Crikey! That's a blast from the past. Never did I think I'd hear that sound again! Most ST owners got to play Rana Rama at some stage because it was shipped as standard with many new STs. Used to love playing this as a kid! Memories. . .

I tried to play through this game on the ST, using an emulator and savestates though. when you die your life spell gets reset to 1 (mortal), though your other spells do not, usually resulting in accidental suicide by firing your attack spell too often. what I found out was that the game loops after level 8, colors change, and monster get harder. If you manage to defeat all warlocks on all the 8 first levels, you get two "bonus" dungeons (which are hard as hell) before game loops into "hard mode"

@alphabetaxenonzzzcat I tried finishing it the other day. The worlds change slightly every time. Only by the amount of enemies and colour though. I did it 3 times then died. I am unemployed.

Haha. Fantastic. I've still gotmy Atari ST I played as a kid in the loft somewhere. I tried to find a decent emulator online but it didn't seem to work.

WOW! I searched for this intro a couple of years ago but eventually gave up.

I used to boot this game just to listen to the theme, since the game itself hung on my ST when trying to play it.

Ohhh, good times - I used to play this for hours on end. Hd it on Amstrad, 8 levels per dungeons. Remember being so excited to finally get to the end of the last dungeon and see what happened - it just starts over in a different colour. Does anyone know if it EVER ends, does the frog ever get changed back in to a person?!

Its been 20 years since I played this, but I did finish all 10 levels on the Atari ST. The game then started again at level 1, although the dungeon was harder and a different/layout colour...can't recall much else.

Fab!!! I only have the spectrum version now and the intro is poorer quality and doesn't have monster expo. Thanks for uploading that.:) Btw has anyone ever completed the game? Ie all 8 dungeeons with 8 levels each? If so, can you tell mee what happens? Pleeeeeaze?? I've only got as far as dungeon 5, and generally it crashes well before then, dammit.

On the ST version there's 10 dungeons, I managed to get to the ninth dungeon a few times but I always died.

good grief, ten! Wow. Aaargh, though. Speccy version only has eight and I have a feeling I'm going to have to get an infinite lives cheat or something. Must... find... out... what... happens! It's haunted me since I was 7.

The aim of the game was to defeat all the warlocks on the level you were on by touching them and then solving the puzzle. The puzzle was you had to rearrange the letters on the puzzle to read Rana Rama, of course as the levels progressed you'd get less time to do that and the letters would be more jumbled. The warlocks then dropped runes, runes that you used to cast the spells that you need to defeat the warlock minions so that you could to the warlocks.

One of the best games ever made in my opinion. It is worth getting hold of an ST just to play this game. It really is that addictive.
