this band has a different sound from most other mid-20s...more subdued, less brassy, minimal use of splash cymbals... though the picture indicates it was not small in number. I'm not sure the band had widespread appeal. I'm kinda surprised that Victor chose them to record a song that was a huge hit for the time.

Art Landry is another of the great bandleaders that I discovered via You Tube. His use of the tuba and some other interesting instrumental effects added to his great sound.

Not really -- it's a typical 1920s foxtrot and very danceable. (Turkey trot was popular way back around 1910-14.)

Fox Trot was in up until the Lindy and Shag of the l930's........the early 20's had the quick step and once step and many other over night short lived fads.

the one-step wasn't exactly short-lived -- it lasted from about 1910 until the early 20s, when it was renamed the Peabody and continued to be popular under that name

This was one of the first "electrical" {Orthophonic} recordings Victor released during 1925- and Landry's first, recorded on November 10th, 1925. There was a transition of sorts as to how most orchestras sounded during this period, '240'....
