  • I was on the ship when this happened. I was three people away from the camera guy. The rear wheel got stuck and the pilot freaked out. when the pilot gave more collective (power), the wheel snapped causing the 46 to crash and go over board. We (ship) could not reach the men inside quick enough. The 46 sank quickly due to the fact of the floatation safety devices not working. I lost two good friends that day. This is clearly, 100% accident.

  • I was an OS stationed on the Bonhomme Richard when this tragedy took place. I worked in CIC and will never forget this day. I was in the per-briefing with them, and all was going well up until this point. I will always remember their radio transmissions previous to this, and the radio transmissions from the bridge of the Pecos. Utter confusion and sadness in the aftermath. We searched for 12 hours straight after that, never finding anything. I think of and remember the deceased every day. RIP

  • my God ! RIP Semper Fidelis. same to the Navy personnel. very very sad.

  • OK NOW WHO THE HELL WAS RECORDING ME PLYING BF3???????!?!!!!!!!

  • I was on the bonhomme richard when this happened. I had been on it for a few months and remember watching this happen. Was off in the distance but still sad to watch.

  • @rachar124 First of all i am sorry for those who died on that day.İ am a wreck researcher.İ need information for my archive.Would you mind to answer my 2 questions=

1.Was the wreck of the helicopter later salvaged,or did they left it on the bottom of the sea after salvaging the bodies of the crew?

2.İf left, what is the conditions of the wreck?

  • that just sucks :(

  • Very sad tragedy. I'm sorry for the crew.

  • Six Marines and a Navy corpsman drowned. What the hell is wrong with some of you people. Were some of you born assholes or did you have to work on it.

  • SO wait there 18 PEOPLE in that HeliCOPTER??? WTF

  • @COMR2 1st Recon too, what a fucking way to go for those psycho-mother-fuckers.

  • @TheMrGreenwald rude man

  • @kbjohnso3 Do you even realize what 1st Recon is? 30 days ahead of the rest of the Marine Corps, cleaning up making things pretty for battalion. No reinforcements, no resupply, no medivac, crazy stuff. 1st Recon dieing in a helicopter wreck is kind of a harsh way to go for such an elite reconnaissance group.

  • Don't navy helicopters float? Sad lost of life :(

  • Fuck

  • @GTAIVPOLICE see what happens when parents let idiots play gta?

  • As A Marine I expected that i could be whacked as i hit a hot LZ or came off an Amtrak, but what is the worst part as the end comes in a simple training exercise. When your in one of these Birds our gunnery Sgt. always said, never panic until you see the co pilot jump out, he was trying to be funny. Back in the 80s this particular chopper had a habit of loosing hydraulics while in flight, alot of good men died in training. Now in hindsight Beirut. Iraq, War in General?

  • Awesome!

  • @frantic3110 how is this awesome people died..

  • @frantic3110

    Shut the fuck up, asshole.

  • why would 172 people like this unless you are a retard

  • Oh wow this is sad... Rest in peace to the victims:(

  • Marine Corps CH-46E.

  • They need to remodel that copter so if that happens theres a opening up top not the back

  • @EddieDaOnly1 *Slaps self in face* The top has the ROTORS on it. They would cut you in half.

  • @Cardinals525 You wouldnt even make it that far up! you would lose the top of your head!

  • @slowgold20 *Facepalms again*

  • Speachless. RIP Ssgt Dame. I just found out about this. Your were a great man and Marine.

  • I just read the story, and am wondering how the investigation went. I wonder what the repercussions are when it appears to have been complete lack of communication along with what I would assume is improper uniform codes for operation. As well as many other issues that have occurred. A sad day losing those men and I hope a lesson was learned in performing these types of training missions.

  • @GTAIVPOLICE

Im sure the families of the 7 that perished in that crash thought it was pretty fucking funny too...

  • OMG where they OK?

  • OVERBOARD! Someone is getting a less than honorable discharge

  • you all really dont have respect how could you think this is funny if it werent for the millatary we wouldnt be speaking english

  • @THEGOODGECKOGUY yes you would..

  • @KidVisualx3x

actually we wouldn't because if germany had defeated the U.S. and Great Britain during WW2 we would all be speaking German rather than English

  • @ChernovFan100 Britain would av ruled the world..

  • @GTAIVPOLICE this isnt funny

  • what a landing !!

  • err capt. i think we're too fast

  • wow epic fail the pilot sucks...

  • @charlesmansun The pilot isnt a retard... It got caught on netting. And who gives a shit about ur dumb freinds? These guys gave there lives for there country. So show some fucking respect.

  • @KidVisualx3x Their*

  • Did they die?

  • christ, sounds like someone's got a stick up his ass. what a douche

  • @charlesmansun Dang Charlie, I hope they leave you in prison.

  • R.I.P and thank you for your service. Oh and thats not a Seas King, thats a Chinook

  • @charlesmansun what do you mean by that?

  • Really sad, farewell heroes... Our best wishes from Brazil...

  • @SladeForelly Shut the fuck up, we don't care.

  • @MultiIPwnage Go to bed kid, tomorrow you got school.

  • Who are the fucking assholes who disliked this?

  • @redkillermango My guess, that charlesmansun fag.

  • @redkillermango Maybe some persons don´t like crashes???

  • @RcFelix1993 ok, we have different meanings one what hitting the dislike button means. im saying this is screwed up and hitting the dislike would be disrespectful, because this is a video you laugh at, this is more of a memorial type thing. we both mean the same thing.

  • @redkillermango Yes, I know what you are talking about...

  • i rode in these from '87-89. unbelievable sadness to see this knowing you or your buddies are dying. I couldnt even imagine how much confusion and terror that must of been. I was never afraid when doing this. But watching this video is very crazy. Very lucky any survived. "there is a lot worse things u can do than die for your country" -Chesty Puller........ RIP semper fi

  • thats why the airforce has air in its title!

  • @TimDesjordans That is about the dumbest thing wrote here yet. This is dangerous type flying that most pilots would rather not do. Landing on ship is not like landing on a runway that's 12,000 feet long and 300feet wide.

  • My friends' dad was in that helicopter accident, and did not make it out alive :( RIP

  • @SirDragonzz I'm so sorry.

  • @SirDragonzz So sorry to hear that. And please don't pay attention to any disrespectful comments made by people who just don't know any better than to be rude and thoughtless. I apologize for them.

  • It was a Marine helicopter..this happened in the 90's. So much miss-information on you-tube about the incident. Tragic all the way around.

  • Man, that was very sad to watch (and to read about) A BIG respect to those who proudly and bravely serve. RIP

  • how many casualties were there ? i thought they would have survived this kind of crash!

  • @TheDanceofjoy

Read the description, it sunk fast and the safety equipment failed and seven drowned.

  • @TheDanceofjoy very hard to survive this. Mass confusion and darkness. I remember going thru "water training" for this very thing. Didnt take it too serious at the time. Rode in the back of these helos for years. Cant even imagine what i would do. JUST DONT PANIC. One time we were fast roping onto the deck and i was done and running for the hatch. My friend tapped me on the shoulder and said "look"... my other friend was hanging on the rope over the ocean!!!!! The helo drifted back over the ship

  • You can see the copilot trying to get the fuck out of there, he knew he was in deep shit as soon as it started turning

  • he came in way too hot

  • why the fuck are there 158 likes? fuck whoever likes this video

  • @Insanity714 respect

  • @Invesigator how?

  • Out of the thousands of procedures that go off without a hitch these poor bastards had the misfortune of being the exception.

Thank you for your service and dedication.

  • Wow, people laugh at the Australian Army black hawk crash yet, everyone is serious about this crash! What a fucking joke.

  • my GOD..We just LITERALLY WATCHED MILITARY PERSONNEL DIE...Holy SHIT....

  • Damn I remember this

I was still in the Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton when this happend

    Semper Fi and RIP Brothers

  • I'm a marine that was on the ship that it had just left from. They were doing some training. Several marines and sailors were killed. Pilot lived and I couldn't imagine going through what he's living with. R.I.P

  • I was an Army Officer who has over 1500 hours of actual experience flying UH-1V

Huey's and have performed 100's of actaul Medevac missions. Speaking from experience I can say that this pilot was WAY HOT in his approach both in terms of airspeed and approach angle. I don't know if he was showing off, was poorly trained, or had minimal experience with deck landing.

  • @dustoff440 did you read the description?

  • Do not play with my collective stick.

  • All because the Landing safety officer was wearing white instead of yellow and some communication errors. I dont know, if i was the pilot and I saw some guy on the deck frantically giving me signals to pull up and power, I think i would listen to him. Training only goes so far, you have to be able to open your mind to other possibilities as well. Complete Pilot Error. RIP soldiers.

  • I lived in the room next to Cpl Adam Johns at Miramar in 2000. I didn't know he was one of the crew chiefs(he was the one hanging out the window)until a couple weeks after meeting him. He was very quiet and at first didn't want to talk about the accident. Eventually he got to talking about the accident and said the pilots were trying to pin it on him. His story was that the pilots went in to land on the deck when they were supposed to go into a hover over it.

  • I was a Gunney in an -46 Avionics shop on the west coast when this happened. The chain of events started months early with PMC and NMC items being waved by the command. I talked to Marines in that squadron and it was not a good place to be before or after the accident.

  • @Invesigator how do these poor people deserve dieing for helping stop terrorism and the loss of Innocent lives, are you a terrorist?

  • To all that have contributed to this video, with remarks that are in good taste, to those that think "lamo" is a funny thing to say, and to all those who think they know everything about Marines who are doing their job to protect you and give you the right to say what you have said....

I am the Father, and I know that is not important to you, of one of those Marines who was killed that day.

All I ask, is for each one of you to think what you have said...Good or Bad..

    Semper Fi

  • geez, so much for "safety netting"

  • Wow, what a hotdog.Hook the gear on netting after a way hot approach, resulting in dynamic roll over. The more collective he pulls to get him out of his nightmare the more the machine wants to roll over, aggravating the situation.

  • everyone knows most military personnel are drugged,

  • R.I.P.

We honor your services. You will be remembered.

  • Why did every piece of equipment on the helicopter fail?

    R.I.P.

Remember the fallen and the ones still fighting.

  • SEMPER FI

  • @USMCsaveri97 Always Faithful

  • R.I.P

  • Just shows you how dangerous the Military is even when you're not on deployment in another country.

  • Ooops, missed it by "that much" ----- sorry Chief

  • it is extemely difficult almost impossible to get out of those helos when they crash in the ocean like that .. if that happens its pretty much over ... godd bless the marines and sailors in there

  • im glad i never saw this video till after i got out of the marines . i might have not got in one of those helos

  • He came up a little short lmao

  • Pilot, you are FIRED!!!!

  • @WaffenSSLegion Actually the pilot was warned several times not to cowboy it. It was cocky and didn't listen. The guys in the helo were from 1st Force Recon Company. They were getting ready to fast rope and were standing up when the bird flipped over. Had they been seated and strapped in they would have had a much better chance of making it out per the way we were trained in the dunk tank. I lost my old team leader ski this day. Very bad day.

    The pilot got nothing.

  • @lavbo0321

the pilot wasnt "cow boying" it as you said he just came in too low and the gear got stuck.

  • @Wendigo127 actually he was. The Marines were supposed to fast rope down. The pilot on several previous practice runs thought for himself Why should they fast rope when I can land. He was cocky and refused to work with the Marines. He was arrogant and indignant. In other words, he was a COWBOY. He did exactly what he was told not to do. He came in low and fast. He was told to come high and slow. Then when his ignorance caused him to miss the pad, the killed two of my friends.

  • Comment removed

  • @lavbo0321 - That is not how I remember the facts lavbo. Were you there?

  • that was scary though

  • Are all the guys alright? Shit that's fucked up

  • This is the video that created the dunk tank and almost drowned my ass.

  • @rickrocker

I was a Crewchief in HMM-163 and Hmm-164 from '90 - '95. Believe me we had the dunk tank then. BTW I still think it should be a ride at a water park. Too much fun. This wreck happened because of a nervous Boot LT and stupid HAC that can't see they were coming in WAY too hot and a dumb-ass crewchief that wasn't in the cockpit beating the shit out of the pilots. You can see him in the door which means he was content with just talking.

  • @2PieceNaBiscut Was this the one that killed everyone? I was shown this video, or one like it, right before they tried to drown us.

  • @rickrocker Don't know, I got out in '95 and there's no telling when this mishap occurred. I can't even see the tail number, so I can't even determine the Helo Squadron.

  • @2PieceNaBiscut I remember watching a video exactly like this in NACCS. They told us this was the reason for the dunk tank... then... they drowned us! LOL

  • Жестоко.

  • The sea looked a little bit rough, my guess is he went down and the ship came up, pushed him right over the edge

  • @Weefles Yeah from the look of it he timed it wrong, and as he came in the ship was going up and caught his back wheels. Which then caused the bird to drop over the edge due to not having enough lift over the sea compared to the ship.

  • It went below surface so fast. There must not have been a chance. I hope there were survivors.

  • так им и надо, дебилам

  • My MSgt. was on board this helicopter back when he was a SSgt. 7 died, and he broke his back in 6 places on impact.

  • I remember this flight accident oh say well, I remember watching this accident in AIT at Ft. Eustis, it was really freaky to watch. I heard all on board died, my stomach just dropped , I wished was just a Hollywood stunt for the movies, but this was for real. I hate to watch stuff like this, but just felt the need to drop by and at my respects for the men and women in uniform. I was in uniform at one point and I respect all the men and woman before me and today and always, thankyou and God Bless

  • @taurusmaroon5 11 out of 18 survived

  • RIP.. A horrible accident.

  • hmwär echt cool wenn jemand mich vor meinen einsamen dasein retten würde

  • thank you for serving our country and R.I.P.

  • R.I.P

  • Is that a person hanging out the window as it slides off? Looks like it

  • @DieselDownunder that was the crew-chief, GySgt Paige. Only a handfull of survivors remember what happened in the back of that plane after it hit the water, but all of them remember GySgt Paige. He was snatching dudes up and stuffing them out the window. He had 5min of compressed air strapped to his vest, and, I understand, he used all of it trying to save the Marines trapped in the back of that plane.

  • @truck even of you are a pilot you obviously aren't a military pilot or you'd know your supposed to come in fast while getting men on the deck to capture the ship

  • Better know how to swim, and I mean swim that thing is probably sinking fast!

  • I damn near ended up in a similar situation once on a 46 with HMM-264, but it was due to icing and we were diving for the deck as the aircraft lost power. Luckily we made it onto the Shriveport. RIP brothers.

  • Oh my Lord, what a horrible way to die. :(

  • Horrible accident. God rest the souls of the lost Marines and Navy personnel. The copter sank into 3800 feet of water within 40 seconds. 7 lives lost.

  • exept hes dead

  • @TRUCKMAD001 fuck you people died. your an asshole.

  • yeah right....

  • @TRUCKMAD001 no i don't think when a pilot sees another pilot die they would make a joke. Your just get a joke out of other peoples misfortune. fuck you and your gay life. you are not a pilot you poser faggot.

  • @TRUCKMAD001 a pilot in what, your dreams? where do you fly, so I can avoid having you as a pilot.

You sound like one of these self-proclaimed "computer experts", who are only really good at screwing things up even worse than they already are.

  • @TRUCKMAD001 You're a douche and if you've ever flown a plane, I'll give myself slow head while hanging from my feet.

  • I was on the Bonhomme Richard at this time was BM3 Longoria back then

  • no this is mountain, whats up Hailey. long time no talk. hows things goin.

  • Oh, shit. Thats right. How you been dude? I shoulda known by the 240! Things are good man. How you been? Hit me up on Facebook bro.

  • this why trying to land fast does not aways work if you watch carefully you can see that his landing wheel caught hold of the saftey net which hen pulled him over when he give the engines more power if anyone survived they are lucky cause when a choper hits the water its not pretty

  • OMG! im shocked! it just go under the water like a rock!

  • I was onboard the BHR when that happened. Very sad day for the ship. Anyone know how the survivors are doing?

  • Hey bro. I was on the fifth helo that day. We were supposed to come in to land but this happened and we came back after watching the rescue (nothing we could do with all our shit on). Shit man, they replaced those guys the next week and we had to redue to the mission to become SOC. I'll never forget when we were all saying our goodbyes before we left on that two week workup watching those guys say goodbye to their kids...and then they never came back. I still go to therapy for that shit.

  • I was onboard the BHR as well, i was with 1/4 H&S Co. Comm. PLT (field Radio Operator, i still remember the day this happened. Sad sad day indeed. I still remember the ceremony we held on the deck of the BHR over the crash site

  • omg

  • only 11 survived

  • I was supposed to be on that bird as HRST Master but got pulled off because Force HRST was feeling better. A sad day that was.

  • Hunley or Thoman??? It's Hailey.

  • na dude some did

  • Oh ..! :s

  • waw

  • fail

  • Russian pilots-where the hell do you get that shit from? This is a CH46 Sea Knight helo and the pilot came in to low and got caught up on something. Have some respect for the US military. I'm a former Recon Marine '89-'93 and take this seriously. Semper Fi Marines!! RIP

  • "Epic fail?" This is something I hear my 18-19 year old friends say. Not many of them have too much respect for Marines either. Maybe if you listened to a few more sources than your high school teachers and college T.A.s you'd understand the and appreciate them. Just ONE example: without the Marines and sailors of US and NATO, pirates would totally disrupt food supplies across the coasts of Africa. Send them home, starve millions. Go, read. Open your mind, challenge... for real.

  • epic fail is a phrase for nerds and low-lifes. oh, and would you say the marines and sailors are closer than marines than army? (just a curious thought)

  • Perhaps it's because the USMC is a department of the Navy?

  • Yes

  • @stuckerje1 As much as I respect the men in our armed forces (I might be one myself one day...) I don't believe their actions against "pirates" are always justified. Pirates hold up a ship with humanitarian aid supplies, send in the Navy/Marines. Commercial fishers over-fish the waters of a helpless nation, leaving the locals to starve, then get attacked by pirates, they deserved it.

  • @MIAfor360 are you crazy?..the pirates dont just attack "commercial fishers who over fish their waters" they attack whoever they can..have you not heard about tthe pirates attacking a ship and then turning and runing because they realized it was a navy warship..yaa that has happened twice in the last month..with that kind of attitude you shouldnt be in the service because you obv dont see right and wrong

  • @mike617 "Pirates hold up a ship with humanitarian aid supplies, send in the Navy/Marines." I can tell right and wrong, try reading my comment in full before you speak.

  • @MIAfor360 Too true! Not only do they steal local stock, but they totally destroy the ocean floor with their trawlers. Those aren't commercial fishers, they are poachers, and they illegally transfer those catches to wholesalers in the middle of the sea! But I wouldn't call it piratism to combat them. That's protection. We can separate them from the pirates, the guys jacking ships for monetary gain. Poachers and pirates alike are committing violent and terrible crimes!

  • @MIAfor360 Those same priates who hold up a Humanitarian aid ship, also hold up anyone they can. Not to mention when they steal said supplies from that ship they don't go give them to the people like Robin Hood, they sell it and use it to fix their broken friends who are attacking their people on shore. I know because my Sgt served on 4 ships the last was dispatched to chase said pirates. Before commenting that we are the bad guys get your facts straight.

  • @stuckerje1 Oorah, myself, my brothers and everyone else serving thanks you. Too many people these days worry more about what the TV says then thinking about us doing what we do. Its funny that most people only see the war, not the other efforts we do like Hati, Pirate chasing in Africa, etc.

    Semper Fidelis

  • @airsoftsniper4307 Thanks for your reply. It is too easy to let the first thing we hear from NBC 5 o'clock news form our opinion. So, people end up screaming for isolationism, protectionism, interventionism and the spread of democracy at the same time - and don't even know why or what it all really means. People who decide who they are, know where their fathers are from, know what they believe and who are honest with themselves, are much more at peace with the world and know how to respond...

  • @stuckerje1 I hear that brother, I find it so amazing how sheltered and in a box most of America is. Its so astounding that people can go through life so ignorant, makes me wonder how I was before I joined the military.

  • PS. Semper Fidelis et Audax (Always faithful and brave!)

  • @stuckerje1 I dont think this vid is in any relation to wars, food supplies, men on boats with no womenly options, or cheeseburgers... but wow, in the special oplympics.... the winner is still retarded... Unfortunate for the servicemen on this vessel and aircraft that did not make it, sympathy for the families. But dont rip on Epic Fail man... ofcoarse your 18-19 yr old friends would say... WELCOME TO THE GENERATION

  • @freakshow1945 This video is about a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of American servicemen. Servicemen from around the world, and occasionally people without a reliable military, are the ones who go to war and protect international transit routes. So this video has a very solid relation to war, food supplies, and the men & women on boats. I too said wow when I watched the Olympics. When someone simply competes in the Olympics, medal or not, regular or special, they are an Olympian.
