from the live album " I Am A Wild Party " . It's Peter Fredette

replacing Geddy lee and this is the best version of this song !!

  • HA 110 LOL

  • I read earlier in the comments that this was produced by Terry Brown? Because it sure sounds like it!! The first time I heard this song, I immediately thought, "This is Permanent Waves-era...the guitar/bass tones, Geddy's voice, the way Neil's drums are tuned and mixed are total "Permanent Waves"...INCREDIBLE! Also people are pointing out the Ged's Ric tone and the Peart fill, etc. But what actually first struck me about the song as a whole was Alex's rhythm guitar tone...that ballsy chunk!

  • Awesome...I was at the concert in Marquette, Michigan...playbill at the end of the song...Turned me on to Max Webster....Got a Hangover?

  • 2:30 that is classic, unmistakable Neil...awesome

  • Love the Pic of Neil @ 2:24Rick,

  • Call LOCAL ROCK RADIO STATIONS AND REQUEST "Caravan"!

  • Wow ZERO dislikes. This is too epic for disliking

  • Max Webster and I spent many good times in Wasaga Beach, Ontario.

  • Is this a Bass line or what?

  • It doesn't get good until Geddy Neil and Alex are kickin' and the key changes. This makes me really miss Geddy's falsetto singing.

  • @ellaswing That's not falsetto that's his real voice man! Well was untill is dropped, hes still great!

  • Used tp love this one when it would come on FM104. They don't make collaborations like this anymore!

  • havent heard it in a while thanks

  • You're welcome.

  • This is a very cool song, I remember hearing this a lot on the radio when it first came out, Geddy sounds cool and Neils drums are awesome as ever.

  • "BattleScar"! makes me think of Spartacus!!

  • does anyone know the guitar tabs for this?

  • what album is this song from!?!?!?!?!?

  • This was from the 1980 Max Webster album "Universal Juveniles". It was their 5th and last album.

  • God I love this song. Takes me back to a time of bootleg ludes and gold bud.....man those where some good times.

  • sorry i love rush but this is by far my least favorite song...just throwing that out there it just sounds terrible when someones singing with geddy

  • I all but forgot about this till i typed in max webster i remeber when this tune was in heavy rotation on local detroit radio (wabx) man how i miss those days!

  • I had ALL of Max's stuff, and Kims solo tunes

I got a kick out of that one also!

Kim said that they were not trying to make statements in the old Max hits...just sang what came out sounding cool...

"We're on the train to Bangkok

    Aboard the Thailand Express

We'll hit the stops along the way

We only stop for the best"

    Max had the best shit.

  • @DontTazerMeBro LMAO! nice, and its true they did smoke back then too.

they were having a good ol' time hahah

  • @DontTazerMeBro Kim must have had more than good weed. He looks like an idiot in that jumpsuit...was he ever a member of the village people? I love this song...always have...but seeing this album cover is a complete turn-off...no wonder they never made it big.

  • 100 Stars Bro The Baddest Max Song Ever

  • Thanks.

  • do you feel the way i feel

  • so there were two bassists on this version??

  • There were two of everything on this version(except the keys)all at the same time! Two Bass Guitars, Two Drummers, Two Singers, Two Guitar players. Pretty cool huh?!

  • ricky: Yeah, but you could sure as hell tell when it was Neil Peart playing the drums. Thank you for the post...good memories for me.

  • You're welcome and yeah It's not hard to pick out Neil Peart! He's one of my favorites!

  • OOHHH just lisen to that Rickenbacker!!

it sounds amazing!!! along with Geddy voice!!! 8DD Beauty!!

  • Great montage once again! This song is just amazing ! These 2 voices are powerful !

  • Thanks Chucky!

  • Man I love Canadian Rock!

  • what an awesome mix...webster and Rush !!! they should have done more shit together

  • I played this so much when I was a college radio jock!

  • almost sounds like geddys playing a wal, i guess its just me

  • @moses132049

Definitely the RIC, listen to that growl. It's unmistakable.

  • @burningxdimx just the little thing in the intro

  • @moses132049

I know what you mean, but since I own a Ric i can really hear those "Ric nuances"

But really, 90% of his tone comes from his fingers, beating the shit out of the strings

  • this kicks butt BigTime!!Goosebumps all over..still after all these yearsBust the busters / screw the feeders / make the healers / feel the way i feel

  • Great song. It's been so long since I've heard it. Is it a Max Webster tune Rush sat in on, or is it the brainchild of both bands? I've always wondered who wrote it.

Haha. You can tell which drummer/bass/guitarist is which, man. And "The Wall of Drums" sound certainly earned it's name. I would have loved to stand right there in the middle of it all.

And I truly believe that Geddys voice never sounded better than this.

Yes. I said it. NEVER BETTER!

    Thanks for the post.

  • You're welcome Anubis and please promise me that you wont hurt Jack O'Neill! Your question was such a good one that I updated the info box! The song was written by Kim Mitchell(Max Webster) and Pye Dubois who co-wrote a handful of Rush tunes including "Tom Sawyer". So technically it is a MW song that Rush sat in on!

  • AHHH...and yet, let us not forget, also produced by non other than Terry Brown(Broon). Giving it that all so familiar 'RUSH' feel!

So many people don't realize how close these guys were, especially on tour. I mean, Neil would literally sit behind McCracken's kit while Max was opening and play the last few songs from Webster (which he would later do with Primus)just to warm up! Awesome stuff!

    P.S. - 1:35 - :37 CLASSIC GEDDY!! \m/ \m/

  • yeah McCracken teaches me bass guitar and like he tells me all the stories about them its sweet

  • it sounds like they got 2 bass players on this one...and two guitars (kim and alex) and im 100% sure that the fill on 2:31 is a Neil Peart fill.

  • All the members of both of the bands are playing on this song at the same time and they recorded the song together with no overdubs!

  • The first time I saw Rush, Max Webster was the opening act. For this song, Geddy Lee came out wearing a Richard Nixon mask. It was a great performance, and still rocks after 25 plus years. Thanks for posting it. If there is a live video, I would love to see it.

  • You're welcome Neil. Why are you're playlists marked private on your channel?....Rick

  • Rick,

I didn't know that they are. That is not what I want them to be. When I went to my channel page, I did not see where to change the privacy setting. Do you know how I can change that? Thanks.

    Neil

  • i`ve got vinyl... overlooked gem

  • Great post! I first heard this song on a live recording while visiting Toronto in 1986. When I got back to the states I searched for it just like a crazed 16 year old rock fiend would, I think I found the album version about 8 years later. I allways remembered the live version smoked, but only hearing it once 23 years ago was that Getty on vocals in the live version?

  • Thanks Shane! I wonder if a copy of that live recording is available out there on the web?

  • What a terrific find! It's meaning has too often been watered down, but this is what true and pure rock and roll exactly sounds like. This rarity should be perpetually playing in the foyer of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until the cows come home. and More Cowbell!

  • AWESOME! The moment I found out that these two did a song together I knew just HAD to find it!

  • thank you! so very much rickyon! i just heard this song at work today. i had completly forgot about max webster! the shame! thank you for making me remember! wonderfull memories! excellent slide show! peace!

  • You're welcome. I've posted some other Rush stuff and my channel is loaded with great 70's and 80's rock. Enjoy.....Rick

  • thank you sososos much for posting this, more that that stinkbomb dude.. thanks

  • You're also welcome!

  • so you so much for posting this!

  • You're welcome!

  • Great post...Just saw Kim on Canada Day and he did this song - fabulous.

  • kicks ass , first time I heard this , ran out and bought it , still got it ...these song crawls up my spine

  • Very cool song! How intimidating for Max Webster though! Playing with such a powerful band such as Rush.

  • I don't think that they were intimidated. I think I read that they were very good friends and were mutually respectful of each others talents. Also when this song was recorded they all played at the same time in the studio. Both bands!

  • rickyon.....awersome, awesome posting on an incredibly underrated song!!!! Thanks, dude!!!!!!!!!!

  • You're welcome Tony! Check out all the other cool 70's stuff that I've posted........Rick

  • Man, I love this song. How good is Geddy's voice in this - Kim and Geddy play off each other great!

You think the tunes done at about 3:10...and then that YEAHHHHH! scream kicks it right back into overdrive...my favourite part!

  • Incredible song and great photos. Thank you so much for posting.

  • You're welcome Rachel. I noticed that you've posted a few vids from local bands from Maryland which is where I'm from. I know Jeff Adams in passing and a lot of other guys from bands from this area as I was in one myself. My band was Arsen from Southern Maryland. I've got a couple of your vids in my favorites.

  • Arsen.....did you play in Baltimore? I checked out your page and saw a lot of songs that are soon to be in my favorites. I'll go through each one and comment. Regarding Jeff Adams, I don't know if you heard the news, but Carey Kress, Face Dancer's lead singer, passed away on April 15th. He will be deeply missed. More later. Rachel

  • Hey Rachel, I'm really sorry to hear about Carey! My best friend Alan Schwartz was the guitar player for a popular local group named Flight and I was their sound man at the time. He was good friends with Jeff Adams so we saw Facedancer a lot. I later became drummer for Arsen and we played all the same places as Kix, Child's Play, Wrathchild and all the other local bands. We were signed with James-Turner Productions. I'll have to send you a tune or two of ours(with slideshow).

  • You're the first! Welcome friend.

  • what ? no commennts ?
