hi thanks for sharing yr vid. i also donate but maybe changing to plasma donations as i have low blood pressure low iron properties and always feel lite headed after donating with huge headache for the rest of the day. have donated several times and the goodys they give u after is much appreciated.
Good on you for donating, even though you have suffered from it. Donating plasma will be much appreciated and because I understand plasma is used in an extensive number of ways.
I do not donate for the goodies, I consider them to be more about contributing to donors recovery before they go about their day.
Hey Pete , well done buddy blood doners are needed , unfortunately with my illnesses and the fact im classed as a difficult bleed due to collapsable veins i am unable to :(
They've sucked more than my own bodyweight out of me over the years.
When I was in Oz I remember they at least gave us some food, drink, snacks, etc afterwards. As a shoestring backpacker, it was a way to get some free grub.
Unfortunately, blood donation has given rise to a bit of an "industry" over here in South Africa. The hospitals charge hundreds of rands for a single pint, for a commodity the donors give for free.
Difficult to work out where all the money goes....
Yes, you the Red Cross give you food and drink and snacks after donating. They are interested in making sure you are recovered before you go on with your day and that you come back.
It is disappointing that hospitals are charging for blood so I commend you for continuing to donate.
It's hard to believe I know, but in Britain, men in same-sex relationship are still rejected as donors on the basis that they are likely to carry HIV — and possibly other diseases too. Incredible isn't it.
Great to see you here. :-) I have not been around for a while.
It occurs to me that Australian donation centres also discriminate on this basis, because they ask, prior to accepting you as a donor, along with other questions about so-called risky behaviours, if you have engaged in male to male sex.
I am ashamed to admit that I had failed to realise that this includes men in same-sex relationships who are perfectly healthy.
Thank you for your comment and for opening my eyes.
Do I remember that the Mormons did not believe in donating blood. Is one of the reasons, even minor, you donate because of a rebellion against them? LOL!
Haha, nah, I've always donated blood since I was 14 :)
I think only a small portion of mormons have translated a passage in the Book of Mormon to prohibit them from blood transfusions. Personally, I think it's for selfish reasons. A kind of a loophole, if you will. Most don't follow that translation though, thank goodness. My parents and younger sister are donors too :)
Such an important and fantastic issue. Great work Pete.

Hi Terri,
You are an example of why there is a constant need for new donors, previous donors who can no longer donate, through no fault of their own.
Thanks for your comment.

Hi Graham,
As I was talking about, there is a constant need for new donors to replace those who no longer can. Good on you for donating when you could.
Thanks for your comment.

I'm a regular donor! You're right, the feeling you get from the donation far outweighs any of those squeamish feelings!
