I find using a jig head with a minnow (salted hold together better and last longer) and a stinger hook through the tail works great. Set it on a rock with little movements to simulate a minnow feeding. If you use a woven line you can feel it scraping on the rocks which makes it easier to prevent it from getting hooked in the rocks.
damn that must be frustrating seeing them attack your hali and not the maggot/waxworm, i also have a camera and it frustrates the hell out of me seeing them look at it and leave lol
Sure, fish near structure like the edges of weed beds or along changes in lake depth (drop-offs). In weedy flats find holes or pockets with no weeds and fish the perimeter. Use live minnows on tip-ups and maggots on small jigs.
Our perch only get up to 2 lbs so 4-6 is strong enough for me. With small lures light line is best for action because its more flexible, also they won't see it. If you hook into a bigger fish you can still land it, as long as your drag isn't too tight. I do use 8lb test on my larger set up with heavy lures.
but there is no snow in my country(singapore)so there is no ice fishing..mostly fishes that caught here is..bass,queenfish,stingray,shovelnose shark and puffers..the smallest i noe is this silvery fish..its size is as long as an adult finger and very thin..i have been using handline and not reel to catch bass and stingrays. So i bought a reel reccommeded by experts which is the shimano reel and i bought the small 1..and im up to catching bass and rays so what kind of lbs should i use?4-6 to thin
salt-water ... 25 lb. or more, ask who sold you the reel, it should say on the side of the spool what sizes the manufacturer suggests, if there's 3 sizes go with the middle
you dont use that spoon from the beginning any more do you?...they kept biting at the spoon instead of the hook i wont be using those...cool vid...nice perch!
Sure I still use it, its a great lure. That school may have been feeding on baitfish so maybe that's why they were hitting the spoon and not the maggot.
interesting. i went this morning to a local church pond. i was using waxworms on a small jighead. I did ok, caught some fish but they were all small. One decent largemouth only about a pound but not bad for my first time ice fishing

what kind of line should I use? I hear around 25 pound test for pike, and what should I use for a leader?
THExGOODxLIFE310 3 years ago
