After the South African 295 crash the FAA came up with new standards for the use of combi aircraft. The new standards resulted in an increase of weight which made the 747 combi (classics) non-viable.

I guess the 747-400 is still viable as a combi, otherwise Asiana wouldn't be using them :P

The Combi is the 747-400M not C.

The C is however used to describe a 737-200 Combie.

I think M was used so as not to confuse it with a 747_XBCF (Boeing Converted Freighter) or a passenger aircraft converted to a freighter.

I don't think that could have been a new 747-400 combi; It might have been repainted its livery and its wingtips to its new livery. To complement that, Asiana had to refit all classes in this aircraft, as of December, 2007. So I think it's rare to see an Asiana 747 with PTVs...but eventually, there will be more coming!
