Yes, a large number of Locomotives are named, however names were usually only bestowed upon the passenger locomotives, and not workhorse freight locomotives such as this one. This locomotive was named in preservation,after being repatriated from greece. The naming of locomotives has been a tradition in the UK long since locomotives were first built, over 200 years ago.
Just want to say thakyou for the info, I had no idea! My dad was a massive enthusiast but he concentrates on planes and stamps more now... getting old! We went on the Waverley this summer... it has a huge tri-action eangine that you can stand over and watch. I recomend a trip on it if you like steam engineering!
She was named by David Milham the then owner and she ran on his railway at Isfield East Sussex, called the Lavender Line. Sadly David had to sell DVL when things got tough. David died in 2009.
i hope she's next on the overhaul list. She's far better suited to the railway than the 3 (soon to be 4) standard 4 MT locos on the railway.
