I read earlier in the comments that this was produced by Terry Brown? Because it sure sounds like it!! The first time I heard this song, I immediately thought, "This is Permanent Waves-era...the guitar/bass tones, Geddy's voice, the way Neil's drums are tuned and mixed are total "Permanent Waves"...INCREDIBLE! Also people are pointing out the Ged's Ric tone and the Peart fill, etc. But what actually first struck me about the song as a whole was Alex's rhythm guitar tone...that ballsy chunk!
@rickyon That would be really cool,... I think That Would be a Great Jam Too, as many Cover songs you and I have, COVERED, we could have a Fn Field Day
I've been jamming with my old buddies from the Top 40/ wedding band. Haven't played with them in 30 years! We're jamming on stuff from the '60s thru the '80s. Having a blast! The ability is almost all the way back after only 3 jams!

@DontTazerMeBro Kim must have had more than good weed. He looks like an idiot in that jumpsuit...was he ever a member of the village people? I love this song...always have...but seeing this album cover is a complete turn-off...no wonder they never made it big.
There were two of everything on this version(except the keys)all at the same time! Two Bass Guitars, Two Drummers, Two Singers, Two Guitar players. Pretty cool huh?!
this kicks butt BigTime!!Goosebumps all over..still after all these yearsBust the busters / screw the feeders / make the healers / feel the way i feel
Great song. It's been so long since I've heard it. Is it a Max Webster tune Rush sat in on, or is it the brainchild of both bands? I've always wondered who wrote it.
Haha. You can tell which drummer/bass/guitarist is which, man. And "The Wall of Drums" sound certainly earned it's name. I would have loved to stand right there in the middle of it all.
And I truly believe that Geddys voice never sounded better than this.
You're welcome Anubis and please promise me that you wont hurt Jack O'Neill! Your question was such a good one that I updated the info box! The song was written by Kim Mitchell(Max Webster) and Pye Dubois who co-wrote a handful of Rush tunes including "Tom Sawyer". So technically it is a MW song that Rush sat in on!
AHHH...and yet, let us not forget, also produced by non other than Terry Brown(Broon). Giving it that all so familiar 'RUSH' feel!
So many people don't realize how close these guys were, especially on tour. I mean, Neil would literally sit behind McCracken's kit while Max was opening and play the last few songs from Webster (which he would later do with Primus)just to warm up! Awesome stuff!
The first time I saw Rush, Max Webster was the opening act. For this song, Geddy Lee came out wearing a Richard Nixon mask. It was a great performance, and still rocks after 25 plus years. Thanks for posting it. If there is a live video, I would love to see it.

Great post! I first heard this song on a live recording while visiting Toronto in 1986. When I got back to the states I searched for it just like a crazed 16 year old rock fiend would, I think I found the album version about 8 years later. I allways remembered the live version smoked, but only hearing it once 23 years ago was that Getty on vocals in the live version?
What a terrific find! It's meaning has too often been watered down, but this is what true and pure rock and roll exactly sounds like. This rarity should be perpetually playing in the foyer of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame until the cows come home. and More Cowbell!
thank you! so very much rickyon! i just heard this song at work today. i had completly forgot about max webster! the shame! thank you for making me remember! wonderfull memories! excellent slide show! peace!
I don't think that they were intimidated. I think I read that they were very good friends and were mutually respectful of each others talents. Also when this song was recorded they all played at the same time in the studio. Both bands!
You're welcome Rachel. I noticed that you've posted a few vids from local bands from Maryland which is where I'm from. I know Jeff Adams in passing and a lot of other guys from bands from this area as I was in one myself. My band was Arsen from Southern Maryland. I've got a couple of your vids in my favorites.
Arsen.....did you play in Baltimore? I checked out your page and saw a lot of songs that are soon to be in my favorites. I'll go through each one and comment. Regarding Jeff Adams, I don't know if you heard the news, but Carey Kress, Face Dancer's lead singer, passed away on April 15th. He will be deeply missed. More later. Rachel
Hey Rachel, I'm really sorry to hear about Carey! My best friend Alan Schwartz was the guitar player for a popular local group named Flight and I was their sound man at the time. He was good friends with Jeff Adams so we saw Facedancer a lot. I later became drummer for Arsen and we played all the same places as Kix, Child's Play, Wrathchild and all the other local bands. We were signed with James-Turner Productions. I'll have to send you a tune or two of ours(with slideshow).
wow the memories this tune invokes!
