  • I love front-flutes! (and quenachos in particular).

  • Wow. There has to be some connection inside our heads about scales and intervals! You find the pentatonic scale all over the world in relics made by people who knew nothing about one another.

  • A sound that makes you travel in time! Fantastic stuff.

  • I bought one of these from Michael g Allen in 2005-- he's been making these for years.

  • haunting

  • is it not lost on anyone else how closey the anasazi flute resembles the chinese Xiao ..(which most likely gave birth or at least influence to the anasazi flute, Quena flute, Shakuhachi and many others...) of course these are all very similar to the Egyptian Nay flute, which probably outdates them all...

sometimes though...such observations dont win many friends, when would-be friend cannot see past their own cultural heritage....

  • Beautiful sounding flute, I'll be checking this out for sure. Thank you for sharing with us. Mark

  • Nice sounding flute, but what about that notch Erik is blowing on?

This is found on South American Native flutes like the quena.

  • that is very cool

  • or you can sit under an overpass and get some reverb. ;=)

  • Are these at all like a Native American flutes?

  • Well they are a Native American flute, but probably not what you're thinking of. The Anasazi lived in the SW US and this flute has been dated to 620 - 670 AD. It's a 6 hole flute. The notes are (from low to high) Bb, C, C#, D, F, G, A. To play they require an embouchure similar to the Japanese Shakuhachi. I believe Erik makes a version that is like fipple flute so you can just blow into the end of it.

  • wow i never heard anything like thats alsome

  • Anasazi had connections to Greece :)

  • Erik the flute maker is good, i have one of his flute, cool cool

  • that does sound cool

  • Anasazi seems to have a semi oriental thing going.

  • @Dadalama Probably has something to do with most, if not all of their ancestors being from Asia.

  • Pentatonic scale! (5 notes)

Wow. There has to be some connection inside our heads about scales and intervals! You find the pentatonic scale all over the world in relics made by people who knew nothing about one another.

  • Actually the Anasazi is a 6 hole flute. In the video Erik tells the scale. The interesting thing is that the flutes found were scaled alike, unlike early NA flutes that hed the makers scale of notes.

  • WHOA, those are REALLY old instruments...wow, those are extremely nice finds.

  • beautiful sound dude

  • I found out I am Navajo and Anasazi, now I want an Anasazi Flute. :D Did you add any reverb tot he flute playing, or does it naturally sound like that becuase of the acoustics?

  • Wonderful sounds and a nice find. Thanks for sharing Erik!

  • hella good!

  • Very interesting stuff. Also, very beautiful.

  • The song reminds me of traditional Chinese music. Except its much slower, and more relaxed.

  • Hey mustang, if you really want to play a flute (a cheap one) try getting a dizi, a mijwiz, or shakuhachi off of amazon.

  • beutiful instument
