The most important thing behind SEO, is exactly that - doing the right thing. And I don't mean finding the magic Google trigger, I mean doing "the right thing" - the right thing as a webmaster, proper design, taking care of your alt and title tags, always having your title in an h1 tag; having few tags, having HTML that validates on the w3c validator

Of course it does. SEO isn't all about content and code (on-page SEO) though. Quality backlinks seem to hold the most weight. And don't get involved in black hat, unless you want to get irreversibly banned from the search engines.

google has said seo should be invisible to the webmaster. they are doing everything they can to get the most relevant and best content to the users of google, and so unless youre running your whole site inside a java applet, you should be fine as long as youre being genuine, like you said. basic seo rules like file names, meta tags and readable url's help a lot, but many of those things are already taken care of by most CMS's.

and yeah like kerns said seo can still be abused and there are different ways to earn easy money with spamming and such so... for the legit users who have something real and interesting to say or provide i think they will get an audience if they are social about it regardless

well I like it so far better than facebook and we all know facebook is better than myspace but, google+ has something that can knock out facebook it will take it time since not a lot people know about google+ yet or started a account yet. and facebook is so well known but google will knock facebook out well in my opinion it already has I was not sure at first about google+ until I looked more into it and started a profile I like google it runs everything I do online even my website.
