I wonder where they got their polls from. We had them come and talk here at my base in Germany, and 90% were easily against it. And as for the threat of violence against them, yes it is very real, he can't pretend it won't happen. A gay service member here was nearly beaten to death. I was the medic who got to the scene first, and it was bad. I don't support gay marriage, but I knew this guy and he was one of the kindest and most respectful people I knew here.
@Ragfish - Why do all straight people assume that gay people consider them as sexual objects? Believe me, a penis is required for me to consider someone a sexual object, but it doesn't begin and end with that particular appendage. I prefer other GAY MEN. I'm not saying that some gay men aren't attracted to straight gays but, for the most part, most straight men I know are SLOBS and I'd rather sleep with a woman than a disgusting straight man. Meaning it wouldn't HAPPEN!
I really think the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan would be a more appropriate guest on CNN. When will CNN stop inviting members of hate groups on to provide false "balance?"
The Family Research Council is a known hate group. What other hate groups would be invited to talk on other groups rights on CNN, on such a regular basis? Are extremist groups the only people opposing the repeal of DADT?
The Southern Poverty Law Center has designated the "Family Research Council" a hate group for good reason. These interviews and debates are the equivalent of treating the Ku Klux Klan as a respectable source of information regarding racial equality.
@BloodOfTheLamb1 The SPLC is itself lawless. God has ordained life, marriage and the family. Our family law and our system of government is Biblically based. The secular world view is out of line with our national foundations. The Bible is an anvil upon which every hammer has been broken. Woe unto those who call good evil and evil good. SPLC is a law unto itself. It is unaccountable to any but its own amoral compass. Is everyman permitted to do what is right in his own eyes?
@Ragfish blah blah blah. please quit trying to justify your bigotry by using a text written by goatherders. I can use the same text to justify subjugating black people, women, and even you, frankly. What's the adage? Blessed are the peacemakers? Yeah, that. Try that one. Try being a child of God. That thing you purportedly believe in, though your words belie your true nature.
@SeparateisntEqual Would you want your son showering with men who view him as a sexual object? Discipline is the opposite of freedom from moral restraint. If your quarrel is with Scripture, take that up with the author. Meanwhile, stick with the nuts and bolts of the impact of a cruel policy upon retention and recruitment in our combat forces.
@Ragfish you do realize that there were already gay people in the military, right? And there are very few times that there are open-bay showers. IF YOU WERE IN THE MILITARY YOU WOULD KNOW THAT, BUT YOU'RE NOT. So shut up already. As for scripture...those goatherders are long dead. You're bs arguments about some mass exodus from the military is garbage. Just look at every other military in civilized countries who have had this policy in place for years. Oh, but America is somehow "special". lol.
@SeparateisntEqual You are correct in that most support functions in the military can readily accomodate persons afflicted with same sex attraction; however, among combat arms, open same sex eros is unacceptable. Frankly, if you think that the 3% of self identified homosexual Americans are going to displace the moral volunteers who know right from wrong you are mistaken. What is the basis of your truth statements? You are sacrificing the common good for driving your gay group's benefit.
@Ragfish Afflicted? Unacceptable? Immoral? On what basis, aside from a book written thousands of years ago by who-knows-who which lists dozens of things people we do every day as equally sinful, do you deem gays as such? You know nothing of our moral character. You see only as far as our orientation, which, by the way, we are born with. Naturally.
You're doing nothing but making Christians look worse than they already do. Good job on that. Too bad for you, DADT is GONE. And it ain't coming back
@HenhousetheRed What is the basis of your truth statements? There is no evidence for a gay gene; Perhaps the inclination toward same sex attraction may be predisposed via prenatal exposure to weak androgens. The issue is one of chosen ungodly behavior and identity. Not every inclination is worthy of action let alone self identity. The book you dismiss is the basis of our Constitution and civil laws. John Locke, Simon Greenleaf for starts.
@Ragfish - Every major medical organization in the nation concludes that sexual orientation is NOT a choice. You have no EVIDENCE at all to the contrary.
The bible has nothing to do with our secular Constitution.
The American Psychiatric Association, The American Psychological Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics all disagree with you. The U.S. Constitution disagrees with you.
You are an immoral LIAR and HOMOPHOBE. Please get a life and keep your evil to yourself.
@HenhousetheRed God sent Jesus to reconcile men with Himself. However, Jesus said that he did not bring peace among mankind, but a sword in our midst over His proclamation of the Kingdom. (Matthew 10:34-36). A nation is condemned by its departure from the laws of nature and nature's God. When our laws disregard our founding moral law and call what was evil good, we are collectively in trouble. Kirk and Madsen have handed you the tool to drill a hole in our ship of state.
@Ragfish That's nice. But adults don't believe in Santa Clause. Your religion is not the only one in existence and thankfully your ''laws' don't apply to our government. Freedom of religion.
Keep your bigotry... whoops, I mean Christian values... to yourself.
If servicemembers choose to quit because they cannot continue to be superior to equivalent-rank gay servicemembers, they should be regarded as immoral cowards and shameful traitors.
@Ragfish being gay isn't an affliction. same sex eros? your arguments are laughable. your constant obsession with gay sex says more about you than about my gay brothers and sisters in the military. The basis of my truth statements? try science. but you're too busy praying to your invisible sky friend to do that.
@Ragfish - You have NO "truth statements." Everything you state is false and a lie designed to twist the truth and pervert the facts to suit your radical, religious agenda of hatred, discrimination, bigotry, and ultimately violence.
You true aim is to silence or eliminate anyone who disagrees with you or your radical beliefs. Of course you want the military to enforce discrimination; the military is an organization that bestows honor and you can’t oppress or tyrannize honorable people.
@Ragfish (1) If he's in the military, and using a gang shower, then he's already showering with men who view him as a sexual object. Get over it. They also view him as part of the same military, and that's more important. (2) Gang showers are actually not the norm in the military. In fact, showering at all is not as common as it is in civilian life.
Believe it or not, gay men and women do not universally regard members of the same sex as "sexual objects;" speaking as one myself, I can tell you that most people are people to me, and (unlike you, considering the attitudes and prejudices you display in your comments), I am capable of dealing with them under a status of empathy and mutual respect.
I wonder if any of those commenting here have actually served in a combat capacity in our armed forces. If our soldiers are forced to shower with homosexual soldiers, one can only imagine the concerns that parents would have in sending their young men to defend their country. How many parents would want their daughters forced to shower with heterosexual men? Sexuality and combat are simply incompatible.
@SeparateisntEqual Yes and there were rules that should have busted Major Hassan; however, reporting his irregular pro-Islamist speech would have proven career ending to his superiors. The same inappropriate shield of tolerance would now be covering self proclaimed homosexuals. By the way, being a child of God is not something that we try to do. Children of God are adopted by God's grace not through our merit. The Bible is a sharp sword, requiring greater familiarity than you exhibit.
@Ragfish love how you try to change the subject when confronted with your lies about DADT and showering. Typical strawman arguments. It's just pickies and choosies, eh? Please, do go on with your laughable replies. I love it when one of you fools gets going.
@SeparateisntEqual While individuals are judged by God in the distant future, nations are judged in real time. One of the OT and NT criteria for judgment coming upon a nation is when its laws go against the laws of nature and nature's God. Europe is under the judgment of demographic winter.
@Ragfish once again: using a text written by goatherders over 2K years ago really doesn't improve your arguments. Pick and choose all you want: your 'sacred text' is useful to sustain ALL kinds of bigotry. There's no reasoning with crazy people. you can rant at the air now all you want. you bore me with your strawman arguments and lies and bronze-age belief system.
The Christian KKK are finally losing their battles of divisionism & hate. They call hatred love-attempting "like all religions" to mold God into their own evil image.
God wasn't a man-or associated with any Bible or Quran. God isn't a Dooms Day Cult-or how much money ones ministry raises through fear. One day-like Olympia-children everywhere will consider such beliefs-a mythological lie. I believe in God. He is my breath & heart. The Lord created Gay people in a special way, and I am thankful.
When you people come out bashing and criticizing Christians and people who don't support the gay agenda with the hateful names, derogatory slander and insults you are hurting your own cause. You need to learn to respect those you have disagreements with and realize they are entitled to their opinion just as much as you are. Without civil and repectful dialogue and discourse there can only be hatred, animosity and disrespect....think about that before you slander so many people.
@rationalnow oh, i see, so the "christians" who've been spreading ignorance, intolerance, bigotry & hate throughout history should get a pass & not held responsible for that hate. they should be left alone to continue unabated and never held responsible. is that it?
and tell me where has there been any civil and respectful dialogue on the side of these "christians" toward the gay community. and who's really been slandered through history, gays or "christians". sir you are a complete ass!
@rationalnow I criticize the Devil wherever I find him. Religionism threatens world peace & futures child. Be sure that I'm against it-and will be vocal about it. 1st Samuel 15/3 says>kill children & old people, if that's not crazy-what is? What about Jonestown/Koresh? The Crusades & Inquisition? Children are molested mentally, often physically & spiritually in such places. I've read the Bible "not just what I'm told to". Aside from this-their deeds & actions demonstrate an evil toward humanity.
I'm more than aware of the fact that there are some terrible events and evil people linked to Christianity both in the past and currently but that doesn't mean that all Christians should be linked to those people or events. There are bad people and a bad past linked to virtually every organization or cause. That doesn't mean you throw away every person and group associated with Christianity because of the few bad ones. You need to be more open-minded and tolerant towards Christianity.
@rationalnow You speak of love & tolerance-but sadly talk is as far as it gets. Gay people never did anything to Christians, or anyone else-we are a peaceful people. African Americans, Hispanics and the Native Americans never attacked Christianity-it's the other way around. And now Africa has been poisoned in a sense-like everywhere else religionism has taken root. I cannot be open minded to something so vicious. But everyone counts-none should be thrown away. People are Gay, religion a choice.
I actually agree with you. I'm uncomfortable with some of the Church's teachings towards homosexuals. I can understand why you and many other gay people feel ostracized from Christians because of their intolerant views towards gays. I'm just saying that not all Christians or Christian organizations are that way. I have had similar discussions with gays and I can sympathize with many of your views and feelings towards Christianity. I didn't mean to seem judgmental of your beliefs.
@rationalnow Also, When you come out bashing Gay citizens & persons not indoctrinated into your cult-you're hurting "your own" cause. You need to learn-ALL person(s) are created EQUAL. And without LOVE you can just talk all day and accomplish nothing but pain & destruction. "You"-should think about the harm these beliefs have inflicted upon humanity-it destroyed the empire, threatening the whole of civilization. And not merely Christianity alone. "Religionism" (in my opinion) is evil.
I haven't, "come out bashing Gay citizens & persons not indoctrinated into my cult...." as you put it, I never said anything even remotely negative or derogatory towards gays. What are you talking about? I was merely telling you that you should be a little more open-minded towards Christians and Christianity and not just blindly believe we're all dispictable, hateful and destructive because it's not true. I actually support gay rights so you misunderstood me completely.
molestation is molestation whether gay or straight. even without dadt molestation/sexual harassment would still be seen as wrong which peter sprigg doesn't seem to realize. if sexual harassment of a female soldier by a male soldier occurs, does that mean we should bar women from being in the military?
do these "christians" ever give up on their lies and bullshit? do these "christians" ever give up on their hate? do these "christians" ever tell the truth?
@wntoply6 "do these "christians" ever give up on their lies and bullshit?" No, because that means pastors would be out of a job. :) And, they wouldn't have the perfect opportunity to rape children and be excused for it.
Why the fuck does the media, even the supposedly left wing media, always invite these bigots to act as a legit source of opinion?! It's idiotic and one of the reasons why this issue has been dragged on for so damn long. Leave the bigots where they stand, with the CBN.
@snipzor Let them make asses of themselves. I totally know what you mean but I think it's a good thing they try to keep it diverse so that both sides are shown to the public. The ridiculous sides should be shown to show how ridiculous they are.
@XforeverlongingX But again, that never happens, if they want to shit on them the best thing to do is to shit on them without their permission. Or to shit on them but never invite them to anything.
@snipzor No, I think it most certainly does happen. Opinion polls are affected by having both sides represented. The people have to make up their mind about things and it is very important not to only show one side of an argument. Extremely important. It's about education. The people have to make up their mind on their own account by personally criticizing the representative they disagree with. When people reach their own conclusion it's more powerful than the affect of propaganda. My opinion
@snipzor And let's please not forget how many of these idiotic christians there are in this country. We need to educate ourselves BEYOND these folks by representing them accurately because christianity is so evil in essence that it shows without anyone shitting on anyone. It's in the terminal decline because of its own ridiculous beliefs.
@snipzor Also, let me give a few examples. Look at Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Ted Haggard, Eddie long. If these folks had not been given the media's attention I think people would still have a lot of so called "faith" in christianity. Falwell said that we sort of earned the attacks on 9/11 because of gays, feminists, etc. Pat Robertson agreed, Ted Haggard showed the hypocrisy in christianity's hate of gays vs. his own secret orientation. Atheism is the fastest growing minority in the U.S.
