Here in S.California we call them June Bugs.

It's called a fig beetle. We Have lots of them in southern California. They eat ripe figs, the larvae live and pupate in compost. If i'm not mistaken, it's also the largest scarab beetle in North America.

Ive always called them June Bugs ... very common here in Tennessee. We used to tie a piece of thread around them and let them fly around like kites. then let them go. they are harmless.

Potatoe beetle tehyre kinda common.. in humid areas.. theyll get about that big.. maybe bigger. theyre usually eaten by large animals first tho.. more common in farm areas. Japanese beetles get bigger and much stronger than that one tho..

@icyblade4452 Japanese beetles are a type of scarab beetle. Ajune beetle is what this is. It looks like a giant version of Japanese beetles. I see them all the time...these beetles. They are a beautiful jade green color and I like insects and spiders and such...I'm going into entomology and biology in college. Im a junior in high school now.

In my country theres these beetles that look like this one, except they have a shining dark green color. And theyre dumb as shit. They make this huge noise when they fly, "FRHRWFRHFWFRH" like small helicopter or something. The funny thing is, they do these some sorts of Kamikaze attacks. If you see one flying in the yard and you got your houses front door open, the bug will fly inside straight on the floor and die right there. I dont fucking get it whats the point of that but it sure is funny.

We have these exact same beetles where I live, not too far from you (I'm in North Orange County). We get tons of them buzzing around in our back yard every summer. I don't know exactly what kind of beetle it is, but it is just a big beetle. I love them though, because when they're flying they're so loud and they look so big, and I especially love the bright metallic green reflective underside. (Much more reflective than the top side.) Next year if you get more, pick one up -- they're strong!!
