using tarp on your pillars will cause them to rot faster. when it rains the tarps will fill up with water and the ground won't be able to wick away the moisture. i think yu'll find that after the ground dries your pillars will still be wet
thought about using live trees as an interior and exterior "anchors" if you will, but then i remembered that trees do one thing very well... grow. so for a permanent residence or anything you plan on using for years, don't think the use of living trees would be a common sense idea, that is unless you want what you built to fall apart.
just an idea with the double walls fill in-between them with dirt or leaves it will seal any glitches in your walls and also insulate them dirt would be a better insulator but more likely to fall out of the holes but you could do a mix of both or depending on your local soil find clay and mix it with leaves and grass
