I absolutely love this film! Just watched it the other day and I could not stop crying! Audrey Hepburn and Shirley are both amazing as Karen and Martha. Strongly recommended.
It's about a lie that is spread about two women implying that the two are lovers. People start to treat them differently and it turns out that the "lie" may have some truth behind it. You really need to watch the movie or see the play to get the full effect.
People are amazed that the film was ahead of its time in the 60s- when the play it was adapted from was written nearly 30 years earlier.
I've been studying Homosexuality on the Silver Screen, and until the code, it was quite common, and even occasionally sympathised with. Things changed of course, with that darn code.
But nonetheless, this film, since I saw it a week ago, has become possibly my fave film, because its my life too.
They wouldn't be re-doing this same film. It would be totally new. If all re-makes and further adaptions of other films had been forgone for fear of nto meeting an earlier standard, we wouldn't have films like Titanic, or Scarface- two of Cinematic Histories most succesful films of all time.
Ziggy: "...Also, I think Shirley looks like Michelle Williams"
Oooh, she would be an awesome Martha in a re-make!
Maybe reunite her with her Brokeback costar and have Anne Hathaway play Karen? It would be interesting to see how much more open the story could be now...
audrey hepburn is simply gorgeous TRULY but I must say she is has a slightly starved look about her. I know she never gained all her weight back from the war, but she is just soooo skinny.
This is my favourite film of all time(way ahaed of its time). I saw it for the first time 4 years ago and it depressed me for a whole week...great job with the vidoe/song..you really capture the moving and sesitive nature of the film.
I saw this movie again on cable today. I cried at the end again. One thing I liked Audrey Hepburn's character did not care if Martha was gay or not she still wanted to live and work with her and she did not want to be involved again with her fiance. Her attitude later for him!
This video/song so touches me as I sit here trembling in my own discomfort, and emptiness as I ache for my love, the other half of oneself, which I've been stripped of in a blink of an eye. Kristin GBFS always and forever.
I was hoping perhaps you might do another one of these with Fix You, by Coldplay over it ? :D You did such a wonderful job on this one. Any chance you could fulfill my request ?
This video is perfect. Excellent song choice (almost sounded like it had been written ABOUT the film) and brilliant editing. I definitely agree with lauracrazygirl, it captures the very essence of the film. Well done!
WOW. this song is incredibly perfect for this film. excellent job.

Great work. Both women are gorgeous and I think that MacLaine looked a lot like Renee Zelwegger back then, no?

This story deserves another interpretation.
Based now.

I didn't say homosexuality was accepted, I said that it was represented/

I dont know about another adaption. These two did such a superb job, I'd be afraid that modern actors might mess it up.
