Well in the level the orb kills you instantly if you get near it, and the orb is faster than u, so you have to get perfect timing on the corners and if you press any other direction while moving down lets say, you will die
I have a question: what's so hard about the race at level 10? do u have to rapidly tap a button, or change what button u r pressing whenever u change walls?
you have to make sure you start running immediately ( in classic beatem up style) and always know which direction you're gonna have to push on the d-pad before you get to a certain point. you can hardly make a mistake because the rat is much faster than you so you have to be perfect
Yeah, maxing out the score in this game isn't that hard to do actually. As for gaining extra levels, hitting the birds with consistency (keep them in the air until you get a 1up) is an excellent way of doing this.
There are also spots in Level 8 and possibly others, where the enemies respawn and can be killed over and over again for extra points.
oh my god. you make levels 10 and 11 (and the rest of the game for that matter) look like absolute cake. that's insane. i think it wouldn't be too much of an exaggeration to say that each of those levels took me somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 tries each to get through. and that was with emulator save states at the beginning of each level! you are truly an nes god.
Okay, thanks, glad that you think so, buyacanary :).
I wouldn't consider myself to be anywhere close to the best players in this game though. Some have finished it without even dying, now that is truly insane!
I played this game A LOT, and I'm proud to say I have also beaten it. It's one of maybe 15 NES games I had as a kid.
On a few occasions the final rat wouldn't fall or something, and I'd have to restart. One day I was particularly mad about that, and the next time through I found out a (very) hard trick:
Beat the crap out of the rat after you kick one of the bombs. If you destroy the rat, the stage is complete.
Damn these levels are just sick. At first I was confused since alot of the levels looked familiar but I know except for the level I reached from the 3rd level skip, I never managed to get far in this game.
But I know for a fact these last 2 levels you made look so easy would've had me throwing the controller at the TV in a fit of rage from getting killed so many times.
Very impressive! Rat Race is probably my favorite level. I hate it when (1:41) happens though. Nice job by beating the end boss with only 1 square. You made it look easy.
1:41? Do you mean when I got confused of where to go, jdub326? Yeah, that happens at times, since the level is so damn fast :).
Thanks, I was lucky to beat General Slaughter the way I did. He should have nailed Rash with his horns at one point, since I made a mistake, but fortunately didn't end up paying the price for it :).
Yea that's what i was talking about. When you think you've ran out far enough to fall down to the next beam so you change direction, but you end up running backwards because like you said it is so fast.
How the F*** did you beat the Clinger Winger stage? I can do it on the Genesis version, but on NES, I get creamed quickly! Is there some sort of trick to it?
Yeah, the Clinger Winger can be a very frustrating level indeed, DrLove0378!
The trick, I believe, is to make tight turns around the corners, this will help the clinger winger to accelerate and ensure that the electrical orb doesn't make a lot of ground.
Another good trick is to pause the game before a turn, this give your thumbs/fingers more time to anticipate the turn.
Thank you for pointing that out, bmwolgas! I also generally used that pause trick to make Level 11 a lot less intense, but in this case I decided not to and got lucky :).
heh that rat race brings back memories. i remember having to heatbutt them to save me more time. and that one race against the ball, i remember barely making it to the finish. i couldnt beat that last level though. damn those clouds lol
Yeah... I remember the rat race... and I remember the nastiest glitch in a single player game ever on rat 3. The clinger wingers I thought I had to tap the d pad... Boy was I in for quite a few scorchings.
holy shit 999999 points and no continues used not many lives wasted either ur good this game rocks and sucks at the same time with its insane diffculty myself without cheating or warping can get 2 lvl 6 and then i give up cause my nerves are shot with 2 speed rounds
It was hilarious seeing those rats falling upside down on the floor !

OMG I played this on an emulator (you know, with load & save options) and still was completely uncapable of finishing the "Rat race" level.

I always head-butted the rats during the racing portion. It's make them skip over the hole and they'd have to repeat that level.

So that's what the Twelfths Stage looks like. For the longest time I thought it was never actually programmed into the game.

A swirly orb as a boss? Must be Ozma's father or something.

So what's the challenge behind Clinger Winger? Before the boss, it just looks like you're riding along a track.

Playing the way that I did without pressing pause does tend to tense up the thumbs. I was very lucky to hang in there for as long as I did!
DTysonator 3 years ago
But eventhough the final straight was twice as long, the hypno-orb wouldn´t have caught you!
paavot 3 years ago
Well, the orb had caught up in the past, so it was still a pretty tense situation, paavot :).
All that it really takes is a couple of slip ups before the orb starts making some major ground.

Actually, reaching 999999 points isn't as tough as it seems, mortalBLAST. It is easy to rack up points in certain areas.
It is much harder to reach 999999 points in the sequel though, Battletoads Double Dragon The Ultimate Team.
