I love skunks <3!! I wish I can have a pet skunk but unfortunately in my state it's illegal to have a pet skunk or else they'll take it away from you and kill it =(
In researching skunks non altered skunks reach a certain age and become quite vicious, this makes them nonideal for pets, so people who breed them are not hobbyists and must be breeding on a very large scale, commercial avenue. I never said all cats have a homing instincts, only that the only domesticated animal I know of is the cat that can survive in the wild. Individuals are just that, individuals.
Actually, some of the people who sell domestic skunks are *former* fur breeders who left the business when changes to labeling laws (banning alternate names for skunk fur) caused their market to collapse. Other sellers were never in the fur business at all.
As for homing instinct - my cat has none (this has caused for few horrifying episodes), and let me assure you he is incapable of surviving in the wild.
Domestic skunks have a longer lifespan and a more docile nature that wild skunks.
This is the cutest video!!!! I have a pet skunk myself and shes the best pet EVER!!! She LOVES to cuddle. I have 6 cats, 2 dogs a chinchilla and a dove... so I can honestly say she is the best out of all. Not potty trained very well at all. They are hard to potty train. But she is sooooo loveable!!!! I had one before her and he was wild and abandoned and I fell in love. I paid 400 dollars for her!!! If that doesnt say how much I wound up liking skunks I dont know what would!! :)
my skunk escaped in november,it was the worst time of my life.3 days later i found her in the front yard of the house behind me.thank god she didn't go far
Are you sure about that. You are right about the homing instinct, but Daisy goes outside with me all the time. She follows me like a dog, it took some training.
But having seen so many people go through horrors beyond belief trying to find their skunk who has managed to get out of the house, I can't imagine a skunk with a pet door unless the yard was not only completely fenced in w/o any gaps, but also with the fence buried so that it can't be dug under.
I'm amazed that you were able to train your skunk to follow - but that isn't the same as one wandering on its own. (BTW: How did you train your skunk?)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Pet skunks are unethical, just from the mere fact that you are lining the pockets of people who SLAUGHTER their brothers and sisters for their fur.
The fact that skunks have "no homing instinct" meaning that they are comfortable in the wild, indicates they are largely undomesticated.
I could be wrong, but other then color, what differences are there between a wild skunk and a "domesticate"?

Domestic skunks are not "more docile" They have their sexual organs removed and then they are more docile.
(skunk mating depends on aggression) Many animals that are protected, well fed, have medical access and are altered live longer.

you have a nice skunk, but arent you scared that the skunk will runaway or get lost in the dryer vent?

This was staged for the commercial.
Domestic skunks have no homing instinct, and therefor cannot be allowed to wander free.
In real life domestic skunks are never taken out unless they are on a leash or in a cage because of this.
