does anybody know that a crew were also killed in a firery death on in think the same or the next stage in a citreon group n lna? no i did,nt think so....
Im am afraid this is exact point in time where a simple crash that happens all the time, stopped the devlopment of so much and we went backwards from then on.
@1864oktobar Indeed, but it was merely a testbed for the Lancia ECV. Which Toivonen tested in Imola just before his crash. Posting a time that would've qualified him 3rd on the F1 race that happened on the same weekend.
Mikola in Jerez at the same loop of the track, like Formula 1, made time with Lancia, that would give him 10th (!!) spot on qualifying sesion during F1 Grand Prix !
Marvdogger, I love everyone of your videos and I don't know how you do it? But they are fantastic and even though I was a kid during the Group B era I love it and I feel you have captured a lot of it for me. I know you have been busy recently, but I can't wait till you finish your film on Toivenen. I also respect Bruno Saby after the Tour de Corse for not taking the champagne at the end when they tried to hand it to him. please, keep up the good work!!
Thanks for posting this Ceasar Fiorio just went up in my, had previously always considered him a bit of a twat but it was very interesting to hear his thoughts in the aftermath of Henri / Sergio`s tragic crash. As we found out later the fuel cell had been leaking badly in their car and probably contributed to him going off track through breathing the fumes from the exotic fuel mix at the time, also this leak also contributed to the car catching fire so easily.
@godtux try typing Toivenen fuel fumes into google and see what comes up, I clearly remembering at the actual time of the accident something about their car smelling very strongly of fuel before that fatal stage, I believe it came from the start marshalls own recollections at the time.
Can you tell me Marvdogger, why there such a difference in the stage milage of the two Rallies, after all they were both being run under World Championship Rules....Great work Marvdogger,James
@Silvermac27 Well rallys changed little in the 60s,70s and 80s. As it was mainley up to the organisers of the rally and FISA more orless agreed with them. The Tour de Corse has always been a long rally and the 1000 lakes has always been a fast short rally.
The problems of course comes, when your rally 400bhp+ cars on stages orignally desisgned for cars with 160-200bhp. The strain on the drivers goes up 10 fold which the organisers did'nt seem to relise till it was too late.
later they develop 700bhp but still F1 didnt have 4X4 system!!!!on gravel Bgroup cars hit 100 in less then 2.5 sec....RS200 had a record with 2.2sec 100kmh....
@Marvdogger That was the whole point of Group B. To push both man and machine to their limit, and then over come it. It was a time when engineers and death defying test pilots called the shots, not some limp wristed suits knee deep in their own bullshit and fat bank accounts. And yes, maybe it went a bit too far, but Group-S was supposed to replace it the next season anyway. The rules WRC is run by today. So because of lack of balls, we 10 years stagnation.
Nice video Marvdogger, Group B were too fast too quick to in a such rally courses, I feel bad for Henri. But finally I realize what was Group B rally, Dangerous but If you luv it, you do what it takes. RIP Henri <3
To give people an idea how tough the 86 Tour de Corse was, the first day of the rally had more stage miles than the total miles of the 86 Thoasand lakes rally!

@metonAlternate you have got your myth totally mixed up.
it is a myth that an s4 was 6 th on 86 estoril f1 grid
seasrch f1 86 qualifying and see what speed a 1400hp f1 goes at,then tell me you think an s4 is as quick
please dont disrespect s4's by believing the estoril myth
