  • you will see if he speaks clear if u turn on captions,no problem

  • "Anyways" is NOT a word. It is improper grammer used by uneducated people who disrespect the English language. Go back to grade-school and learn correct usage of your native language.

  • @toddyallen33 English is not my native language. Besides, as long as people understand what I say then no harm will be done.

  • @toddyallen33 "grammer" is NOT a word either. Please stop disrespecting the English language. Stay safe.

  • -__- where is the lesson again?

  • Weeell I'm from england and when I goto Canada, they don't understand the slang I use, or my accent.

  • "Wow! I completely understand what that person is talking about!" haha epic.

  • LOL! fail! Click the CC mini-button next to the VideoQuality button and click "Transcribe Audio". He fails completely and half the words are wrong.

  • Thanks :)

  • titties!!!

  • Nice Convair bomber on the wall. Delta wing beauty.

  • Maybe the Brits finally took Henry Higgins seriously, eh?

  • I Cant Find This Digital Recording Studio On Your Website Can You Give Me A Link?

  • dikshit?

  • Dick Shin

  • youu have really helped me! Thanks youu! Now i don't say things like "Liddle" instead of little anymore.

  • They won't be like "What?" they will be like "wow".

  • Thank you very much for explaining this John!

  • ever heard a person speaking cognie(spelling?) almost impossible to understand ^^ but i think a lady of sorry just mentioned that. but i know what you are saying.

  • ...so that each word is CLURLY heard... (1:01)

    FAIL

  • thanks for this.,.. i know i don't speak clear hahaha :p

  • you'r from England AREN'T YOU!?!?

  • this guys a fag....I'm sorry that was mean

  • Just saw your 4th 0f your 3 video's series; You have a 'laidback' easy going approach thats somewhat hindered by the audio/video quality.

  • we are gonna talk about a very important section called dickion

  • Did he say "conscenensces" @ 2:05 ,240. Continensces @ 2:47. Con so nant.

  • lol manchester?yorkshire? for someone from south england its not clear.

  • excuse me i have problems with words with the letter s, i pronounce it as shhh, of course is speak spanish but i was wondering if you could help me improve with specials exercises for my problem. Thank you

  • I have to say the whole 'ENGLISH PEOPLE SPEAK CLEAR' thing isn't right at all. The clear 'cliche' accent is called Recieved Pronounciation (rp/queens english) and only a few of us have it. There are many other accents, like Geordie and scouse which are very unclear to some one who isn't native.

    Sorry- little rant over.

This is a good video beside my rant! xD

  • Thank you for clarifying this!

  • @ALadyOfSorrow

Excuse me? English ppl speak clear? On which planet?!

  • @Cosette0 that's what I said!!

  • i have a veryyy hard time saying murder. I guess its because of the r, but i just cant say that damn wordd ughh TEACH ME PLEASEE

  • just say murda : D

  • an overatriculated consonant is always an accent, using accent with rhetorical reason will result an senseless interpretation. In German it is a new fashion to spy out all consonants you can catch. I only fell confronted with a bitchy personal secretary, controlling, instead of understanding. A t and a s are very strong sounds, you only have to pronounce them and it will be sufficient. A clear vowel is important for understanding, but that's more difficult.

  • Do you have diction exercises for people with uncorrected overbites?

  • You say that about UK english just because you never been to Clapton Park!!!

  • The old BBC English or Radio 4 pronounciation in all it's glory.

I ordered in dunkin donuts and the whole shop went silent!!

Which is quite scary as a tourist.

  • i am a female. I have problems singing low notes and the voice doesn't seem to come out. But when I sing in higher notes, my tone gets clearer and louder compared to the low ones. One of my tutor says that I'm a soprano. However I noticed some sopranos can hit the low notes clearly as well. It seems like my voice is shaking when i sing low. I don't know what's wrong with my voice. Good video there warrior!! XD

  • never heard a scootish speak before.......................ok im lying on movies, but thats about it

  • In conversational speech it does merit adjustment to, but in lyrics?

Consonants aren't pronounced at the end with good reason. The point of a song is to be vocally/musically aesthetic, not provide a means of getting a message across. Stressing the consonants in a song can distort a vital syllable in a verse, and that's key for poetry, music and oftentimes rhythmic prose.

If you've ever listened to music, you'll see that dropping consonants often happens on purpose (esp. in high notes).

  • Lol not all English ppl have clear diction only the posh accent

  • You are very right. Sorry for not being clear about that.

  • im scottish and my accent is very hard to understand but when i speek clearer and slower every 1 can understand me no problem i actually belive the scottish accent spoken clearly and properly is the easyest in the word to understand is this just me or has no1 actually herd a scot talking properly?

  • @bluedooke

That's not true either. Accent and diction are completely unrelated.

  • oooo thanks lol I just noticed that this is actually very important to singing :D

  • Very instructive and helpful.Thanks .

  • oh this is my problem cause im caribbean and i have a heavy accent comes out in my talking and singing so im going to pay attention to this lesson

  • thats a bonus to singing

  • Glad to hear that you are on the right path!

  • Wow! :O Awsome, thanks! A lot of older people, like... my teachers some time have trouble hearing when i'm speaking on english cause iv'e got this american slang-words in most of my sentences, but now, i'll try to speak clearer.

  • You are welcome.

  • I always see the performers in our school musicals warming up with the alphabet and silly tongue twisters and wondered why they were doing it. If Kurt Cobain had practiced more of his "pleasant mother pheasant plucker" exercises we might actually understand his songs. But I guess Nirvana wasn't exactly striving to sound British.

Anyways, thanks for the informative video!

  • wow this really helped me tnx =)

  • Glad to hear it!

  • Amazing, the first person that I've come across (so far) actually talking about diction in a vocal training course! Thank you for mentioning it. Personally, I believe that proper diction should be a base before you get to (or in addition to) areas such as breathing exercises, riffs runs etc. This is just my opinion:)

  • You are right!

  • Thanks for the nod to the English. Good diction is something I pride myself on.

  • My pleasure. I am half Welsh and half German. What a combo!

    Jonathan

  • Half welsh too :) all the best people eh? :D

  • This is great advice! Have you all ever checked out Brett Manning's Singing Success? He has put together a great program as well!

  • Brett is a great trainer. I am pleased to be compared to him.

    Best,

    Jonathan

  • Consonants.

  • Consonance recurrence or repetition of consonants especially at the end of stressed syllables without the similar correspondence of vowels. From Merriam Webster

  • I would like to have a voice like Pavarotti (RIP).

  • What is stopping you?

    Jonathan

  • haha, some of us do; not all!

  • Why Is My Voice Like..Tight At Times ???Making Me Hard To Sing Properly..

  • You probably lack proper breath support. Get my book!

    Jonathan

  • Do you feel you are tense and nervous when you sing?

  • Thank you thank you thank you!

  • You are very welcome!

    Jonathan

    Jonathan

  • yeah "consonants"......

anyway very good video 5 stars

  • No, he's means consonance, as in consonance and dissonance. Not consonants.

  • sorry kadence0........listen to his talk.....a "d" and "t" are surly consonants and not "consonances"......LOL

anyway still a good video.....you are really funny kadence0

  • Uh...I already made clear he meant consonances. It means stable sounds. It's a vocal and musical term, and given that he's talking about diction here, it's obvious he meant what he said.

You're already on the internet, just google it if you want to know what he's talking about.

  • Thanks for the support. You are correct.

    Spooky.

  • thanks for the video, but you obviously havn't been to south yorkshire because we speak with no clarity whats so ever

  • thanx teacher..thanx alot

  • another thing though when i go to my sining lessons my singning teatcher always tells me to drop the like the T's and the D's i dont understand why ?

  • im english and its true when i go to america people always say that to me haha

  • Never thought of that method: i'll just pretend im talking to my grandparents whenever im at one of my competitive speech tournaments. Thanks for the help!

  • Now that should work great!Tell me about the results.

    Jonathan

  • you are so good!

  • HOLY WARRIOR!!!

  • when i sing my voice goes sore the next day, can any 1 tell me the problem?

  • I have that problem sometimes, you are most likely not opening up your throat enough and using your windpipe. Keep watching this guys videos, breathing has so much to do with all the ways we use or voice.

  • Cool I suck dick at singing but I also think it's just because of puberty, but when I'm done through puberty, I don't want a low ass voice or a high ass voice. I want to be able to hit high notes well but then hit low notes well too but I want a middle voice. You guys probably dont give a shit but I do. Any way, Can anybody tell me how to hit high notes better?

  • It's really hard at the beginning, especially at your age, for you might change to falsetto more easily by accident. Try doing rising scales up, you should find your headvoice like that

  • your singing with your throat and not with your diaphram. for a beginer to know what there diaphram is, when you yawn and you feel that back part of your throat goes up, thats called your soft pallet. when you sing it should be like that, open left, and you can sing and sing. and your voice wont feel as horse as it does the next day. hope that helps.

  • i have an english accent but i still struggle with my singing diction. i am an opera singer and i find it difficult to round the words off.

  • Thanks for the great program!I hope to see more from you. Cheers!

  • this is a great video, though i don't understand why he keeps saying "consananses" for consonants...
