1989 NFC Championship Game: S.F. 49ers 30, L.A. Rams 3

If the Rams don't loose 4 in a row during the middle of the 1989 season (OT blocked Punt return for a TD at Vikings and the MNF game at Buffalo) and the classic MNF game at Anahiem vs the 49ers, this game would hve been played in LA, not San Francisco. That MNF game in Anahiem, classic with Montan hooking up for 2 90+ TD passes to Taylor, and comming back twice from being down by 17 points. The Rams were the only team in the NFL in 1989 who could have beaten that great team.

That Niner team perservered time and time again. 89 Earthquake, rookie coach, but lot's of Veterans who knew what it took to win the Super Bowl. One of the best football teams that put it all together.

89 49ers had the most dominant postseason in history yea they are the most over rated kick the crap out of the vikings who set the record for sacks in a season with 71 beat down the rams and then put up 55 on the number 1 defense in the league that year. yea they scored their opposition by 100 points that post season yea they were over rated!!!!!

@49er449er The 1985 Chicago Bears had the most dominate post-season because they payoff 2 tough teams in the Giants & Rams;both had tremendous defenses and the Rams wer undeafeated thru mid-season & the Giants destroyed Montana & the 49ers the previous week.Oh yeah:the Bears shut them BOTH out.That's right;no points at all.In SBXX,the Pats had NEGATIVE yard at halftime(-19).That's right,minus yards.They only moved the ball after backups were in & score was 44-3.

@ironworkerjeff3 without doing any homework the niners crushed the vikings who 2nd all time with 71 sacks that season, buried the the rams who beat the giants the week before at the meadowlands, the team u said destroyed my team, the reason they lost to the giants was to keep the giants out of the playoffs, and then they played the broncos in the super bowl and put up the most points in a super bowl and only allowing 10 points, and they put up 55 on the nfl's #1 defense that year!!!!

89 Niners = most overrated team in NFL history. Many favored the Rams to win this game.

49ers trailed in 9 of their 16 regular season game, plus 2 of the 3 playoff games. Scored an all-time record # of points in the 4th quarter (because they were constantly coming from behind). Still only totaled 442 points, which is a very low figure to lead the NFL with. Had a mediocre running game (Craig barely over 1,000 on 3.9 YPC). Passing game nothing but dink and dunk. Poor o-line. Patchwork Defense.

@Ricearoni80 Only 3 guys voted to Pro Bowl - Montana, Rice, and Lott. Montana and Lott beat up all year. Taylor, Craig, and McIntyre only made it as injury replacements. Taylor got 286 of his yards in one game, off 2 90+ yard TDs, which basically made his whole career. Rams nearly went 2-0 against them in regular season. Even with 1-15 Cowboys heading into 4th quarter. 84 49ers better. 94 49ers way better. This was not a Top 10 all-time team. Probably not even Top 20.

Daryl Pollard a liability at corner. Jeff Fuller career-ending injury in week 6. Matt Millen, washed up former Raiders LB, starting ILB for this team. Brent Jones a terrible blocker and only decent receiving #s in first year as starter (400-500-4). Offense had just one real weapon - Rice. No #3 receiver. Nobody behind Craig.

if the niners would have ran the ball against the giants in the 90 title game they would have won,the giants did all they could to give the game away by kicking field goals,and the same way the niners beat the rams in 89 by grinding it out,they didnt do in 90.

I was drawn to football in '85 because of the Bears, and I've been rootin' for them ever since (my user id is from the nickname of a '90s Bears player).

The '85 Bears wouldn't get pushed around by these "victorious" weenies (after all, SF was a finesse team). The '89 Rams offense had fancier stats, but the '85 Bears offense had more guts and poise.
