As Section Leader of the Southview Drumline, I do tend to agree with the below comments that drum battles can include both a batterie and a pit. The Maumee Drumline, however, plays with a competition marching band. The Southview Drumline, which you are right, has NO resume, will just be forming a winter line this year and has never participated in any competitions. The two Drumline's were not on the same skill level, and I think that each had their own strengths and weaknesses.
Once again, 17drumBoy, you show your ignorance. A drumLINE is the entire drumline section, both batterie (check your spelling) and front ensemble/mallets/pit/whatever your group calls them. I would say that if you were having a drum off/battle/war that they were more then in their rights to include their FULL ensemble. I did my research, the Maumee drumline has quite the history and I couldn't really find anything about Southview. Maumee's resume alone puts a beat down on the Cougar Drumline.
I'm with the last comment. If you actually knew anything, you'd realize that all those other instruments belong in the percussion family. Get your facts right before you open your mouth, otherwise you sound totally ignorant. Pounding the crap out of drums is not impressive, I can teach my dog to do that...
I'd like to point out, that most instruments that don't require air or are struck with mallets/sticks, ARE, in fact, considered percussion section instruments. So its not considered cheating if we have a bass guitarist.
Southview... ignorant. Pit is part of the percussion.
And we have a guitar because we rock of coarse!
