  • Sigh=Orgasm to my ears...I have Scorm Defeat Infidel Art and Imaginary Sonicscape.

  • You should have added Skullfuck (Avant-garde Black Metal)

  • I love how you call Sigh your favorite band ever and I love how you used a song from their best album "Imaginary sonicscape" It's my second favorite album ever.

  • @PrimaPunchy What's the first?

  • @Dennzer1 Don't laugh

It's Origin of Symmetry by Muse

  • @PrimaPunchy Origin of Symmetry is one of the best albums Ive ever heard. Top 3 for sure. I would not laugh.

  • I'm sure my opinion isn't going to lead to anything, but I believe that something with emotion IS art. What SycamoreHill has described as a 'farce of art' could somewhat apply to Nattramn, and his music is some of THE most emotionally filled music I have ever heard, and could most certainly be filed under 'art' for me.

  • What exactly makes a band 'avante-guard'?

  • @PcCAvioN What makes a band avant-garde is mostly ignoring musical conventions and standards in favor of experimentation and a broader range of emotional expression.

  • @PcCAvioN "avant-garde" is Latin for "cutting edge." It's a catch-all for artists that really push the creative envelope.

  • @jek21 avant-garde, latin, "cutting edge". well played, sir, well played.

  • @PlomiennyJacus Heh. Yeah, I meant French. My bad.

  • @SycamoreHill14 ironically, avant garde is more complex than melody death.

  • @falleinloveshoes7 Yes, it is more complex...

  • Avant-garde metal is Technical Death Metal's gay pretentious cousin. Melodeath ftw \m/

  • @SycamoreHill14 I'd call it art before I'd call anything Tech Death art. I mean, I listen to all metal, from Black to Death to Sludge to Thrash and avant-garde shows the most artistic and musical prowess I've heard yet.

  • @QuotingLovecraft Well, I never said Tech Death was art. Besides, judging by the bands provided here, it seems that all Avant-Garde Metal is random banging of instruments, and extremely weak riffs of the Jonas Brother level (or no real riff at all). It depends to much on the ambient sound to really compare with other genres such as Melodeath, Folk Metal and Thrash. I guess the word art is thrown around too loosely these days.

  • @SycamoreHill14 It's obvious you don't understand avant garde music, man, and music is art. All art is just original creativity. It's up to the persons on biases, yet sadly, people such as yourself (it appears) have a closed mind, hindering them to appreciate all forms of art, even if it seems to be random.

  • @QuotingLovecraft Like I said, the word "art" is thrown around too loosely. By that logic a person clapping their hands and screaming at the top of their lungs would be considered art. Which takes as much effort as most of the music samples provided here.

  • @SycamoreHill14 It's all based on what a person thinks. You've stated your opinion, as have I, and you can be a prick about it all you want, but I'm done with trying to humor an obvious troll. If you don't like it, go to another video.

  • @QuotingLovecraft Sure, cause anyone who dislikes this, or disagrees with your flawless logic must be a troll.

  • @SycamoreHill14 Anyone who clicks on a video to call it shit metal's pretentious gay cousin sure sounds like a troll. Besides, I wasn't even trying to be a dick, all I was saying is you shouldn't call it crap because of a few bands.

  • @SycamoreHill14 I dobn't believe it's "random" or "simple" It's strange, progressive focus more on techincality same goes for Mathcore. But, avant-garde is strange with different atmosphere and it's also lyrically odd too, which I adore. Also, I like to point out that there's variety of styles within the genre, diversity is the key. Maudlin of The Well for example, the song "The Ferryman" was sang in latin,I mean, how could they sing in latin and able to comprhend the dead language?

  • Vlad Cochet (Mirrorthrone) Is a hidden pearl in a oceanic universe. Absolutely stunning musician.

  • THIS is what Metallica tried to do with Lulu?!

I'm sorry, but what the FUCK was going on over there between Lou Reed and Metallica?!

  • i dont know if i would count some of these bands avant garde, I mean, if you listen to most classical and post-modern avant garde, its really, really out there. Just try listening to Threnody for Victims of Hiroshima, and youll see what I mean.

  • b.o.r.i.n.g.

  • Damn, best list of bands put into one list...thumbed and will subscribe

  • ?v=ZhgYCrtxqqg&feature=related i also make avent garde music

  • also, thanks S0unDOfCha0S for uploading this!! you're the first channel that i subs with email notifications haha pure gold(/chaos) in this videos!!

  • @luiscanifru Thanks! :D

  • @quocdarock check Elements from Atheist like glitchedgamer said, also check Cynic, Textures, Exivious (Members from cynic and textures), Devin Townsend Project

  • Just discovered Sigh, and holy shit what a band. Instant fan.

  • anyone ever find a jazz metal band? like half jazz half metal?

  • @quocdarock Try Atheist's Elements album. I wouldn't call it "jazz metal," but it's some good experimental death with some jazz influences throughout.

  • @quocdarock Ephel Duath is kinnd of what you seek.

  • I love avant-garde metal, because you can do everything you want...Break the mold!

  • The band of my dreams is a avant-garde metal band!!! close your mind to do always -the same is stupid.... experimenting is great . We have lots of music genres and instruments. Why don't play something different?

  • Wow... The poster of this video seriously misunderstands "avant garde".

Diablo Swing Orchestra are avant garde metal, not one of these bands are.

  • "the pinnacle of musical art"

    I lol'd.

  • What's the song for Mirrorthrone?

  • @TheArvernian so frail

  • damn you. i just finished up on torrentz and now ive got to go back and get some of these amazing bands. you sir have amazing taste

  • awsome i like your videos i really like avant garde metal SIGH is the best agm band of all time. good work good videos!!!

  • yakuza is an amazing band, saw them live open for 1349 and Triptykon. All of these bands are sick. ty for upload

  • Thank you for doing all this work for me, lol

  • mucho sonido agudo no me gusta

deberia de tener mas graves que agudos

  • cant read shit lol

  • AVANT GARDE METAL IS AN OXYMORON. IT EITHER ROCKS FROM YOUR GUT OR ITS SOME IDEA FROM YOUR HEAD. PICK ONE.

  • @Savorist really? Its an actual genre idiot.

  • what a mess with all that genres.. i'll keep on hearing Diablo Swing and just ignore this video... xD

  • The Lo Flux Tube album by O.L.D. is awesome.

  • Bath by maudlin of the Well. best album. EVER

  • Portal? Mirrorthrone? Ved Buens Ende...? awesome list with those!

  • I fucking love Negura Bunget!!!!!!!

  • pinkly smooth should be on here hands down

  • NOW I GOT IT! THANKS!

AVANT-GARDE = A CASTLE MADE WITH BRICKS OF SHIT

    I THINK I HATE YOU

  • @chanchizetro Hah. Shame on you my friend, continue listening to catchy pre-puberty ass "artists" like Bieber and Cyrus. And while you're at it, go sit on a judas cradle and do us favor. Now fuck off.

  • @SlimJimVG Chupala sorete

  • @S0unDOfCha0S. Thanks alot for these introductions. I didn't know anything about avant-garde before, but know i'm addicted thanx again. It has enlarged my vision of music and therefore life itself. I think all people should do that. everybody tries to defend 'their' music, but i think try to listen to all the music there is. It really changes your view of music and life. (apologies for any incorrect grammar)

  • No Lux Occulta or Estradasphere?

  • You wanna hear some real Avante-garde metal? Look up "Anal Cunt Morbid Florist:"

  • @vgmaster9

    IT'S A TRAP!!

  • Thanks for the great list but jesus the text made my eyes boil.

  • INCREADIBLE ARTISTS

  • This is in no way meant as a 'bitchy' and typical youtube comment, but none of this can really be classed as avante-garde; just progressive.

They are all very rooted in a specific genre however much they may be using it in a progressive way and introducing new influences into it and they are all using conventional ensemble instruments.

  • me canse del metal normal y este video es lo mismo que siempre puros gritos excepto 2 bandas

  • great videos, but practically the 90% of these bands are more progressive than avant-garde!

  • i expected this to be to be crap, but some of it was actually ok

  • Did you metion Oranssi Pazuzu in your videos? They'r psychedelic black metal, one of my favorite experimetal band!

  • Ya know, most of these bands I would be reluctant to classify under the avant-garde genre, most of them yes do have multiple influences which can make for an interesting sound, but avant-garde is more than just interesting influences, its throwing away the rules and just doing what you want, usually including strange and obscure instruments, not just the influence from jazz, but somehow throw jazz ingot it, get a sax and a trumpet doing a line in there, not just adding a jazz chord arpeggio

  • And as for Bath, they sound like authentic avant-garde, the point of avant-garde is that it is basically unidentifiable, its everything that is still music that is unclassifiable, avant-garde-metal is basicly that with a metal base

  • @DonutFUN Yeah I was thinknig that

  • imagine this genre to be on all the radio stations in maybe 30-40 years in time???

  • pls can you put all the songs of each band

i really like this music but i can't find the name of the songs

  • @47ytn lol, all of the song names are at the end of the video xD

  • @S0unDOfCha0S What's the song name from negura bunget?

  • @S0unDOfCha0S awsome SIGH is the best avant garde metal band of all time good work i like your videos

  • pls can you put all the songs of each band

i really like this music but i can't find the name of the songs

  • i think math rock is better, but this is pretty good too

  • We want others videos please *__*

  • Is there any band similiar to Pinkly Smooth? Who doesnt scream all the time and who has these "comical" stuff. When I first heard Pinkly Smooth it kinda defined the kind of music I've always wanted to make myself, but they only have 1 album.... I need to find more

  • @Teoodorh I thought the exact same about pinkly smooth when i first heard them. Unfortunately, there kinda one of a kind man. But if i'd recommend listening to arcturus for sure (Especially the sham mirrors) Their stuff kinda reminds me of them.

  • maudlin of the well is THE best.

    Ever.

  • 8:06 onwards is ... amazing.

  • no pinkly smooth or mr.bungle?

  • @sethfrancis7 Don't have Pinkly Smooth yet, but Mr. Bungle is in a later video. :3

  • mirrorthrone is awesome.

  • @FlevrEliatris Yes, yes he is.

  • @FlevrEliatris MIRRRRRRRRROOOOOOORRRHTROOOOOOONEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSS MUISIC GGGGGGGGIIIIIIIIVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSS MMMMMMMEEEEE TTTTTHHHHHHHEEEEE BBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGEEEEEESSSSSSTTTTTT EAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGAAAAAAZZZZZMMMMMSSSSSS EVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEERRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!! EPIC >=D

  • how the fuck do they find music in an everyday piano?

    are they magicians?

  • Portal are terrifying.

  • Mirrorthrone... wow, how original. You know, the purple font used when describing the bands is almost as hard to read as it is to listen to some of these bands. Apart from that a nice video!

  • Mirrorthrone... wow, how original

  • And what about Ram-Zet? He describes his music as "Schizo-metal". Not sure if it's avant-garde.. But it's still awesome.

  • @SPARKEDinsanity Nevermind. Found it in part 3 lol

  • Arcturus, Borknagar, Dodheimsgard, Ihsahn.

    Must-have artists of the genre.

  • what is the name of the final music?

  • @messia666 It's the end of Sigh's Slaughtergarden Suite.

  • Ever heard of SUP/Suppuration? They're an excellent French cult band!

  • do you know of a band called carbonized?

  • @Kingtunice I know OF them :p

  • @Kingtunice carbonized is excellent...the best band that ever came out of sweden

  • Second Brain are kind of a low-fi avant-garde rock metal act, but still relevant. Would you say Urizen are avant-garde as well?

  • I love all the terms.

  • Yakuza! Wow!!! You're right, they're underrated, but I wish they weren't because I could've known them before. Amazing!

  • This isn't really avant-garde except in a very light sense. Check out Buckethead, Coheed and Cambria, The Mars Volta, System of a Down, and The Fall of Troy. Those are some better examples of Avant-garde seeing as they truly think outside of the box as far as musical limits go.

  • @StopRunningKid and you cant forget pinkly smooth... they're like the kings of avant-gard

  • @isoldmybrother123 Haven't heard them. I'll check them out, thanks.

  • manimbawt atung balhibo ani

  • I'm enjoying this alot!! Although I'm more influenced by Finnish Folk/Melodeath. I must add that, the description of each band you have written in the video made it difficult for me to read (the coloring system you have chosen).

  • 00:01 and so begins the series that would be awesome

  • The best band is unexpect *__*

  • wow portal is amazing

  • Akphaezya.

  • @daydreamnation54 The one after the next one ;)

  • @S0unDOfCha0S GOOD! I was starting to think a couple of my favourites weren't going to be on here. : D

  • I suggest putting Pinkly Smooth in your next video, if you ever make another one. The band was formed by Avenged Sevenfold's The Rev and Synyster Gates. They sound a lot like Mr. Bungle and exactly like the genre they gave themselves "Goblin Metal". Unfortunately only one album was realeased, 2002's Unfortunate Snort, which contained only 6 songs. Plans on a new record were rumored but its unlikely to happen due to Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan's death on December 28th of last year :/

  • @MrFicction agreed, and pinkly smooth got me into this type of music.........i listened to them after a7x then heard that thez were inspired by mr bungle so i became a mr bungle fan and thats how i came into this music :)

  • @TheByzantineEmo Yeah dude same here. Mr. Bungle is awesome and so is every Mike Patton project.

  • i think....o.l.d mixing grind and industrial (+ avant)

  • You My Master!!

  • what's the name of the intro song? :D

  • @ShadowSpy666 "The Blue Ghost/Shedding Qliphoth" by maudlin of the Well, it's a very mellow and amazing instrumental song!

  • thanks

  • mirrorthrone has to be the best

  • Mirorthrone is one of the best artists in this video

  • good inspiration, THX !! :)

  • this music has nothing to do with avant garde.......there is nothing innovative about using electric guitars and drums the same way we have been for the past 50 years!!

  • wait which was the song at the end in purple?

  • Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors

Greatest avant-garde metal cd ever created.

  • watched all four of this series. first of all, thanks for the effort. I agree that these bands and their music are not anywhere near "avant garde" and that the term "progressive metal" would suffice to explain their adventurous nature. That said, "labels" are just "labels". It's good to see my favourites OLD is here. But there's a glaring omission of Voivod's mid-period output and also Watchtower's early releases. I'm now hunting down for some of these bands you recommended. Cheers!

  • Does every vocalist have to be this annoying?

  • Fucking Mirrorthrone \m/ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • When I clicked this, I was thinking "Alchemist... I hope there's Alchemist..." and then it was the first thing :D

You should have done something from Spiritech though (perhaps Road to Ubar, Figments, or Hermaphroditis?), it's way more avant-garde than Tripsis.

  • @LordRumpusaurus Yeah, a lot of their stuff is more avant-garde than Tripsis, but that's all I had at the time.

But to anybody who reads this, listen to the Alchemist song "Jar of Kingdom", it is SOOOO fucked up!

  • @S0unDOfCha0S The entire album is really weird. I feel like they really hit their stride on Spiritech though.

  • Avant garde metal for life.

  • What about Unexpect? And would Tragico Ballet be considered avant-garde?

  • @SPARKEDinsanity uneXpect is in part IV, as for Tragico Ballet, I'll have to look them up.

  • @SPARKEDinsanity tragico ballet is a goth band, you idiot!!! they are from mexico, i am from mexico,. they are not avant garde. you are really stupid did u know that :D ? goth rock compared to avant garde? LOL!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheMissit Lol i'm glad to know i'm not the only one who's heard of them at least XD And at the time i wrote the comment i wasn't sure exactly what avant-garde metal was as i had just heard of it that day. It's been a while tho and i figured it out haha XD

  • @SPARKEDinsanity nah its ok man, sorry i called u stupid but i really lol when i saw TRAGICO BALLET written by an american =| i got a lot of songs from them, they are cool guys, any time u want some add me just_missit@hot..

  • It's like there was a burning body or something.

  • WOW Greath bands of Avantgarde

  • whats the outro song???

  • Yeah, alot of the stuff here is more experimental than avant-garde. The term avant-garde metal in itself is a contradiction. However, it's the closest term we've got to describe some bands, so I won't fight it. Just a point worth mentioning.

  • I loveeee Mirrothrone! The same guy also has a second band. Unholy Matrimony =]

  • wow, very fucking pretentious. Pinnacle of musical art? and u spelled incredible wrong "increadible?"

Good work collect bands and making a video demonstration though.

  • I loved the ending sound :')

  • Damn i can't barely read what you wrote, using dark font with a dark background wasn't a good idea/

  • It seems to me as if Advant Garde is a very difficult genre to describe. But if your gonna go by Celtic Frost, Sigh and Borknagger as examples, it seems to me as if Advant Garde is when black metal or thrash metal fuses with alternative influences. I spose you could call it experimental black metal or experimental death metal?.

  • amazing ,thanks for the compilation...

  • i got my first yakuza album a few days ago

  • maudlin of the well and negura bunget are my favorites from this video

  • go see ''unexpect'' you should like it

  • this video is trve! i delve each of bands in this video! i'm italian, i'm sorry for the grammatical mistakes xD

    STAY METAL!

  • The most obvious musical form that gives this away as not being avant-garde is that fact that it is largely based around a straight, 4/4 rhythm along with the fact that all of the instruments sound relatively in tune with eachother.

  • Going to agree with Muloc7253 on this one. Avant-garde is the creation of completely original ideas to pave the way for art in order to keep it moving and progressing (avant-garde coming from the word 'vanguard' meaning the front or leading part of an army). All other music from the avant-garde disregards past musical forms and tries to create new ones. Although this is progressive, it is still based around traditional musical forms from folk, rock, metal, jazz etc.

  • whats throat singing?

  • What's the name of that Negura Bunget song?

  • Cunoasterea Tăcută

  • Hardly any of these are avant garde at all. Avant Garde means to approach music with a COMPLETELY original direction, throwing out the rulebook altogether. Most of these bands are just progressive, or even just overly-melodic. Struggling hearing much avant garde in their sound.

  • Yeah I agree none of these bands are really "avant-garde"

  • @Muloc7253 Ya I completely agree. The term Avant garde is becoming more and more over used. Mirrorthrone avant garde?...definitely not.

  • thx so much for making this video!!

It has helped me find so many new awesome bands! :D

  • sleepytime gorrilla museum wasnt in there? wtf is this haha

  • @mattyphurley Sleepytime's in the fourth video

  • @S0unDOfCha0S then your the fucking man haha i saw them with dub trio pretty sick
