You can see how he's doing it....it's not that sophisticated. First the cards are in the order he wants them, as shown at 0:14. The false shuffles and restored cuts keep the cards in the same order. The story he tells with the cards is BRILLIANT.

@llahliagiba He puts all the cards in order in the box, so when he pulls the cards out they're all in the right order to begin with. When he has Ellen cut the deck, she's really just changing which card is on top, but the cards stay in the same sequence...notice when he left the card on the table that he had to go searching through the deck to find where it fell out and put it back in the right spot. The rest is just a mixture of false and real cutting of the deck. Nothing he does is "random".

he has to know which is where and he will no. the cards

so if 6 of spades it at the bottom, the king will be 3rd card from the top

Its quite simple once you know the basics note at 00:29 he messes up by not picking up the last card however note how high it is off the surface (it bounces) and how bent the top left portion of the card is (it has a bent edge to mark an easy card cut. ;-) still a brilliant performance

pretty cool the effect that he managed to get with all of that. Only noticed the "shuffling" the second time around. He always seams to shuffle, but actually never does. When he presents the cards we can see that the last card will be the 6 of spades, and it actually is. Pretty cool the effect.

he never actually shuffles the deck. when he lets ellen cut the deck, he takes one out and has the deck memorized. he then looks at the cards and can see where she cut it and simply puts the card he took out back in. watch it again... you'll feel like an idiot for thinking this is cool!!!
