Wow... I totally overlooked this movie... I didn't know Freidkin Directed it... a good comback after the weird Crusing and epic but disasterous Sorcerer... Watching this now it got classic written all over it... fast paced like French Connection and VERY 1985. Emphasized well by the Wang Chung Score. The car chase scene is a wicked WTF is going on???
fail... they left out the suitcase... I suppose william petersen characters don´t have finger prints in this movie, right? They later return scaping the pursuit of their fellow secret service agents by a hair, they couldnt grab the cars plate number or the faces of peterson and his partner. Guess in that world finger prints are no existent, specialy when there is a dead man with a bullet in his back.
Love this flick...always wondered what they would have done if the dude told them he was an F.B.I. agent. Would have made things pretty tricky, no? Friedkin snatched Petersen out of "Streetcar" in Canada to make this flick. In my top 10, maybe top 5 ever. "Buddy....you're in the wrong place at the wrong time"...
I can't say enough positive things about this film. It endures so well...even 25 years (!) after it came out.
One reason I loved this film is that it was the first movie (that I know of) that did NOT glamorize Los Angeles. It showed its seedy underbelly and grit...and I freakin' love that!
Why? Cause if you don't I'll blow your fucking heart out.
ROWWR! Sucha kick-ass piece of dialogue and killer ending line, music, pace, timing, all elements kicking ass and leading into the Chase. Eat your heart our Ronin, this was the original, superior wrong way down the highway chase.
Holy crap. I jonsed on this movie when it came out, but this is some seriously good stuff. The soundtrack is amazing, the filmaking also amazing. Can I get started about the acting?
Agent Wang Chung was chased by his one people and then in a case of "friendly fire" took a 5.56 MM rd to the spine. And in this case of fratricide does the FBI admit that it made a mistake? Hell no, cover that up and blame anyone else. Who could it lay the case on? You, me. TSA, NSA, CIA, BOP, IRS. FDA, even the ROTC.

I have a modest proposal: all movies from the 80s should have their soundtracks remade and recorded over for DVD and TV. Easy thing to do. The theme songs like Heat is On can stay, but the background music they used is horrible, and makes those flicks ridiculously dated, even the best ones. Shoud start with Rain Man, 48 hours and Stakeout. Too bad you can do nothing for the clothes. Who's with me?
Love this movie, and I'm not ordinarily an action film fan. Saw it when it first came out ub 1985. Even though I've only been to LA once, I feel like this is one of the most realistic, powerful scenes ever shot on film set in a major city. I saw a film clip where William Petersen said he did most of the driving in it, and fought to do it in its entirety; but Friedkin brought in a stunt driver to fill in the gaps. I just love its authenticity and raw power. And the film isn't too bad either! ;-)
This is one great movie! Its like the movies from the 70s,every thing is so real because they flim on location.Los Angeles has the best of everything for the studios.
I own this movie soundtrack .... on cassette ! ;-)
What a great, great underrated movie this is. Before DVDs came along, I bought an ex-rental VHS of this and wore it out.
Peterson is great, Dafoe steals every scene he is in, but with little screen time John Turturro steals the entire movie .. just as he would do ten years later in Millers Crossing
One of the great all car chases, right up there with Bullit and Ronin
@RUSSTRADAMUS Right.. I first saw rockwell years ago in some TV drama about an alcoholic in some little town in Alaska. It was a really fucked up story and I felt for the guy in the most gut wretching way. Good to see him getting some Hollywood success now. He was recently next to Harrison Ford in the alien flick. Peter Stormare - always like looking out for him - great comedy too! :D OOH SNAP!
These ranks up there among the best car chase scenes in hollywood history! This movie is from same director of French Connection that produced another great chase!!!
When you're ready 4 your car 2b more than it's mpg, git yosef A BOX CHEVY. Towing stoing, safety, real frame, real engine, I want one with a vortecs pushing 400+hp for quick trips to LA.

I think that William Friedkin one-upped his car chase scene in "The French Connection" with this chase. One crazy motherfucker...

Damn, where did that guy learn how to shoot?
He sprays bullets all over the place then shoots his fellow agent.
Look like upper mgt material for the TSA.

- the red palmtree is also like blood out of a bulletwound
- the capitals LA with fire to indicate its a hot/dangerous city
- the pounding dark synthesizer adds power to the bold fontset.
- de distingtive orange sunset of LA
The TLADILA track is a well balanced ballet of tough suburbs and depressing citylife. The piano and synthesizers emphesizes stopmotion city drama,
the beat emphesizes exotic life , the flute gives neighbourhood feeling, guitars sound remorsefull.
..i get carried away :p

He says he still likes "The French Connection" chase better. I myself think this one is better.
