In the episode where Bart, Millhouse, Nelson, and Martin rent a car and go to the World's Fair. They drive past a sign Lurleen Lumpkin & Pip Diddler Tonight.
Beverly D’Angelo is clearly modeling Tammy Wynette's singing style of the 1960s-70s, hairstyle, and the attitude of many of her songs; namely, try to please your man, there might be an "other woman."

"Lurleen is voiced by American actress and singer Beverly D'Angelo, who reprises her role in the Season 19 episode "Papa Don't Leech." D'Angelo was cast because of her role as country music singer Patsy Cline in the film Coal Miner's Daughter.[5] D'Angelo wrote the songs "Your Wife Don't Understand You" and "Bagged Me a Homer.""
OMG just found out that the person who does the voice and sings is the mom from National Lampoon's vacation! My respect for the lady just went up 100 points.
i love this music is that country?? damn i need to get to know more of these.
besides that: i remember the mr plow episode.theres this song sung through the plow king commercial with "mr plow is a looser and i think he is a boozer" in it.
this is sung the same way like the song sung by this christian rock chic flanders is with in one of the latter episode.
the lyrics are about the bible and god "a book about a man,a dude who lives above and drives a pickup full of sweet sweet love".
@michaelcorleonepate I know people have opinions but I don't get why 95% of the world likes "all music EXCEPT country." No matter how upbeat and happy a song can be. It's not ALL depressing.
@stevarino1989 Most modern country is pure shit. That's not saying there aren't classics that are amazing, just what most people hear when they think country is shit, so they think it's all shit. It's unable to escape being judged by it's modern successor
@Spirosaur yeah I don't really listen to today's--I like the 80s and 90s stuff. It's what I was raised on as a child. And no I'm not a redneck, I live in Western NY.
the lurleen and mindy episodes are two of the most important for homer's character development. they're similar premises but homer experiences them very differently. with lurleen, homer is oblivious right til near the end that she's clearly trying to seduce him. with mindy, there is a dynamic sexual tension immediately, and mindy is not a seductress like lurleen but simply caught in a fierce infautation just like homer. both are written and directed extremely well and both are absolute classics.
@habs4life9 It also showed how different the simpsons was from other animation and shows at the time, specifically in a prime time american show to have a married couple have moments of infatuation shown to them and themselves shown to others. It was different to have a married couple show such rocky patches at the time.
@Gyrth1 It was my dream to find some full songs of these fantastic songs but the only thing i found was that the songs were never made in a longer version. So sad i could cry.
no wait, i'm not gonna cry. but it's still sad though.

Slightly obscure trivia question, but don't they mention in passing a few years later that Lurleen ends up a washed up alcoholic?
Think it might be a few seconds shown on some TV show they're watching...
Any idea?
