Love this song! Sisters really created a style of their own. The only band in the 21 century I can think of that has any kind of resemblance to the post-punk/goth era back then, are Warpaint. Btw, The Mission must be one of the greatest british bands ever! Highly underrated though... Too me they're the best! Cheers!

The original by Hot Chocolate is a good song, definitely, but both versions feel distinctly different. With Hot Chocolate, Errol Brown sounds like he's reliving a long-past memory--the sadness is still there, but the experience happened long ago. With the Sisters of Mercy, Eldritch sounds like he found his dead wife 12 hours ago, and then had to go on stage and do a show. Two very different takes, but both good.

@UltraBVR-Ofcourse it is this is the original version a musical & lyrical collaboration. Hot Chocolate's cover was so fun & different & meant to be but this was the real deal of bond. Some loves never really die they are just painful. You never forget, you want to break free but you run back & it messes everyone up. If only we could embrace & comprend the love & pain of it all. Love can't be devoid of capitvation but sometimes emotions make us feel captive w/out passion. Demons of family adore.

I've always liked the Sisters but until now I have never heard their reading of this song. It's brilliant. Hot Chocolate's original is dark, but this version is so much more appropriate, as the song is about the horror of discovering the suicide of the person you love most. Eldritch's screams at the end are terrifying. Thanks so much for posting this!
