you dont know what happened in the band. Im certain it was bad to break up the team. But i think joel is a far superior player than ross technicaly. I seen both live an ross was a bit sloppy. Joel was flawless. just saying as a musician myself. But id have to agree Ross had that natural EDGE!
@spideyjoe1 Ross has the feel and the emotion in his playing... Joel plays more for the song and plays more technically and "by the rules"..... I'm a much bigger Ross fan, I love his vibe, but both are definitely great guitarists.
i wish ross and shane never left i think their new stuff could have used them both if they would be more of a better band then what they are now dont get me wrong the new stuff is good but they would have made it better
i MISS ROSS :( when he left, i felt it :( i only wish they would remake some of the new stuff with him! i swear i think it was new vibration where they play a sax!? o maaan he woulda torn that up! :O
Honestly, a couple of others do too though. I wish he would get some help, i see him really messed up sometimes where he can't even focus and speak clearly.
An answer about Ryan. At a concert I recently attended, a woman that is like their biggest fan, which is impossible because I am, said that he had alot of promotional things to take care of. Henceforth, the creation of Chenney, which I have to say, is AWESOME! Better than Ryan. The dude can rock those F'in drums. My ? is, what happened to Ross?
Ross did terrible, unspeakable things to Ed. Ed had to fire his ass and leave his wife. I think you get the picture. Oh, and Chenney is nothing special. Any 4/4 drummer can play these songs with ease. But Ed is just the man and his songs are beyond well written.
Collective Soul has been my all time FAVORITE band now since their debut. I have been to several of their concerts, and I must say, they've always pleased the crowd. Ross was an excellent guitar player, but I'd do the same if I were Ed. Shane, what happened to him then? Ross and Shane need to team up with Scott Stapp, formerly of Creed, and make a band. I would like to see that, being that Creed, even though no longer together, is my second favorite band. Let me know about Shane too. L8TR.
I heard a rumor from more than one source that said Shane had issues with alcohol/drugs and that is why he left, but before Collective soul changed their website, there was a news forum that said Shane wanted to focus more on his personal and family life and get out of the spot light.... so who knows.
Also I didn't find out about Cheney being in the band till November 3rd (the day of the Green Bay concert). There was no announcement on Ryan leaving leaving many fans looking for answers
shortly after they put their greatest hits cd out shane and ross left for some unknown reasons at least to me. watching this video cements the fact that these guys were at the top of their gam at this point
yea, sucks really... ross was my favorite member too. ah, after hearing their newest effort though, i think maybe he was just bailing from a sinking ship, considering how heavily grunge-oriented he was
No one really knows why he left, but I do know that Ryan Hoyle recorded on the 'Youth' album, which makes me believe that Shane knew he was leaving. Maybe they were waiting for Ryan to know all the songs before Shane would leave. I believe that the switch was premeditative. But, why Shane left? Don't know.
Ryan left Collective Soul after touring with them last summer to concentrate on his cave studio so now they have a new drummer named Cheney Brannon who is Joel's former bandmate in Steep
I check the CS message boards daily. Right now the one on the CS website is down as they are working on a new album but there are 4 others set up by fans that at times resemble a get together of friends than news on CS but that is when CS doesn't have any new updates.
Ahh.... Back when Collective Soul was the true Collective Soul..

you can't hear dean's guitar at all during the entire song, we're listening to a 3 piece

Why sounds too quiet during the chorus without the rhythm guitar

ever since ross left it seems like the band lost any edge they had. i like their new music, but they lost most of their cool factor.

Shane had addiction problems. It was interfering. And I don't think Shane would respect Ross much after what he did to Ed.

Yeah from what i heard, he left the band, didn't even tell them he was leaving, and hasn't really spoken to the band at all since he left.
