Bobby Darin made so many great tracks this must be up with one of his best. I can remember one particular D.J. at the cavern always use to finish with this thanks for posting
The orignial radio version of this song was tons better than this seemingly rushed-through version he put out...it sounds like he can't wait to get away from the mike...his vocal and the song itself is truncated to the point that this video - sorry - wasn't worth listening to. Thanks just the same.
You say Hannah Montana-i fucking punch you in the face

iv been wondering that too angus1878, just one of the d.j.,s top tunes of the time maybe?or a classic even then perhaps, who knows,i wish id been there too at the cavern
Thanks Keca. I'll have to accept that my long-term memory is no better than my short-term then !
Can't recall ever having anything with the Atco label on here in the UK though. Must have been published as Atlantic Records here I guess.
I'll never accept that I bought an old standard like Bill Bailey though back then in my rock and roll youth. I must have got the copy from someone else's collection.
Maybe we're both right., Keca You're obviously in the US. My copy was on the London label in the UK. Wish I had it stiil so I could check it out. But I know I would never have bought Bill Bailey. I liked r & r back then. Thanks for the info though. I'll see if I can track anything down myself. Terry
Yes, it was the flip side of "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey", on Atco Records
6167. My friend who graduated from high school in 1959 has the original single on Atco. I also checked a few of the Bobby Darin discography's on the internet, and they all say that this song was on the flip side in '59-'60. Bill Bailey was the A side and got up to number 19 on the U.S. music charts, while Darin's own composition of I'll Be There" peaked at number 79 on the charts.
I bought this record in 1960 and it was a favourite for a long time. Don't think it was the flip side of Bill Bailey. though, I wouldn't have bought that Pretty sure it was on Splish Splash. Lomng time ago though
@jellybellyterry Fact is, it WAS the B-Side of ''Won't You come Home bill Bailey'. I have the record. The two songs cannot be directly compared because. they're quite fiifferent, of course. But I've always favored this beautiful Darin ballad.
This song was on the "B" side of Bobby's 1960 single "Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey?"...Don't know why it didn't catch on then. I was only 5 at the time. LOL
But, fast forward a few years, and Gerry and the Pacemakers discover the song, and it is a hit, and makes money for Darin, as the songwriter. Nice.
He also wrote his hit songs "Splish Splash" and "Dream Lover", if I'm not mistaken.
Totally under rated, the man was a true genius in a world where someone who wins a crap talent show is called that nowadays.

If you're a Bobby Darin fan, catch the bio film, "Beyond the Sea," staring Kevin Spacey. It does a beautiful job of telling his story.
