us have this song deep in our psyche, and I for one will have it played at my funeral....whenever that may be..and the lyrics are ageless.
in your opinion....pls dont judge things of the past if you didsnt live back them to see what a huge impact this movie made onn millions of people regardless of race.
Nancy was greatly under-rated , plus she was a babe+++ , wth a feminine carriage and a supertight body. Her performance in You only live Twice was, and still is, unforgetable. Makes me cry. Though this particular upload is damaged or incorrectly copied, no matter....God Bless her.
I get so pissed off when they say nancy and liza got a foot in the door. THEY WORKED THEIR PRETTY LITTLE ASSES OFF. They EARNED IT ALL!!! HATS OFF TO SECOND GENERATION!
Last night saw "DR.NO" on one of the Dish Network channels.
I had seen it in 1962 and never again until last night.
It brought back good memories. Loved to watch a younger Sean Connery and a beautifull Ursula Andress...Ursula Undress as at the time I used to call that beautiful woman !
I still love to watch Bond movies. I have been doing that for over 40 yeras now... The best are with Sean Connery indeed, although the latest Bond is also good..
In all movies the blend of great songs and artistic visual effects make the opening part of each film very appealing. This song in particular I find it probably the best of them all -- very exotic song adn lyrics indeed -- at par with "From Russia With Love'.
Always loved the Bond intro songs - both the music and the visuals. I must admit, however, Duran Duran was not my favourite, but I do like the new Bonds
Great, Great Video, probably Nancy Sinatra's finest performance. Goes back to the Vietnam era where a lot of our "Brothers in Arms" never had the opportunity to even "Live Once".
Nancy Sinatra's voice was so perfect for the era. One of my favorite Bond themes, even if the movie paled by comparison to some of the earlier chapters. I always thought Connery was the best Bond.
This recording, with Nancy overdubbed, is a disappointment, frankly terrible. Search for "007 You Only Live Twice(1967) - Title Song" for the real deal.
@sormu16 Certainly agree with you there, this version is absolutely terrible. Abrasive and unpleasant, it's nothing compared to the soothing, lilting theatrical version.
Imagine my disappointment when I bought Themeology by John Barry, and there was only an INSTRUMENTAL version of this song! Okay, there are 21 killer songs on the album, but this was the main reason I bought it. Guess I'll have to buy the whole soundtrack (:
I'm sixteen and I grew up watching all the James Bond films. In my opinion, the ones with Sean Connery were easily the best, and I think it's safe to say that "You Only Live Twice" is my favourite of all the Bond films - and the fact that Roald Dahl wrote the screen play makes it even better!
I count myself as lucky to have been able to enjoy these "real Bond movies" and their incredible opening themes as a teen and young adult. This one and Tom Jones's Thunderball are my favorites.
The opening of "You only live twice" is visually terrific, like most Bond movie openings. But, albeit Bond movie themes are generally good, Nancy Sinatra's song tops them all: it's GORGEOUS!

One life for yourself and one for your dreams.
You drift through the years and life seems tame,
Till one dream appears and love is its name.
And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on,
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone.
This dream is for you, so pay the price.
Make one dream come true, you only live twice.
And love is a stranger who'll beckon you on,
Don't think of the danger or the stranger is gone.

Where are all those Jappy "ching cha ching ching" xylophone sounds?! That's what made this song great! FAIL!, as the kiddies say!
