The singing is there for you to interpret while you feel the music waft over you then overwhelm your senses both inner and outer. They have supplied the music. You supply the story. That is Sigur Ros.
godofrock007: There´s no translation for this for this is hopelandish...some kind of elfish Jónsi made or just makes as he goes. The whole album () is in this hopelandish
@AnomisTube what?!? he's not even speaking in a real language? i saw them a few years back in hawaii. they are so amazing live! they really are something special. sorry i wanna brag. at the concert in hawaii about half the cast of LOST was there and they sat like 3 rows in front of me. the hobbit was there. anyway, love this band. TAKK is my favorite album
i would have to say that despite the one little mistake in this video (which might i add is the only mistake i've witnessed from them thus far) it is probably the most beautiful rendition of the most beautiful song to date.
Other tracks are good, this one is Brilliant. From the "Untitled" album. Best tracks I've found ever from them are from their website, they have many free downloads of songs live, better than their recorded stuff.
i call it a pump organ. I'm pretty sure it's an organ if its standing up and has pedals instead of the hand pump deal. but a harmonium and a reed pump organ are pretty much the same thing. just in a different set up. I bought a pump organ just like that one. its awesome. its an Estey children's pump organ. well mine is, i mean.
im surprised that jonsi uses a martin D15 for his live performances, i would imagine a professional musician would use a better instrument, any reasons you think he does that? I think maybe he would prefer the more subtle sound of the d15 as opposed to a D28 or something with a larger body...
Do you suppose we can officially call these songs by their alternate names now instead of the "Untitled #X" thing? It was a fun gimmick for a while, but it seems a bit pointless now that the working titles have been used for so long.
i don't think so, they only gave them names for live performances, i like the fact that they were untitled because a song doesn't really have to have a title i can just be music
Well worth buying anything by them. For this tune, called VAKA your best bet is to buy the album Hvarf - Heim (Heim). Its a double album and this track is the third on disc too - a live version. The album contains the tunes from their film Heima. Youll get it easily on itune or Amazon or anywhere really. Well worth it. Enjoy...
My girlfriend and I were there that cold night in London. It's all about the music man. I floated back home that night...and felt stronger the next day...
I'm a huge fan of Sigur Ros, but more importantly of this relatively new musical expression called by names like impressionistic music and ambient music.
What I'm wondering is - What does the growing popularity of music like this mean?
In some ways it feels like a musical movement.
The music is beautiful and peaceful to be sure, but also... slow, almost processional (like a funeral), often with minor cords that express angst.
A musical movement expressing sadness and resignation over...?
its not aimed to be "over" anything in particular. this movement is getting so much attention because people in general have things to cry over and depress over, so every single person can listen to any of these songs, and automatically relate to the underlying melancholy found both in the melodys and the lyrics.
thats why radiohead is my favorite band. they are what i turn to when things aren't going my way.
this post 911 world is full of sorrow and anxiety, so people tend to gravitate to melancholic music. S R is popular in U.S. I think as a reflection on how a lot of young people fell about all the violence being committed around the world, seemingly without an end in site. Just some thoughts. Peace.....

i think 911 is a reason as well as many other things in the world like growing poverty and war, also it's not that bad to get into a different state with this music because it can be interpreted in different ways either happy or sorrow
