There's a scary face hovering over top of Page at 2:00/2:01! If you look closely, you can see the eyes, and the mouth with the bared teeth is right about the neighborhood of cheek-level to him! Off to the left.
No, really, do you see it? It's black like the background but just a lighter black. You can see the left eye really well. Maybe that's all you can see. But I see all the other stuff, too. Pretty creepy!
Page sure is a monster-talent, though! He really stands out in this band.
To all concerned there is a studio version of "Dazed and Confused" I have it on "Cumular Limit"- Yardbirds CD! THIS CONTAINS MOST OF THE YARDBIRDS SPRING '68 RECORDING SESSION! This also contained "As Long As I Have You" Equals "Tangerine" but this unfortunately was pulled from CD by Jim McCarty & Chris Dreja! Still catering to Page and his FEARS that this intended Album sounds like the first 4 lps from Led Zeppelin in one as here's an EXCELLENT record that would DEFINETLY been for history! OUCH
@AEDC49 Thanks for the post, but I must correct you concerning
Cumular Limits, the track Dazed and Confused is NOT a studio version, but is a LIVE performance from France 1968, at the Baton Rouge show, you can find this performance on YT. But thanks for the post anyay!
As much as i love and they are one of my Led Zeppelin i do like the yardbirds version of the song better mainly because it is more similar to the original, and jimmy page finally has what is coming to him for stealing the song! Jake Holmes is sueing for COpyright Infringement!!!
The Yardbirds with original members Jim McCarty & Chris Dreja on US Tour in 2010; May 21 Robert Parilla PAC Montgomery College Rockville MD; May 22 Chesapeake Blues Festival Annapolis MD; May 23 Tangiers Akron OH; May 25 Sellersville Theatre Sellersville PA; May 26 BB Kings New York NY; May 27 YMCA Boulton Center Bayshore NY; May 28 Showcase Live Foxbourgh MA; May 30 Remember The Music Remember The Heroes Festival Virginia Beach VA.
Led Zeppelin formed out of the ashes of The New Yardbirds out of the ashes of The Yardbirds... i wonder if they had the right to the music? anybody know
@jodgey4 ... Led Zeppelin (AKA "The New Yardbirds") had the rights to the Yardbirds material do to the fact that Jimmy was left with the name and Peter Grant was the Yardbirds manager before the Yardbirds broke up in 1968.
@StupidGoodProduction - Yes!!! The Yardbirds were true to JH's original version and meaning of being Dazed and Confused, especially the lyrics......unlike Zep.
@Yardbird68 Previous to 2001, Holmes had been unaware that the Yardbirds even covered it until receiving a copy of their Anderson Theatre performance.
"The Yardbirds' 'Dazed & Confused' is really good. I understand what 'garage' people see in all this craziness. I like their version much better than Led Zeppelin's," Holmes said.
@paintedship - yeah...thanks for included what Holmes himself said to interviewer Will Shade concerning his liking the Yardbird version over Zeps. I agree 110%!!!
Definitely like the Yardbirds' version....I agree also with yclept57's comment...especially about R.Plant, who I think has been greatly over estimated!!
The Yardbirds' take on "Dazed &Confused" certainly outshines Led Zeppelin's studio & live versions. Jim McCarty's drumming is much more fluid than John Bonham's, propelling the song along at breakneck speed, Keith Relf's frantic harmonica bleats on the tune is not matched by Robert Plant's hamster-with-its-ass-on-fire caterwauling. In the hands of the Yardbirds, the song is a psychedelic masterpiece, not the metal monstrosity that Led Zeppelin performed.
I am sure Percy Plant would love your analogy of his vocal "Hamster with it's ass on fire caterwauling". I always thought he was a bit precious.... Yardbirds+++++
Why doesn't Jimmy Page give you a hand?? Why is he so disinterested in putting together the best collection of Yardbird material during the time he was with the band?
so what happened? Jimmy went off and found Robert Plant to expand on what he was doing here or how did Led Zeppelin form? When was this with relation to Jimmys work on Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man?
This is pretty cool, when you listen to the original by jake holmes, the studio version by the yardbirds then the bbc version by the yardbireds you can really see how it developed into the well known zeppelin cover.
Actually the Yardbirds never did an "official" studio version of Dazed and Confused. This BBC
version is the closes thing to a studio version. Accoding to my knowledge, the YB would lay this track at the BBC studio first, then it was played at a later time for the radio shows. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I don't mind = )
Those are some rare photos!! Yeah, the sound is not great, but there is so little from that era, we have to cherish everything & just imagine how great it would have sounded & looked if we were there!!
Hey Yardbird68, great pictures, I've seen pictures that are similar to these, but are in black and white. I read in Greg Russo's book that they once played at a high school prom in Cincinnati, how lucky were those kids.
Don't sweat yourself about the sound quality, just imagine how cool this must have sounded coming through on an old speaker on a foreign overnight music show, circa 1968 This is a great companion piece to the French tv clip, too. I am a big fan of the Jimmy Page Yardbirds stuff. Thanks again for posting it.

I really can't see any differences between this version and the Led Zeppelin one. Page just changed the lyrics to avoid being sued.

Yeah, I also prefer the Yardbirds words over the Zep version. Which is basically the same as Jake Holmes original version.

Same here likewise.
Btw even though i had Led Zeppelin's House's of the holy and Physical Graffetti albums which i loved.
But
With the Dazed and Confused.
Ohhh my gosh.
Keith Reif sanged that, clearly with passion.
While Robert Plant annoys the hell out of
me with that screaming.
